Why? You’re getting the best goalscorer. They’re getting the best defensive player albeit he’s getting up there.

Getting a top 10 centre in the league makes us worse in the long run? That’s a rather odd way of looking at it. We really are stuck in a rut. This is what we would need to go from a decade of rebuilding to a really strong team in the east.

Of course Hextall is talking because Vancouver is in cap hell next year and he’s going to wait for the price to come down significantly. That’s the exact opposite of reality. They don’t have to trade anyone.

Vancouver definitely turns that down. I love Lindholm but I’m not giving Cossa up. The LA trade is very interesting. I’d do it but I’m unsure if they would. The last one is a major no from Florida.

Affordable offseason without mortgaging future picks
Tarasenko isn’t leaving the NYC market. And this team is definitely out of the playoffs next year and most likely the following as well. If fans want to continue to rebuild fair enough, but we will be at a decade outside of the postseason. Maybe I’m too scared by the 70s and 80s but I don’t wants decade out of the postseason. We have a lot of futures. I’d much rather part with some of these picks to target needs now.

Almost everyone wants to leave Winnipeg. There’s a reason they never sign big name UFAs. There’s a reason they also are an unstable market.

All I’ve heard is he was at the draft last year and hung around with the Habs. The guy lives there. If the Habs were in contention I’d be sold but they’re just starting a rebuild.

Moves I wouldnt mind seeing
Centres I would go after even I had Stevie’s job (no I’m not saying I’m Yzerman)
1 Elias Pettersson (aim high)
2 Elias Lindholm (much more realistic option to target)
3 Mark Schiefele ( he’s not everyone favourite but the guy can score and at his age right before free agency he wouldn’t be all that expensive an add. Plus we can easily resign him)
4 Thomas Hertl (Not likely but very good centre who could be a stellar 2C to Larkin)
5 Kuznetsov (I go back and forth on him but if the price was right why not? The guy sure can score.)
RyJo would fit into the category of others I’m intrigued by but I wouldn’t part with anything significant for them. This includes him, Ryan Hartman, Adam Henrique, Ryan Strome, Nicolas Roy, and Dylan Strome.

Yes you’re thinking like I am but I’d go after even bigger fish than PLD. I’d trade our 1st and the Isles 1st with Kasper as part of a package to land a 1C. I’m not saying Larkin isn’t a 1C but imagine how much better we’d be of he was our 2C? Target number 1 has to be Elias Pettersson, aim high. I’d trade our pick unless we win the lottery. As good as this draft is, how many players end up better than Elias Pettersson? Bedard almost certainly but I wouldn’t even bet on Fantili being better.

My Take On If We Win The Lottery
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>Detroit had the worst record in the NHL and couldn't land Alexis Lafreniere, Detroit's not getting Connor Bedard.
And pass on Seth Jones, He's grossly overpaid and noway is he getting that kind of return back from Yzerman.</div></div>
I would only go for Jones in a scenario where we are getting a superstar centre on an ELC for 3 years. If we do not win the lottery (and we almost certainly won’t) we should look to trade our 1st for a centre or RHD that moves this team into a postseason team. We’ve been rebuilding for a while now and I’d rather take a run at a home run trade and avoid repeating my childhood in the 70s and 80s where we won one playoff series.

Does the fact that you don’t have a 1st rounder for like a decade not concern you? It’s different if you’re Tampa but your team isn’t even getting out of the first round. Wouldn’t it be wiser to actually accumulate some picks while you still have Barkov and Tkachuk at a young enough age where you don’t have to go to win now mode?

If we somehow land bedard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wingsfannn</b></div><div>Cause neither of zadina or kubalik (+ its widely known yzerman is shoping zadina) will be on the wing on the top 3 lines over those wingers and fabbri on the 4th which leaves one spot . Leaves one spot and thought it be more beneficial to have someone who can actually be physically and gritty over another skilled winger. Thought if we had bedard in this scenario would be nice to have a reaves so no one would try and intimidate bedard
Sure 3 million is too much money for schenn just thought id throw any number there basically to show we should overpay him a bit so he comes here , whether that number is 2 million or 2.5 i dont know . Wanted to add someone short term on that spot</div></div>
Trading Zadina isn’t a problem but flipping him for another underperforming winter is odd. Trading Kubalik makes no sense unless it’s part of a deal to add a major asset at centre or RHD.

My Take On If We Win The Lottery
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>Not with Jones. I lump him right in with Reilly, Ekman-Larsen, and Nurse as overpaid players who do more damage to the team by eating so much cap without the production. Jones has progressively gotten worse each season, and it is quite reasonable to assume he will not get better as he continues in to his 30s.
Boston couldn't give Craig Smith away. Detroit couldn't give Erne away. Carrier is not worth that package. Korpisalo is an ideal 1B for Husso, but he will get more salary than what you suggest.</div></div>
Erne is an extra forward. Who cares about him? Sign him or let him walk I’m not bothered. Boston is in a cap crunch, which is why they had to move Smith. He’s a good defensive forward who can play centre or RW. He is good on the PK. None of that really matters unless we add to the RHD. Mo can’t be our only option. Seth Jones is a good player on an AHL team. He’s not OEL. He’s not even 30 yet. He is the kind of RHD who can put up significant minutes. Him and Mo combined would play most of a game. Bedard and Larkin down the middle, Mo and Jones on the right with what we have coming up for LHD, combined with Raymond, Perron, Kubalik, and Duclair on the wings means all we need is for Husso to be the guy and this team is ahead of everyone in our division within 3 years time except maybe Tampa. Boston will fade in a couple years due to attrition of time, Toronto is going no where and probably losing Matthews, and the rest of the division aside from Buffalo and Ottawa aren’t going to compete within 2-3 years time. The Habs are years behind in their rebuild and Florida has no future.

Wheeler is a traffic cone on skates. Petry is also a nobody. Neither trades improves this team.

The Veleno trade is garbage too.
I don’t think the three active goalies should be a long term thing for this team either haha, unless NHL makes rule change across league.</div></div>
Bedard isn’t playing wing. No chance you put a player of his calibre on the wing. Seth Jones is a good defenceman on an AHL team.
