Vancouver isn't trading Teddy Bludgeoner for a 4th round pick. He's our 6th leading point scorer on a ppg basis and leads all our forwards in penalty killing minutes per game. TB is a rockstar!

No chance that Ottawa trades Norris for just picks (and especially that poor of return of picks). They would need a significant roster player as well.

Canucks next year no EP40
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>Canucks pass on both of those deals. Cozens has been very underwhelming this year, need a better headline piece than him. I’d also hope for a better prospect than Ostlund if possible
Kuzmenko for Smith straight up is probably fair but I’d rather have Kuzmenko still. No need to add a good prospect</div></div>
Cozens is the real deal, he's just struggling along with pretty much every Buffalo Sabres player this year, although I did consider swapping Tage Thompson instead and dropping the 1st. Ostlund projects to be a top 6 player, maybe a #2 Centre as he's also a pretty good two way player. He was on my radar because of his chemistry with Lekkerimaki at the World Juniors this year.
Pittsburgh wouldn't swap Reilly for Kuzy even up I don't think.

I would hope that Petey re-ups in Vancouver and his agent doesn't play games, but you know that Vancouver has to have a plan B.

No chance, he gets $2.5M easily. Another team would pay Zadorov more than $3.5M too. I think that Arturs Silvos is NHL ready and would be a good back up at $800k rather than DeSmith (whom I like) at $2M.

O and D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>McLeod has been elite this year but this is a massive overpay</div></div>
Easy there on using the word "elite" to describe McLeod. He was a 12th overall pick who was drafted with the expectation to be an above average scoring Centreman. Although he's having a career year this year, he's still only on pace for 36. He turns 26 in Feb and has never had a season over 26 points before. He only averages 15 mins TOI, which I would expect to be higher this year with all the time missed by Hughes and Hischier. I will say that his ability to win faceoffs is elite though, there's maybe no one better. McLeod might be an above average 'defensive centre', but even if you look at the average SH TOI for New Jersey centermen, he isn't the #1 penalty killer, Nico Hischier is. If you want to see what elite looks like, you have many examples:
- Jesper Bratt is elite
- Jack Hughes is elite
- Nico Hischier is elite
- Dougie Hamilton is elite
- Luke Hughes is on his way to being elite
But Michael McLead? In no way shape or form is he elite. I'll take back my "bust" comment, although he hasn't lived up to the expectations of when he was drafted. That said, in that same year we took Olli Juolevi at #5 overall, so compared to him, McLeod is a Hall of Famer.

What do you see in this return from NJD that make you think this is a good thing? Bastian = meh, McLeod is a bust, and Smith is a geezer who is closer to retirement than he is to helping the Canucks. We'll be giving up one potential awesome d-man prospect in HB, a solid middle 6 performer in Podkolzin, a 1st rounder, and a guy who scored 39 goals last year, but has fallen out of favour with the coach. Bad idea, ba bad bad bad bad!

Canucks accept! I'd pay a 3rd rounder for Joker. He's turning into a reliable 3rd pairing d-man who could play 15 - 16 mins a game. He's a right handed shot that could fill a hole for us in the future for a reasonable price.
Colorado says no, Philly looks hard at this.

All these deals are fair value, the question is "Will it win the Canucks a Stanley Cup?". If they can't honestly look at this and say that it makes them the absolute favourite to hoist Lord Stanley, then don't do it. It's a dangerous game mortgaging the future for rentals - You listening Leafs fans???? Cough cough cough Ryan O'Reilly cough Erik Gustafsson cough cough Jake Muzzin cough cough Luke Schenn cough cough a WHOLE BUNCH of quality draft picks...

What if the Devils were Sellers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrodeurBro30</b></div><div>I think if they aren’t confident that they can make a run in the playoffs, they should sell and acquire future assets and use those picks and prospects acquired to really go after an established goalie in the offseason. We are injured to no bounds this season. On your second point, I do think that Ruff should be replaced, but I also admit I supported the extension. I really wanted Brunette, but he left for Nashville. Yes, the PP has gotten significantly better since Bruno was removed, but our PK fell off a cliff.</div></div>
I think the NJDs should hire Jim Benning as their GM and he'll fire Lindy Ruff.

Probably a reasonable idea to sell some assets given NJD's future, however they should start with getting rid of their coach. Wrong guy for this group.

Weaking the d-core is what I'm afraid of. We're the 2nd hightest scoring team in the NHL and a couple of NHL ready kids coming soon too. Our defensive prospects still have a few years.

No, I think the Blues are out of the playoffs easily. I just think that Sundqvist is a better player and Puustinen will never be a regular in the NHL. The 3rd rounder might push it over the edge.
