You’d have to pay to get OEL at 3.5 million, not the other way around

Yeah would need quite a lot more coming our way to move one of the best defensive dmen in the league this year lol

Call it straight up then. It's a BIG risk for a lot of term. VAN is getting the clear advantage with cap space flexibility.

Hill is a really good, young goalie prospect with a low, fixed AAV and will remain an RFA when it expires. NJ has a grip of Dmen in their prospect system, but like barely any good goalies, otherwise they would've been a playoff bubble team.

Canucks wouldn't do this. 50% retain is way too much and Simek immediately cuts into that for a couple years and offers nothing. So it's more or less paying Simek 6m for two year. We already had Loui...

Yes, but then it's gone in a season, just in time to sign Petey. Also, Simek can be buried easily.

He's a pending UFA and Siegenthaler led the entire league in defensive GAR this year.

OEL is a legit top 4 d man. He’s been elite defensively and with top minutes, he will put up better offensive numbers. You don’t get those for free. Why would Vancouver give up a pick while retaining 50%? No logic there. Pretty poor quality ACGM post all around. Siegenthaler trade is a yikes for New Jersey

OEL buyout the last two years is pretty light under 2m per season. I just think Van would want assets at 50% retain. OEL at 3.5 is steal.

OEL is no longer elite, none of his metrics prove that he is. I think you might do well to calm down and bring your fandom back down to Earth. Also, if you read the thread I agreed to forego the 2nd.
Re NJ, Hill brings much more value to NJ's system than Siegenthaller, otherwise NJ would be a better team. And yes, Hill's goalie metrics do prove it.

OEL provides much more value to Vancouver than his 3.5 million dead cap. We’d be paying him 3.5 mil for 5 years to do nothing. He is still a good player. He had pretty good defensive numbers. If you want him so much, pay something to acquire him. The Canucks won’t be retaining of he’s traded, especially not 50% retained

We can negotiate retention, but there will be significant retention for an aging player with average offensive and defensive numbers and 5yrs left of his contract. Mind you, the only reason why I have any interest in him is to pair him with EK65, which is an experiment to say the least. SJ is taking the risk here, not VAN.

Talking about a team not afraid to sign guys over 35 and get the most out of em, and it appears you've forgotten about the Pavelski/Burns connection. Take a nap.

Devils would not trade him for a backup goalie

I misinterpreted the title to apply to Siegs

Retain money and Dallas would maybe be interested.

The reason they want to get rid of Klinger is because they don’t want to pay him 8 million till he’s 38, Burns is getting paid 8 million till he’s 41. They bring basically the same thing, a lot of offence and not much defence.
