Group one, literally means that you are off your ELC. Countless resources can tell you this, but I don't think you need to go there. It is called a group 1 RFA. RFA stands for restricted free agent. There are two big examples of that this year, Boeser, and McAvoy. Both are acknowledged by all the media guys as exactly what they are, group one restricted free agents.
If group 1 RFA meant that you were still on your entry level deal, why would it be called group 1 rfa? why would it be called anything? Why wouldn't it just be called the players entry level deal?</div></div>
I've got the CBA right in front of me:
Subject to subsection (c) below, the period covered by the SPC for every Rookie,
and the number of years that such Player will be in the Entry Level System and subject to the
compensation limits set out in this Article, shall be as indicated on the chart immediately below,
and during such period, the Player shall be deemed to be a "Group 1 Player":
First SPC Signing Age
Period Covered by First SPC
and Years in the Entry Level System
and Subject to Compensation Limits
18-21 3 years
22-23 2 years
24 1 year
25 and older No required number of years, not in the Entry Level
System and not subject to limits on compensation

Because he was 19 when he signed, he didn't have a year tacked on his entry deal, which is why he's a group 1. Everyone acknowledges this except a couple bad writers that don't know what they're talking about.
Evolving Wild (trash guesswork), has him at a .2% chance of signing a 1 year deal. A lot of group 1 RFAs sign 1 year deals. They have him at 6 years and 7 million. That doesn't say anything about a 2 year deal. A 2 year deal is a totally different world of contract negotiations.</div></div>
Group 1 "Literally" mean's you're still on your ELC...McAvoy is not, he is now a group 2 RFA...Where are these plethora of people who acknowledge BS? even CapFriendly doesn't as they have him as RFA coming off his ELC...Also for Evolving Wild...try scrolling over to the right a bit and see what they project salary wise for each year term.

"In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC with a
Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season
under that SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry
Level System shall be extended for a period of one (1) year, except that
this automatic extension will not apply to a Player who is 19 according to
Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September 16 and December
31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club
expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an
additional year in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC,
with the exception of Signing Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary,
games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses, shall be extended; provided,
however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be extended in all
circumstances.
He was 19 so exempt and he has a December Birthday

Unless they take a home team discount, Mcavoy will get about 5.5M on a 2 year term and Carlo about 2.6M. That's about 2M difference not 4M.

Maybe send them Caufield to reunite with Hughes. :hushed</div></div>
If they would do it sure, but Drouin currently has much more value than Caufield.
I like your Idea of making the picks conditional upon Hall re-signing. I think the Habs are still a solid team minus those assets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>Of course teams have scouted him. But when he's never played on anything other than Olympic sized ice rinks, people are wary of paying a big price for him. Teams for the most part are reluctant to trade 1sts and risk not having one if it doesn't pan out. Why do you think Winnipeg wanted theirs back so badly?</div></div>
Scouting means they project the player's potential in the NHL. Team's that are rebuilding are wary of their first, but the goal is to win the cup. If a few team's think that Gusev can be the piece that makes them a contender (i.e. turning their powerplay into more of a threat) then a first will be a small price to pay.

Team's will have scouted him already, I mean a lot of team's have full time scouts in the KHL. There will be a bidding war if team's really like the player, and if that happens it will likely be a first going the other way.

Look, Habs fans have biases towards their players and Canes fans have biases towards theirs. I'm pretty sure that I have exaggerated the trade in the Canes favor, but that's what it would take to pry a Defenceman that we need from a team that doesn't want to part ways with.

Like I said, to us Habs fans this is an overpayment, but look at the Carolina fans reaction above. Carolina needs an incentive to part with their top Dman (because they don't want to give him up) and Slavin is a player that would put Montreal over the top I think. I think Poehling can develop quicker into what Danault is already, maybe one to 2 seasons away.

It's subjective. Slavin is definitely underrated and what he does on the ice is not represented by his points. Carolina doesn't really have anyone to replace Slavin's minutes unless they think Fleury and Bean are ready, but Habs fans will think this is an overpay because they understand that Romanov and Caufield are some of Mtl's top prospects and will be part of the core moving forward. Carolina fans probably don't know who those players are yet and so they see this as a trade for Danault and "throwaway pieces".

Another Drouin Attempt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>Drouin is a complete player who couldnt be trusted to play Top 6 minutes during the final playoff push for the Habs bc hes weak defensively....right thats a complete player. Just rock solid who does it all, oh right he is the opposite. You compare Drouin to top end elite offensive players who may score well beyond Drouin and are better defensively than drouin as well....Marner is 10 times the more complete player, Marner even kills penalite, whens the lat time Drouin has been asked to do that?
Oh right Drouins issue was he was just too strong, thats why he disappeared for the last 23 games of the season...do you realize that players lose weight during the season hahah, Drouin bulkd up and he was just too big . That might be the funniest excuse I have ever heard on this site</div></div>
Lol his issue was stamina is too far fetched for you...ok there, case in point Kessel. “Players lose weight during the season” ...Einstein here...what i’m Saying is he trained for a different purpose, you know, like athletes do sometimes ( or do you not know sports) a soccer player is not going to train like a football player...a linebacker is not going to train like a quarterback....and...wait for it....a center is not going to train like a winger...BINGO. Drouin’s offense fell off and that was why he was relegated to 3rd line minutes....The defence portion was irrelevant because the coach was trying to get his offense back going. It was a poor decision because KK was losing steam in his first full season as well...he should have been paired with Domi and Shaw.
