Me and my buddy always talk about signing older guys like Cullen, Kunitz, type 4th line players with the intent to only have them play home games, to sort of shelter the new guys ie blueger into some playing time. It sounds like such a good idea to us, but no one ever seems to do it. Keep the older players healthy with less play time and give the new players time to rest/review previous games while not feeling like they have been pulled based on play because its strictly schedule.

But he is obligated. You act like the media is out to get him? Why would they be? and how does it help them? Antonio Brown is the biggest asshole in prefessional sports, and the Pittsburgh media doesn't say a single bad word about him. Just be a professional and let the media do their job.

Yea well, Kessel needs to man the **** up and be a professional. Speaking to the media is part of his contract/part of the CBA. Grow up, be an adult and give the media real answers. 99% of the other NHL players don't ***** about it, why does Kessel get to act like a child about it?

Pens - 2018-2019 Roster...Final Answer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tozzy2205</b></div><div>You’ll get hate for this but tbh thats all Domi is worth. Massively unproven player in need of a better system. Sheary had an off year but still did alright and was nearly a ppg player year before (even though with Crosby) and Jarry can be a starter and is young enough to develop with Arizona.
A side note. Don’t know if this fixes our defence issue and also, I would throw sprong on Brassards line as Sprong struggles defensively and Brassard is best known as a defensive player. Creates a nice balance.</div></div>
I don't know why everyone in pittsburgh is so fixated on Sprong playing with Crosby?? Sprong is an unproven sniper, who has apparently not improved his defensive game at all in 2 years or he would already be in the NHL full time. Crosby wants grindy guys that constantly buzz around the net adn arent afraid to battle in the tight areas. It has been like that his entire 13 yr career. Same reason Kessel doesn't play with him and Neal didn't and as well Sprong won't. That will be a spot for Rust, Horny, ZAR adn Sheary is he is still there.

Im not saying one is better than the other but, Draisaitl has had 2 70 pt seasons and 1 50pt season, at age 22, william Karlesson has had 1 70 pt and 2 20pt seasons at 25. There is a difference in consistancy there.

You couldn't be more wrong, nothing against Sprong and ZAR but they aren't players of the future, they are just middle six to bottom 9 roster spots. Not to Mention Tavares single handely extends our window and brightens the future.

becasue he is not a core player. I'm not advocating it, but he is young with a decent contract and term, so he has more value than our other players to other teams. Anyone not named Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Guentzal and Murray and possibly Dumo, should be thought of as available if the price is right.

no way grabner signs for less than 3.5m next year, most likely 4-4.5 he has what 27 goals right now. probably gonna end up with 33-35. and with the cap expected to rise big time, every team will has spare money to spend/overspend on someone like grabner.

They won 4, not eight, in the last two years, without Letang. The difference in those two championships is, the Penguins dominated everyone, including Tampa Bay in 2016. In 2017, they dominated no one for more than singular shifts. That difference should primarily be attributed to the absense of Kris Letang.

He is getting beat on foot races for sure but I dont think its fair to throw him away just yet. He still really impresses me, just needs to be consistent.</div></div>
He has very good offensive awarness and probably makes less mistakes than most other d-men, But when he does they are just so glaring do to his tortoise like foot speed. If he would just speed an entire summer working on that, and actually improve, I think he could be in the 2-3 d-man range. but skills things like acceleration and top end speed aren't really the skills you can teach or train for.

BOS-PIT trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>djsuperdock</b></div><div>I don't think the trade is fair.. Career numbers for the two may be similar at this point but Sheary exploded last year and just signed a nice deal while Spooner doesn't appear to be on the upswing as much. Sheary's numbers last year almost all came at ES also - he is not just riding shotgun with Crosby, he is a legit top 6 winger.</div></div>
As a Pittsburgh fan, I don't actually think he is a top 6 winger. I think he lacks raw skill of a top 6 winger, i mean half the time he makes a move he loses the puck or gets knocked off the puck or just knocked on the ground. But what he lacks in raw skill, he absolutely makes up for, 10 fold, in his abilitly to play away from the puck and general offensive awareness. Which seems to be exactly what Crosby wants. Let crosby do all the dirty work, while sheary finds a soft spot in the D and get easy tap ins. The Chemisty that Crosby, Guentzal and Sheary have, is veyr reminisnt of Crosby, Kunitz and Dupuis. So financially statswise and skillwise it may be a fair trade, but this trade would be a big time loss for the pens.

Retain half. Keep your nhlers.</div></div>make sense but in Duchene you get a better and younger player. Also Bozak is FA next summer so we'll be risking the same situation as Bonino this year. I also feel like we can give up someone like Sheary up in a trade with Sprong and Aston-Reese coming up. But i wouldn't mind Bozak at all for that 3 Line centre position.</div></div>
I do not like the idea of moving Conor Sheary...In Crosbys 12 years, we have had 4 players that have had chemistry with him, maybe 5(kunitz, dupe, sheary and Guentzal, maybe horny). I would not give that up unless we are getting the world in return. I don't have a whole lot of faith in Sprong meshing well, he seems more like a james neal fit with Malkin. ZAR on the other hand, maybe, but we will have to see some game time together. Luckily we are back to back champs, and don't really have a fear of missing the playoffs or being in a playoff race late in the season, so basically have unitl the trade dealline to try out all possible line combos before making a decision

Blueger Making the Team and the Reprocussions
Why do other Pens fans want to give up Hagelin for absolutely nothing? Especially when he plays a position we do not have oganizational depth. Sprong will not play on Crosbys right side for any extended period of time, that is sheary's spot, if not, hornqvist's with JG on the left. Sprong, doesn't play the Crosby (grinder) style of hockey that makes players like JG, CS, kunitz and Dupuis fit so well. Same reason Neal and Kessel didn't/don't mesh well with Crosby. If Sprong makes it, it will be on Malkin's right side, and Kessel should be the one to be shopped.

Unbeatable
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MajesticWalrus</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyNM1510</b></div><div>You can't pay someone 8.5 million to play on McDavid's wing. You need cheap players to play with McDavid and Draisaitl to center other cheap players. Which is what Pittsburgh does.</div></div>
What Pittsburgh does isn't put cheap wingers. McDavid may be somewhat comparable to Crosby but Draisaitl is no where near Malkins skill level maybe kessel though. Kessel isn't cheap and he plays with them, Pittsburgh doesn't hire cheap people to play with Malkin and Crosby, just not their strategy, its getting superstars. In this case, Tavares would be getting a Superstar, the thought of him being a free agent is very cool to think about because he can drastically change any team into a better one. No matter what team you chear for, his departure would be interesting except if your an isalnders fan of course. Vancouver could get him though, they've finally shown this past summer that they can make good signings. Next year with the Sedins alone possibly retired is 14 million in cap space, they have a bunch of other players that become FAs too.</div></div>
Pittsburgh has 1 winger being paid over 6 mil...I wouldn't really consider that "getting superstars". Kessel was in an unfavorable situation in toronto and Pittsburgh capitolized on it. What Pittsburgh is doing is, trusting the young players ie. AHL players, to play with the superstars. You need entry level contracts (under 1 mil) through out the line up so that you can afford to "over-pay" on other players salaries(middle 6 and 3-4 defensemen). And doing what ever you have to do to not over pay on term.
McD is the next generational superstar, he can play with anyone. They should not waste time and money on finding players to play with him, but rather invest in players for Draisatl and Strome and sure up a stronger blueline.
