https://puckpedia.com/CapRelief

Like I said, that is putting the contract into a vacuum and ignoring the player completely. Go the other direction.... if you were to trade a pick(s) only for Skinner the player ignoring contract what value would you put on him? I honestly don't know what value I'd give him but I don't think I'd trade a 24th overall draft pick for him. I don't know, maybe he is worth that much.

Where he breaks down a bit for me is if he is a 50-60 point player or an 80 point player? He's scored 50-ish points in a season a lot more often than he has 80. You should be able to get a 50 point player in free agency without giving up any value. Is he really all that much better 7M than Vatrano was last season 3.6M? Would you trade a 24th OA pick for Vatrano? I wouldn't.</div></div>

I’m not sure I’m buying the tool’s valuation on this one at all. Like you said, Cap relief isn’t made in a vacuum here, there’s a player that comes along with it who has very material value. We’re not simply retaining $7M. We’re taking on $7M and then getting roughly 30 goals and 30 assists per year. Those are very different things. Would we use Puckpedia to evaluate Terry’s trade value as a $7M cap relief?

I’d argue that Vatrano isn’t a good comp at all either. If he had the year he just had before FA, he’d cost a heck of a lot more than $3.7M to sign. It’s incredibly rare and lucky to find a 35 goal scorer in FA for under $4M, he’s a huge outlier

Frankly, the idea that you could go from 28th to 11th while adding a ~60pt scorer at a position of need on what would be a maybe $1.5M-$2M overpriced contract for 3 years seems outrageously favorable to ANA imo if anything.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Do you feel as a somewhat undersized speedy winger that his game will be hampered with significantly less room to operate on North American Ice? That's my concern with those type of players, defenses are more spread out on euro ice.

I also am doubtful we win the second lottery and move up to two, it seems the consensus 1-3 is Celebrini, Demidiv, then Leshunov. I know I've turned hotter on Parekh, especially with the connection to Mintyukov, but it really comes down to where our pick lands. If we drop to 4 or 5 Verbeek s got more latitude to pick a riskier but more rewarding guy, if we pick at 2 or 3 you kind of have to go with the guy you know will hit, even if it's not the highest ceiling in the class. You can "lose" the pick at two by taking a guy who should have gone 5th in a redraft, but you can't loose at 2 by taking a guy who busts.</div></div>

I’m honestly not concerned. Plenty of examples of speedy wingers who find success here with far less skill. His hands and offensive IQ are so elite he still seems to have no problem operating when there’s little-to-no space. Is he ready for the NHL right now at his weight? No. But he’s 5’11, thats not necessarily an undersized frame, but it’s on that cusp

For ceiling/floor I think Celebrini tops both, and Demidov is 2nd in both. For floor Lev is probably near 3, and Parekh is probably near 3 for ceiling. I’d honestly trust the ANA scouting staff either way. My worst case is that we end up 5th and they’re all off the board. As long as we’re top 4 I’m cool with it, and would prefer top 3 to at least get a chance to see who our scouting staff prefers most

My ‘in the realm of possibility’ dream scenario is Demidov and then finding a way to move up for Yakemchuk. I’m vibing on that more than the alternative of Lev/Parekh + MBN
