Even if he did, Detroit's not taking on an $11M cap rental while Seider and Raymond need new deals.

Detroit can't afford that contract. So they obviously pass on Tavares and he'd have to waive.

Leafs add mathews and Nylander at 50% retained to the wings trade, that's how far off it is

Yeah... Trading two Top 5 prospects and our 1st for an overpaid winger who disappears when it matters and is one year from UFA is gonna be a hard no.

For one year of Marner? F*ck no.
Topped it off with Ras on the first line....

Not in the ballpark at all for Detroit. Zero interest in him or his contract. Also waaaaay too much to give up.

I think that Boston, without a pick in the first 100 this June, would be charmed to take that package (including 15th overall) for Linus Ullmark, even if he's a lame duck.

This is exactly why I don't read or subscribe to sports publications.
This guy follows the NHL and thinks this is a feasible or productive move? Wow.

Detroit better not entertain anything like this. The guy was just talking out of his ass anyways.

any GM that trades a top 25 pick or B prospect or higher for markstrom should be banned from the NHL. like you said hes 34, might have 2-3 year left at being anything close too good, his value comes as a rental in his final contract year.

Markstrom is 34 years old.
Yzerman should pack his bags if he makes this trade.
Better off stapling a 2nd/3rd to Husso's ass and shipping him to Chicago.
Then try to make a deal with Boston for Ullmark.

I mean that Boeser trade with Holl added in favors Detroit, even if he is a 1 year rental, but I think I'd rather trade 1st + Berggren for RHD help and buy out Holl.
Wingers aren't really a need for Detroit, whereas RHD is atrocious.

No one is going to give you that for Marner.
He's a rental, with an 11 mil cap hit.
A Teams that aren't real contenders aren't going to give up assets for that.
B Teams that are contenders don't have 11 mil in cap space to make it work.
You have a very small group of teams that can make it work, and how much cap is moved back and forth will be significant.
Look at two of the most recent trades.
EK to the penguins. They got a 1st and a whole lot of cap dumps and they had to retain 1.5 mil.
Why, no team had 11.5 mil in cap space. This is for a guy with 4 years of term on his deal and came off a hell of a year.
Guentzel to CAR, 2nd a mid 6 winger who was struggling, and a few B prospects. Jake was a rental and came at a much smaller cap hit.
Neither one of those trades suggest TOR is getting anywhere close to what their fan base thinks they are getting for Rental Marner.
So first thing is first in trading Marner..... How much is TOR retaining? Because if it's 0. Your return is going to be little. As no one has the cap.
If you are retaining 50%... you probably get a return like Guentzel above. A mid 6 guy to balance the cap, a 2nd and a B prospect or 2.
Again limited by the number of contending teams who can actually make a trade happen.

Detroit ain't taking it either. Don't have the cap to add Marner's $10.9M this year, let alone retain him on a new contract.
