Curious as to why you think Tatar won’t be extended at the end of his contract. He was a big part of the habs most consistent line of Gallagher, danault and himself. Seems very well liked amongst the locker room and already a fan favourite after 1 season.

I agree with you here, but like I say in my post I don’t think the habs see Domi as a long term C. And when he shifts to the wing on a line with KK (I assume this is what they’ll do) lehkonen probably doesn’t crack the top 6 as is. Drouin, Tatar, Gallagher, Domi are all ahead of him on the winger depth chart.
Shaw, Byron, and Armia are all more effective in a bottom 6 role and when lehkonen isn’t scoring his penalty killing is alright but he doesn’t really offer much else to the team. This makes him the odd man out imo with the influx of forwards the team has, and needing room for poehling and Suzuki in 2020-2021.

I’d love to agree with your thought, but just look at lehkonen’s usage last season. He was shuffled throughout the lineup often, losing his spot in the top 9 to other players as well. Byron wears an A, and when healthy Shaw consistently plays in the top 6 it seems and is liked by the coaching staff very much. Tatar was phenomenal on our 1st line this past season. Drouin and lehkonen are my most likely to be traded, and a Drouin trade is much harder to make therefore leading me to believe lehkonen is the odd man out.

I honestly agree with this statement. I just think the habs aren’t going to get much else for lehkonen at this point - more of a projected real trade than one is actually want to happen.

BUF, MTL, NYI trade
All of these deals are pretty fair imo. Argument about ROR being over/under paid is kinda silly imo. 7.5M is a good contract for a great 200ft Center. Saad - younger top 6 winger and a 1st and prospect probably gets the deal done if buffalo decides to move ROR. With eichel-middelstat as the future 1-2C it’s not out of this world to see buffalo move ROR for some help in the top 6 forwards or another dman to go along with risto and dahlin

I understand why kovalchuk would pick Washington (ovi connection, Stanley cup contender) but I really think there’s going to be many teams bidding for him in what will be a 6-7M x2 AAV deal

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>It’s extremely rare for a player to take a discount to go to a specific team, and usually it doesn’t involve high end players. Kane said he loved his time in SJ yet still got the contract that he did. And wasn’t it Doughty who said that he absolutely wants to stay in LA but that he’ll “get what he deserves”. Anyways from Pacioretty perspective, he’s already taken a cheap long term contract with MTL at $4.5mil AAV, he fired his agent because of it too lol, and has already joked about it in post game interviews that he won’t be making that mistake again. Like you said though, who knows what will happen, but I think I can speak with some level of certainty that Patches get nothing less than $7mil come 2019, especially with the cap increasing.</div></div>
This is someone speaking with common sense. Thank you for the intelligent words.

When Sidney Crosby signed his contract the salary cap was 56.7M. This means that Crosby’s deal accounted for 15% of the teams cap. That deal signed at the current salary cap of 75M would be 11.25M AAV (giving him the highest cap hit of any player in the league until mcdavid’s deal kicks in next season). Pacioretty would carry no loyalty to the LA kings and enter as a free agent with multiple teams interested/bidding. Do you realize what I’m saying now?

Very clever response.... even with your above point about “players taking less to go to a contender” we’re talking about a player who is a perennial 30+ goal scorer who plays a good 200 ft game and is still in his prime. The cap will be even higher going into 19-20 so expect around 6.5-7M AAV the minimum Pacioretty signs for.

Another potential 2018 habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HABS19</b></div><div>no need for a defence and a overpayed goalie</div></div>
I disagree with the no need for defence statement. The habs were an awful team defensively last year with one of the worst GA per game. Weber (when he’s healthy) is going to need a legitimate top 4 partner on his left side. Mete May be that but I don’t think it’s wise to rush to him yet.
The goalie I do agree, we don’t need. I just personally like Gauthier a lot and he fits in well with the team, Carolina doesn’t really have anyonelse other than darling to dump cap with, perhaps it could be a low level roster player along with Gauthier and retain 1M on Shaw (at 2.9M he’s a serviceable player)
Thank you for your feedback though

Playoffs or not?
Without much changes... honestly no playoffs. Hurts to say as a habs fan but this seems like the most logical time to try and retool/rebuild. Tampa, Toronto and Boston are all loaded with talent so any chance at playoffs these next couple seasons at least will likely come via the wild card spot. Our top 4 Defence is suspect on the LHD, and our forwards are not talented enough to make up for this. Really, without substantial moves unless Carey plays all world for an entire 82 game season we’re on the outside looking in come April
