Why would either pasta or San Jose want this?

I truly think if pasta hits free agency the sharks could pursue him. That being said if they were to pursue him they would want to keep Meier. because adding pasta and losing Meier does nothing for the team. I think you try and move couture if they can to free up some space.

Why would pasta pick them, why would San Jose want him? Makes no sense.

If Pasta hits the open market he's going to be over $11 million easily. Its not very often 27yr old elite goal scorers hit the market.

If they are paying him well, why not? Weather is nice, quality of life is good.

If the pick number is known, then that means this is done before draft, but after the season (and before Meier is no -tendered) But there is no extension in place, so Sharks are basically trading UFA rights.

So it’s a no go from NJD.

Maybe late pick, but nothing like this if he is not extended.

Hes not going to have a problem getting 10.5 elsewhere. He’d probably get that in Boston.

San Jose is very likely to be bad for the majority of this contract.

Taxes also suck.

Why would Gaudreau pick Columbus? Sometimes things just happen. I know the sharks after missing the playoffs again this year will look to make a splash. Czech connection with hertl as well

Columbus is a heck of a lot closer than San Jose.
Columbus was also a landing spot due to proximity to where his family is from (he was pretty open about that).
I don’t think the ohio tax is as brutal as the California tax.

In other words, there are a lot of reasons that made sense. I see zero reasons why San Jose makes sense.

Over the last 5yrs old 4 player have more goals. He also is 15th in points over the last 5yrs and he'll 27yr old this summer. With the cap expected to increase, he easily gets over $11 million.

I'd imagine most teams would bid between Gaudreau's deal and Huberdeau's number (unless someone backs up the money truck for him).

For much of the last five years, he played on good team on many called, "the perfect line". When he wasn't, he was paired with former MVP.
I don't know, does that dampen the expectations that he could replicate elsewhere?

Also, hard to predict anyone would "easily" become highest paid at their position.

I'm guessing around $10 million, +/- $500k.

Oh yeah this team totally needs to be investing into a winger for term. no way they need to be focussing on getting younger or anything.

Neither of those two guys have led the national hockey league in goals. When was the last time a guy thats won the Richard hit UFA at 27. He should be above both of them.

Taylor Hall won a Hart trophy and only got $6 million a couple years later.

$9.5m to $10.5m are huge offers. I don’t see many competitive teams going much higher.

I’ll ask again - how many 27 year olds that have won the Richard have made it to UFA.

Hall didn’t get his contract in UFA. He also signed during a pandemic season. Theres just really no comparison there.

Again disagree, Gaudreau just put up 115 points and 40 goals, he got 9.5M. I'm not saying he cant or wont get over 11 but it's certainly not a lock

Pasta isn't taking anything less than $11,000,000 on the open market.

Cold day in hell before Alex Nedeljkovic signs with San jose, He chose Detroit for a reason. It's home and his wife is a nurse at a local Detroit hospital. There is no way that Ned signs with San jose especially not for that garbage low ball offer anyways.

How convenient the Vlasic goes on three years. Probably much better than Jersey signs Pasta themselves or spends big money instead of giving up a high first rounder than Meier
