Reloading for next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>I could see the flyers liking this</div></div>
I think Tampa could still get a late round pick for him, but if they had to pay a mid to late pick, so be it. If they want to improve for next year at all, they need to move his 2.65 out so they can use it for re-signings/ufa adds that will actually contribute. I'm sure they won't because JBB won't admit he made a very bad trade, but they 100% need to clear his cap.

Dumba can go period, since he's terrible. As much as keeping Duclair and Stamkos would be great, this team needs an actual upgrade on the blueline very badly. Save some by getting a lesser cost F for.the middle 6, get rid of Jeannot, and then use that space and some of the space from the Duclair deal to.hopefully sign a higher quality RD in ufa.

If Tampa can get a 4th+ for Jeannot, they should do it. They need to clear all or most of his cap for other, more important moves, and Wahlstrom can be waived if he doesn't work out.

I don't think Tampa would do it because of the 1st, but adding a player of Nelson's caliber and moving out Jeannot is a significant upgrade. The other concern is whether Tampa could keep Nelson after next season, as.depsite the additional cap increase, Tampa will have a big contract in Hedman already to work out. Tampa should definitely move on from Jeannot though, as his cap will be.needed for much more important areas of need.

Realistic Bolts
Stamkos likely needs 500k more to have a chance at keeping him. Sheary has to be gone, and Jeannot should be moved as well. Neither player is vital to the team having success next season. Clearing both of them gives the team enough room for Duclair or another top 6 F in the ~4 aav range. You boost Stamkos up to 6 and you fill in the bottom 6 F spot with one of several talented Syracuse players. There's still ~3 million for a.blueline addition, and just over 300k left over that can be used to add a little more to a ufa dman or one of Stamkos/Duclair if needed. Tampa would run with s 22 player roster, but that's not a dealbreaker.

I'd actually improve the defense if no Duclaor. Save 500k-1 million by paying Stamkos 6-6.5, get rid of Dumba(since he sucks) and promote Crozier or just re-sign Fleury to save 200k more. Trade Jeannot and save 1.5 by replacing him with a ~1 million aav 4th liner, and trade Perbix, whi also isn't good. They could then spend around 3.5-4 on an actual defensive upgrade for next year instead of rolling out the same trash after the main 3 or 4 guys.

Tampa likely accepts. Perbix is worth at best in the 3rd range, and it will take a mid round pick to move Sheary. Tampa gains needed cap space and still gets a 4th, so it probably works for them.

Sheary has negative value and has been one of the worst signings that JBB has ever made. His 2 million cap hit is badly needed elsewhere this offseason, so if a mid round pick or two is needed to move him, no problem. Jeannot has been a bust. It was a massive overpay and the player that JBB and the scouts thought they were getting isn't the player he really is. He fights well, but is nothing special offensively nor.defensively. He's also been very injury prone, as he's missed more time in a season and change than most. It's a loss of a trade anyway one looks at it, but they might as well try and recoup something and be able to re-allocate 2.665 million of valuable cap space in the process on areas of greater importance.

He's been their worst dman outside of CDH (who doesn't even play much), for the last third of the season. He's regressed pretty badly after a solid rookie campaign. JBB may still be able to get some value for him, and with his low cap hit, he won't be hard to move if Tampa needs the space(which they probably will). Crozier and then Schmidt will likely replace him soon enough, not to mention Powell, who has looked better than Perbix did when.comparing NCAA careers.

They probably should spend 2.5-3 for a 3RD upgrade, as long as they move out the Sheary and Perbix contracts(which they should). Kulak wouldn't be the one I'd target, though, since he plays the left mainly, and there are likely better options in ufa

Bolts Next Season
Lafferty is a solid signing for the bottom 6 if they move on from Jeannot. I don't think it would be a terrible move, but I doubt JBB is willing to admit his blunder and trade Jeannot for that. I would also upgrade the defense by trading Perbix and not running theb14tb F, then use the available 2.5 or so on a better 3RD. Perbix regressed considerably this year, so if Tampa could get some value for him and upgrade, all the better. Either Fleury or Crozier can be the 7D, but I think Crozier likely gets the spot.

Those are definitely the three players that should be moved in order to have the room to upgrade. However, I don't see Tampa running just a 21 player roster and not adding on the blueline. I also think in order to keep Duclair, they'll need to pay him somewhere in the 3.5-4 range. Stephenson would be amazing, but I think rolling with 22 and spending 2.5-3.5 on a better 3RD and a bit less on a bottom 6 F may be a more well rounded plan. I do think Crozier should get a roster spot next year, but not sure he's the full time plan at 3RD.

Yeah, I saw the Armia trade in another thread and decided to use it here. I hadn't really considered trading for him tbh. This sort of template at least gives some rough idea of how much Tampa could spend on a defensive upgrade at 3RD/bottom 6 F. Of course, if Tampa does promote another Crunch F as you said, that would, in theory, open up additional cap space for a better blueline add (up to ~3.5 possibly) or more $ for the Stamkos and Duclair extensions if needed.

