Nashville Predators signed Roman Josi (8 Years / $9,059,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>Josi is well worth the money but you cannot give 8 years at a high cap hit to past their prime players. This along with some of the sharks contracts have buyout written all over it sometime after 2024.</div></div>
Josi is 29 probably plays good hockey till he is 36-37 so I think this is worth the term, at least he isn't signed for that extra 2m contracts like Karlsson are at. I feel like with increased cap in time this will be OK when he is older and around 2026-28 when the contract is big for his skill level the cap will hopefully be closer to 105-110m which is decent.

Thread:
Minnesota Wild signed Jared Spurgeon (7 Years / $7,575,000 AAV)
Spurgeon is a great dman–and, if you're an analytics nerd, one of the best in the league. But this is not a good contract because of its length and his age.
Had Spurgeon been two years younger, or if this deal was for only five years, it'd be good. However, that is clearly not the case.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>Will anyone honestly vote "no" on this one?</div></div>
Its not great for longterm for the team. Its great for short term but will they be able to capitalize off the savings? or did they just outprice themselves on a young top pairing dman when he is slated to get paid again in 3 years.

Carolina Hurricanes signed Jake Gardiner (4 Years / $4,050,000 AAV)
When was the last time Carolina spent to the cap ceiling? Highest payroll in team history! OTT take note: This is how you manage a small market hockey team in a cap league! Build through the draft and trades and add a couple of well timed UFA's when ready to compete. Well done.

Nashville Predators signed Colton Sissons (7 Years / $2,857,143 AAV)
Great AAV tbh. Term isn't too bad as he's fairly decent and still 25. If he gets 40-45 points in even just one of those 7 years, this is really good value. Cap should be way higher in 7 years.
For comparison, Tanev got 3.5 x 6 w/ a modified NTC and Sissons was even more productive.

A top pairing defensemen in his prime should get this 100%. I don't get why people are upset about this contract. The cap has gone up over the years. It's a great deal IMO

23 YO winger playing C puts up 72 points boosting his teammates numbers.
31 YO PPG winger puts up 82 points playing with Crosby and Malkin.
Compare any of their advanced numbers and you will know.

This'll probably be another Joe Thornton situation where he takes one-year deals until he's ready to retire. So Boston can keep him on the cheap for the rest of his career while he's still very effective. Helps them out a bunch
