The Flames don't really have a roster spot for Jeannot

As much as some fans may not like Jeannot Julien Brisebois loves the guy he's not going. You can not sign Laferty keep Jeannot and still be under the cap with a 23 man roster.

A 5th isn't enough to move Sheary. At least not to Chicago. Hawks easily pass.

Lafferty is a solid signing for the bottom 6 if they move on from Jeannot. I don't think it would be a terrible move, but I doubt JBB is willing to admit his blunder and trade Jeannot for that. I would also upgrade the defense by trading Perbix and not running theb14tb F, then use the available 2.5 or so on a better 3RD. Perbix regressed considerably this year, so if Tampa could get some value for him and upgrade, all the better. Either Fleury or Crozier can be the 7D, but I think Crozier likely gets the spot.

Calgary might do that but after what Tampa paid to get him they probably wouldn't.

Left shot wingers are the last thing Calgary needs but if he doesn't cost too much a big physical one like Jeannot could be an exception. We have too many left shot forwards now but most of them are small and/or not very physical.
