Maybe Florida or LA would be better spots. Possibly the Wild as well

True it isn't, but why would any team take a lesser deal given the crunch the leafs are in?

In general the Mrazek trade set the standard for future dumps as nobody will use old examples anymore (i.e. 2nd + player for FC). Thanks to Chicago a new age of dump trades has been born</div></div>
You could also read that as nothing for Quick because they were already getting a 1st and a 3rd for expiring FAs all around.
Cal Peterson on the other end has yet to move. Again not sure Mrazek reset the market that hard

Murray is done after this season so u could argue less spot drops to move him. And with Boston and Avs picks being way more than 13 spots thats not good.</div></div>
Again it just seemed to be a common trade. I also think the Mrazek trade was the exceptional outlier, not the standard but I could be wrong

Based on most common trades and signing suggestions
This is just a compilation of common trades I've seen dozens of times, from fans of many different team. I'm not necessarily of the mind that these are necessarily moves that happen, or are even what I would do. It was just taking common moves and seeing how they'd all look together with Anaheim.
That being said, I'd like to respond to both points:
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GreatWhiteNorth</b></div><div>Canucks aren’t “giving away” Myers. After his bonus is paid he actually has a desirable contract. He’ll at least get a prospect or pick back. Canucks decline. </div></div>
Even after his bonus is paid, it still doesn't change his actual cap hit. I get that a money conscious team would love to only have to pay a guy a million, but they still have to account for the 6 against the cap he'd still carry as at best a 4D on a contender. It's not as attractive as you think for a league with little money to spend and only a few places that could take him. Vancouver also needs to start finding cap somewhere to make changes unless they're thinking what they have is actually working.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GreatWhiteNorth</b></div><div>Leafs ARE NOT trading a 1st to move Murray, even in a pick swap. His buyout cost is so low that it doesn’t make any sense to give away that kind of asset for any reason. Leafs decline.</div></div>
Leafs are a ceiling team no matter what they do. They're competing and have virtually no financial blockers stopping them from spending to the ceiling. They'll want to use that cap for players, especially 2 mil in the second year. It isn't as simple as a buy out.

That works for Anaheim value-wise imo, but we might be looking at a different player of the same quality as Aho. He's good but we're pretty flush with undersized puck movers, especially on the left. If it's that or nothing it's Definitely not a dealbreaker

They didn't need to lose Durzi's salary to make the at all, which is the difference here. If the leafs wanted to acquire Vatrano, salary has to come out, and as a pending UFA, Engvall hold no future value to the Ducks l. Hence, in the context of which we're discussing, he's a cap dump.

He's a depth guy getting paid too much to play as far down the lineup as he is in a cap strapped league. He provides value to the leafs sure, but there is no value for Anaheim from him in this trade. It makes no sense for either side, but you'd need to include him to it or another move to make it all cap compliant if you did. That makes him a cap dump.

The difference is at no point has Anaheim tried to get rid of Vatrano. That would be the "dump" part missing from a "cap dump"
It's been widely reported that the Leafs have tried to move Engvall in multiple years.
But, in the specific situation as well, in order to make a hypothetical trade FOR Frank Vatrano (interest = positive value = not a dump), the Leafs would need to move out salary (or a "cap dump" if you will) to make it work. Engvall provides zero value to the Ducks, so he is on everyway a cap dump in this scenario, which is the context we're discussing.

Quite literally Anaheim is not trying to dump Vatrano. That's what makes him not a cap dump.
Engvall on the other hand is at the top of the list of guys out the door if Toronto intends on making any roster trades this season.

I'm very familiar with his game. He's a bottom 6 pending UFA who's plain just making too much in a cash strapped league. He offers no value to a rebuilding team and you need to move him to make any moves at all. He's a cap dump any way you can slice itm
