Shoring up the middle
Think there is the basis of something here, despite protests on both sides. Chytil's likely to get 4M+. Think the Rangers will have to give up one of Chytil, Laf, Kakko, or Miller and Goodrow to fit contracts next year.
Rasmussen as big, defensive 3C, and Veleno as 4th line center is not awful at all. Could also see value from Red Wings end, looking at Chytil to try to unlock Zadina and team with Kubalik. He's stepped up his game this year.

The Obvious Add
Some team is going to take a chance on JVR. Think some team would offer more. Maybe the Leafs aren't willing to pony up enough, but I wouldn't mike JVR back as a Leaf.
If he was acquired. Bunting, JVR, Kerfoot, Engvall, and Knies if signed will get his 10 games in to burn off a year of ELC. That's pretty stacked.

Ready to contend
Isles would probably take that, Lyub would be a solid RD3 to replace Mayfied if Grant Hutton isn't the guy (he's probably not the guy)
It's also scary to look at this team and see how much cap space they have - even after spending more than $20M in signings, and bringing more expensive players (Boeser & Roy), they still have enough room to either add any rental they want without retention, or even take a useful player for peanuts off a capped out team's hands (a la the Oliver Bjorkstand trade).
Goalie is the only issue here, but I see you've got Devon Levi in the AHL and if he turns out to be the guy...hooooo boy

are either of these trades realistic
if we move a first round pick for Scott Laughton, I would be extremely disappointed. I want nothing to do with the term of that contract, he doesn't really solve any aspects we would be that interested in an upgrade for. Doesn't bring a 1st rounder of additional value over Engvall that's for sure.

Depends IMO. If you have a very strong offensive D man who struggles at actually playing defense, then a stay at home pairing is a good fit. You could go with two players that are above average at both ends and in the neutral zone as well, or you can have two guys that excel at one end and compliment each other to balance it out. I know that's over simplifying with logic, but you get the point.

Murphy is on a very good contract, one of the better deals for a defender in the NHL. Big and physical stay at home defender and has no problem playing top line minutes; extremely good player just not flashy or isn't going to put up a bunch of points...I believe he has 70% D zone starts which is what he's good at. He'd make a good pairing with Reilly IMO.

He's a very solid stay at home defender, very physical and a top 4 guy on almost all teams, top 2 on thinner teams. He's very good, but not a two way defender.

wait seriously??? he’s a HUGE solid D who provides a little offensive upside and could easily play top min with Karlsson pushing ferraro to 2nd pairing where he should thrive! this would be a slam dunk especially since we need to find a forward spot for Gushin after his pre season!

Interesting Idea, but I think a couple of these moves don't make sense. Gabe Carlsson is going to struggle to even get an NHL spot so I can't see him as a top pairing guy getting a pay raise this offseason, I'd replace him with Fehervary on the 1st, and shift Orlov to pairing 2 and Alexeyev to pairing 3. Also can't see Alexeyev getting that much of a payday since I think Washington is going to force him to the AHL for one more year in favor of Johansen.
Also on the defensive side, I can't see Washington paying 3 mil for Drouin or bringing in Sanford and Gudas instead of giving raises to Jensen and Hathaway as they also bring some chemistry to the locker room and shouldn't be asking for too much of a pay raise, especially Hathaway considering Dowd only received a 400K raise. With guys like Snively, Protas, and Jonsson-Fjallby on the bench, I think 1 of them or Oshie could slot in on the 3rd instead of Drouin.
I do like the extensions for Fehervary, Orlov, and Strome as long as he plays well, though I don't know if they will be able to get Fehervary on that team-friendly contract length.

Win now next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>If Sharks aim for a rebuilding period, I wouldn’t worry too much about R/L, especially for a wing.
I hear you on futures for current players discussion, but I do not think Meier would return a prospect that projects to be as good or better than him. Make a list of the top-25 or so prospects in NHL and you’d be pretty safe to assume none of them are available.
My rough back of envelope list: Power, Hughes, Beniers, Edvinsson, Nemec, Cooley, McTavish, Wright, Sanderson, Slafkovsky, Byfield, Quinn, Holtz, Perfetti, Eklund, Johnston, Guenther, Coronato, Jiricek, Wallstedt, Reichel, Johnson, Savoie, Clarke…(probably forgetting some obvious ones).
Then add in top rookies/young players like Seider, Zegras, Raymond, Jarvis, Lundell, Mercer, Byram, Boldy, Caufield, Knight, Schneider…etc and you can get a pretty long list of untouchable players.
Aim for a return like Minnesota got from Los Angeles for Fiala (Faber and 1st) and it would be realistic.</div></div>
well the hope is he signs long term and we don’t have to bother looking for a trade.
i would expect a better return for Meier than Debrincat or Fiala, but your right not much more.
and when rebuilding you want a bunch of players fighting for spots, but you also have to make sure you have a balanced depth. this is easier to accomplish in trades, in the draft you grab the best available because you never know what you’ll have in 2-3 years when that player is NHL ready.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>But hes a LW and the Sharks don't need any more LW or LHS guys.
And the rest of the guys you mentioned we have prospects that are comparable, if you trade a top line 35 goal scoring wing who is only 25 you need a Prospect and a 1st that will change your trajectory.
when trading a guy in his prime for futures the futures have to have the potential to far outweigh the piece you move otherwise it's not worth it.
The team getting the player in his prime is almost guaranteed a level of production where the team getting futures is getting a high upside bet. this works because your giving up production now for future production.
in this case NJD hope is Holtz or Mercer become as good as Meier, but better is a stretch. thats why the 1st is important.</div></div>

Not challenging that bolded part but I was actually just wondering how his games lost compares to McDonagh's so I looked up their stats to compare. Here is what I found:
'89 Muzzin 6'3" 226 lbs LHD $5.625 23/24 (NTC)
19/20 53gp 6g 17a 23pts 109hits
20/21 53gp 4g 23a 27pts 101hits
21/22 47gp 3g 11a 14pts 105hits
'89 McDonagh 6'1" 215 lbs LHD $6.75 25/26 (NTC)
19/20 50gp 1g 11a 12pts 36hits
20/21 50gp 4g 8a 12pts 69hits
21/22 71gp 4g 22a 28pts 96hits
McDonagh (NTC) with 4 years left @ $6.75 per year was traded WITH NO RETENTION for P Myers (buyout candidate) and Mismash (a poor AHL prospect)
Anyone here really believe Muzzin (NTC) is untradeable? Really? It could be for a buyout candidate and a prospect with really no chance for the NHL but it is still a trade without retention.