Can see Duke and Stamkos probably agreeing to that. Wouldn't mind another year of Duke either. Indifferent on a 7th D as long as do their job well enough.</div></div>
Yeah, it became more and more clear, especially with the play of Duclair, that Hanifin was never coming here. It's for the best, as the defense would be taking up far too much cap space and ghe F group would be very limited. I think JBB can add a better dman though by trading Jeannot as well. You can either spend closer to 3 million on better value than Dumba, or perhaps find better value in another bottom 6 F. Jeannot has been far too injury prone and hasn't done nearly enough to remain imo, but I have my doubts that JBB is willing to admit his mistake and take the big loss on the trade. Moving the weaker players Sheary, Perbox and Jeannot does give the team the best chance to not only have flexibility with Stamkos and Duclair, but to add at least one other solid depth piece elsewhere.

There's really no need to have Cole return, as.Lilleberg is fine as a 3LD. Duclair likely gets a little more than 3.35. Roy seems like a good add, but not at the expense of Stamkos imo. Lastly, Howard is nowhere near ready for a top 6 NHL role yet. Another year at MSU, and then maybe he makes the team in '25-'26 seems a more likely path for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brolekb2b</b></div><div>TB probably passes. Not exactly sold on Smith or what his role would be in TB. Realistically we only need to move Sheary to open up cap space to resign Duclair and Stamkos for our top six, and though he had a rough start to the year because of a new system Perbix is a really decent RD for the money, I understand why he's lucrative in that regard.
The only way Perbix is on the way out is if we resign Dumba or add a good RD in UFA, and even then I think they'd want to keep him as a 7th, either him or Raddysh.</div></div>
Tampa probably declines because of cap limitations, but not because Perbix is some high value piece. Moving him and Sheary allows Tampa to much more easily re-sign both Stamkos and Duclair, as well as having enough left over(after re-signing 3 other near league min contracts) to actually upgrade the 3RD spot. Whether that's with Dumba or another ufa in the 2.5-3 range, they can definitely upgrade there.

Not a bad lineup if Stamkos ends up leaving. Tampa probably would want to run a 22nd player, and Duclair would probably need a little more imo. I'd trade Perbix for a 3rd/4th, and then add either Crozier or Fleury and a 13th F promotion from Syracuse like Goncalves, Groshev, Merela or Edmunds.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooster</b></div><div>I’ve paid pretty close to TB this year and know the exact role Nick Paul plays. He is an incredibly versatile centreman who can also slot to LW as needed, and plays specialty minutes. But in TB depth, he slots behind Point and Cirelli on any given night, hence the 3C designation. This is not debatable, unless you think Point or Cirelli slot lower. And to argue so passionately about Perbix reminds me of Sens fans arguing that Brannstrom is a legit top 4 guy.
Listen, I like both of the TB players, but if Brisbois was ever offered this deal, he should jump at it. Chychrun is entering his prime years and would be able to shelter Hedman’s minutes as he inevitably faces the aging curve.
At the end of the day, maybe we disagree on this deal. All good. I’ll be a tourist in the playoffs again as a Sens fan and am hopeful that the Lightning can take another run with this core.</div></div>
You're pretty spot on with your analysis. While I doubt Ottawa would offer this deal, Tampa would easily accept based on the reasons you provided. Perbix still had some positive value, but despite what that other poster(imo it's in your best interest to ignore them) thinks, Perbix has regressed this year and is not a top 4 dman at this time. He could rebound as it could just be a rough 2nd full year, but as is he's a liability most nights for Tampa as of late.

And it is brilliant for TB as it leaves your top 6 and top 4 untouched.</div></div>
Yeah, provided the extension with Chychrun was in place, Tampa accepts this imo. Perbix is definitely a 3RD and while Paul has been very solid in his role, replacing him would be far easier than getting g a top 4 dman long term.

Got absolutely no issue with Chaffee on a line with an established playmaker and solid center, but both partners should also be able to drive the play and be capable of abundant scoring. Love Chaffee, he's worked so hard to get here, but I don't think he will be the go-to shooter on a top six line and that's nothing against him. I genuinely wouldn't be opposed to developing Max Groshev or Niko Huuhtanen in the top six next season, both have had great glimpses as well and should be considered as an extra forward out of camp or even in a middle six role.</div></div>
Maybe Groshev, but Huuhtanen is nowhere near ready for the NHL imo. He has the tools, but his skating and stamina need work. He also needs to adjust to NA ice. If he signs, I'd send him to Syracuse and working with Underhill next year, and then if he does well, perhaps make tbe jump to Tampa in '25-'26.

True, but trading for his rights wouldn't be an issue if he made it clear leading up to ufa that he was signing I'm Tampa. They'd give Vegas a 6th or something. There was some smoke out there that an extension was pretty close with Tampa in this range(maybe 6.75) had he been traded to Tampa. Again, I think it's a large mistake to sign Hanifin with the defensemen they already have, but it is possible.

Yeah, the more I watch Dumba and Perbix, the more of a liability I see both of them as on the team next year. I would rather use the space from both of the contracts and try to find an actual upgrade on the right side (Crozier could also factor in). There may be some hope still for Perbix, but he's been straight garbage lately, and likely cost the team at least a point tonight in a key game with his error late.
