Way better rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>poeticentropy</b></div><div>I wager if SJ didn't ship him out then we'd have plenty of other pissed off ACGMs claiming "way better rebuild" as well
Imagine all the games SJ loses now for the tank</div></div>
We were losing anyway, might as well build the future around Hertl and Meier as the pair. Ship Cooch out next TDL, run out the clock on Pickles' contract, let Bordeleau work his way into the 2C/W role. I have a feeling if SJ is out of the Top-3 they're gonna pick Michkov, which wouldn't be the worst consolation, and should give time for Eklund, Bordeleau, Kaut, etc to build the chemistry with Hertl, Meier and EK65 as the leaders.
But, what's done is done. Mike Grier has made a fool of us all and that's that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>OEL provides much more value to Vancouver than his 3.5 million dead cap. We’d be paying him 3.5 mil for 5 years to do nothing. He is still a good player. He had pretty good defensive numbers. If you want him so much, pay something to acquire him. The Canucks won’t be retaining of he’s traded, especially not 50% retained</div></div>
We can negotiate retention, but there will be significant retention for an aging player with average offensive and defensive numbers and 5yrs left of his contract. Mind you, the only reason why I have any interest in him is to pair him with EK65, which is an experiment to say the least. SJ is taking the risk here, not VAN.

You don’t get those for free. Why would Vancouver give up a pick while retaining 50%? No logic there. Pretty poor quality ACGM post all around. Siegenthaler trade is a yikes for New Jersey</div></div>
OEL is no longer elite, none of his metrics prove that he is. I think you might do well to calm down and bring your fandom back down to Earth. Also, if you read the thread I agreed to forego the 2nd.
Re NJ, Hill brings much more value to NJ's system than Siegenthaller, otherwise NJ would be a better team. And yes, Hill's goalie metrics do prove it.

Yes, but then it's gone in a season, just in time to sign Petey. Also, Simek can be buried easily.

Hill is a really good, young goalie prospect with a low, fixed AAV and will remain an RFA when it expires. NJ has a grip of Dmen in their prospect system, but like barely any good goalies, otherwise they would've been a playoff bubble team.

Call it straight up then. It's a BIG risk for a lot of term. VAN is getting the clear advantage with cap space flexibility.

Ryan Strome can't win a faceoff to save his life. I say we go after Trocheck if that's the price we're willing to pay.

If SJ is getting the Gaudreau that's blossomed in MIN then it's a good deal, but we need a truly solid 3C and trusting him in that position after one good year late in his career is a big risk.

I think he has a lot of potential. He was really held back under Ducharme's system, like Caufield he's coming out of his funk.

WAS (unknown)
MIN (unknown)
Some others I’m sure. With San Jose, it would probably be Zacha+ for Meier, or Labanc+ for Zacha. Hard to envision many other options. Maybe Adn Hill?</div></div>
I could see a Labanc+ trade working out, as long as the + isn't too much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>This is a really good idea and good bet for contract projections.
I do think SJ would be better off even attaching a mid-rounder to Simek's deal if that's what it takes to open up cap space, as well as trade out Labanc, than buying out Vlasic. I think a few more UFA guys would be needed to truly make the team competitive, so maybe have to buy out Vlasic on top of those two moves.</div></div>
I feel like we've tried to trade Simek already, and Labanc's contract is too much for most teams, so I think they're staying. Also, quite frankly (and sadly), I think Simek is currently more useful than Pickles, and if Labanc is utilized correctly he still has a lot of potential, plus both players' contracts are more than halfway finished.

Hey BOS fans, if you're gonna trade for Hertl here's some perspective... What if BOS traded Krejci in 2015? What would you want?
Would it be a single 1st, an expensive middle-6er, and a D-tier prospect?
Doubt it.
