I literally just picked a random team.

Lafreniere and an Offer Sheet
I've never seen an offer sheet that wasn't an overpay, that's the whole point to ensure the other team can't match. But for the purposes of this roster I just went with the highest total that could fit under the cap to see if they could make an offer sheet work.

At the end of the day 1st and 2nd years pros are exempt according to the FAQ on this site and in two seasons Suzuki and Poehling will be 2nd years pros, therefore anyway you want to cut it they won’t have to be protected.</div></div>

I believe the reason is that even though the expansion draft will take place after Suzuki and Poehling have played their 2nd seasons they will still be considered 2nd year pros until they play 11 games in their 3rd season, at which point they would then be 3rd season pros. Kinda confusing I guess, but it makes sense when you think about it.

No. I can't begin to explain how it works and I get what you are saying and that it seems confusing. But all the articles I have read say those two will be exempt no matter what happens the next two years. Also it wouldn't matter if they played in Laval or not because its not an NHL season, it's a professional season which is any NHL Standard Player Contract, so seasons in the AHL and ECHL would count.

So it just occurred to me that you can do a mock expansion draft right on this website. Just go to that page and scroll down to the Habs and you will see that both Suzuki and Poehling are on their exempt list.

I'm not going to sit here and argue with you buddy, but yes I'm sure. If you don't believe me just check with all the experts, a simple goggle search should do it.

Suzuki and Poehling could both play in the NHL this year and neither of them would have to be protected in the expansion draft.

Buying out Alzner and running with the youth for 2021 season
So oddly, buying out Alzner next year still doesn't make sense. His cap hit in the 20-21 season would be 3.9mil if you buy him out but if you bury him in the AHL his cap hit is 3.5mil.

HABS back in the Playoffs
Definitely very close to the cap but 23 is the roster max not the roster min, so you don't have to add another 3 players. But yeah it would be great if you could get EK and Duchene for less so you could have money to have those other players on the roster. If its true that Montreal is on EK's list because his wife wants to be closer to home then maybe he takes less to sign there, but if anything MTL would have to overpay to get Duchene.

HABS for the Cup
Here are some thoughts on my own team:
-Haters can hate, I have no problem with that. But in today's NHL you can go from terrible to playoff contender in just one year. So just because the HABS are terrible this year doesn't mean Tavares won't come here. But just because he's friends with Price and Weber doesn't mean he will come. It's probably a long shot, but here's hoping lol.
-I still like Patches and think he can still bring a lot. Give him a true #1 C like Tavares and he becomes a 40 goal scorer. If you want to take the C away from him, fine, but you'll never get what he's worth in a trade.
-The only way you get a 2nd C like Stastny or maybe a cheaper Bozak (and Tavares obviously) is by trading Shaw. I like Shaw and the type of player he is but not at $3.9. However I'm not sure if you can trade him without taking money back. I just randomly made that trade, open to suggestions on it. Also not sure if Stastny signs for $6 mil, not worth $7 mil in my opinion, but wouldn't be surprised if someone gave it to him.
-Obviously the first D pairing only happens if we win the draft lottery, if we don't, we are still gonna add a good player that could play for us next year (I really like Tkachuk). Even if we do get Dahlin, our D is still probably gonna be shaky and really young, so hopefully Price is back to his old form lol
Those are my thoughts, let me know what you think, open to suggestions.
