Just for kicks Out of the box idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Well our #1 RHD means that he's is in FACT a #1 RHD. Probably and admittedly would be behind Brodie because MR and TJ are playing really well together.</div></div>
I guess by that logic, Lybushkin is a #1 RHD? He plays on the top pairing with Reilly. Think most people would agree with that fact? Of course not, because he isn't one. He's slotted there because he plays well with Reilly.

you can if thats your cup run this year. next year i understand having to move on but unless you are getting an upgrade at the deadline on monahan wouldnt you just keep what you have, already salary cap compliant...

i dont think monahan gets moved this year. calgarys forward group is incredibly deep. they have a decent shot to go on a cup run. that being said, offseason i could totally see them trying to move on from monahan maybe even include some retention to get an asset back.

I would even think about removing Liljegren in the deal, Leafs are already giving up a lot. A first round pick for Severson is way too much

Miller

Of course you hold the cards...he's your player! And a good player at that...if you think his "window" matches that of the team's core...and you think you can extend him after next year- then there really is no discussion here...but I think most here believe this is not the case...so if Miller is not long for VAN- might as well sell at the top- and with 2 playoff runs left in his contract, NOW is the height of his value...might as well strike while the iron is hot- get your best deal...NYR or elsewhere! So while holding the cards- if you overplay your hand, you will probably be disappointed...Rangers fans unfortunately know how that works!

All in on Offense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Laquille</b></div><div>he would also bring a lot of stupid penalties. Kerfoot has made his case in the last playoff and this whole year how consistent he is. Very versatile. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the leafs would benefit from the passionate playing style and history that Domi would bring, but not at kerfoot expense, IMO only.</div></div>
this is a great take and i agree with you, i see a world where we can keep kerfoot and still add Domi and maybe another piece from CBJ like Texier. My original move with Kerfoot was only to Van when i had JT Miller as part of the package coming back. I love the idea of keeping Kerf cause youre right, he was great last year in playoffs and has been very consistent this year. The last couple of weeks the leafs second line has struggled and while i think JT miller could ignite that line it would cost a lot and if Kerf can stay and help them get out of their current rut im just as happy to keep him

David Kampf isnt getting traded. He's our number 1 shutdown player and has been so critical for us on the PK unit and winning crucial faceoffs. I may sound crazy here, but there's reason to believe that he's almost like a Philip Danualt 2.0.

So you honestly think that the 18th OA pick+Lucic+Vlader+Andersson equals the 1st OA pick? First off doubtful Lucic would even waive for Ottawa. And Vlader and Andersson don't move you up 17 spots.

Leafs without Reilly in 2022-2023
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Laquille</b></div><div>Totally agree with you! only thing is from a Leafs perspective, in 2-3 years the big 4 need to sign new contracts, which will see an increase in at least 3 of them. Sandin in three years is projected to be #1 defenseman in my opinion. Wonder if enough money will remain for him or what is happenning to Rielly right now will happen to Sandin in 3 years..
My thought it more : If morgan leaves, the next 2 years we have more cap space, so let's us it to maybe overpay a bit sandin but then we have 2 years of cheap deal for him, would think both sides win</div></div>
That is true. In 2 years Matthews and Nylander expire and then a year after that Tavares and Marner expire. It's gonna be a colossal mess for whatever GM we have. The team will probably end up being a lot different from what we know now.
It would be a lot more advantageous if we got Sandin signed for a long term deal given the storm that's gonna come when the Big 4 deals expire.
If I had to guess what will happen with the Big 4:
- Matthews will be extended and Nylander will probably be traded
- Marner will be extended and Tavares will either be traded or accept a much smaller deal
Although that's a dangerous topic to bring up because it'll lead to a big debate.

iF Lou was In Charge
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mauston_atthews</b></div><div>Says who? I hate these types of post because you have no idea what would’ve happened.</div></div>
Exactly.
So, one thing is for sure. Babcock would still be coach. So I highly doubt Holl is still here. It's pretty well common knowledge that Derek Ryan was plan B behind Tavares that summer, doubtful that plan would have changed. Derek Ryan on board means Babcock creates a checking line in 2018/19. This likely solidifies Connor Brown's place on the team long-term. Lou wouldn't admit to a mistake so soon, so Zaitsev is still on the roster. Marleau would have finished out his contract, so that requires a major twist to summer 2019.
Tavares not on board, slows down the rebuild, so it's highly unlikely that Muzzin is acquired at that deadline. Especially considering how Babcock felt about the trade as soon as it happened (whining that they didn't get a RHD).
Then this sets off a chain reaction that makes the team look 75% different then what you've got here.
Another guarantee, Bunting isn't on the team, he is here for Dubas/Keefe.

No it’s not. That was for the NYI. The leafs and the NYI are not the same team, there’s no way to tell what he would’ve done. I don’t mind guessing and making a prediction but don’t say this is what he would’ve done because you cannot know that.

I would if Kase proves himself to still be skilled. Spezza has lost a lot of speed, but his skill and vision remains (at least it did last year). But yeah Kase would be the ideal.
And yes I agree this is silly but I am stressed at work and needed a break. Lol

My Final Touches
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BallPuckFellow10</b></div><div>I am very comfortable having both Biega and Dahlström step in if there are injuries. Menell I will have to wait to see as it has been hard to find highlight of him from his pro career. I think Liljegren can move up and play with Muzzin without problem if there are injuries in the top 4 while it also would be good to see Sandin playing top 4 minutes if someone like Rielly went down. We would get a preview of what life without Rielly would look like. At the end of the day. EVERY team in the league gets worse when one of their top 4 defensemen get hurt. That is just a fact. Signing someone like Ben Hutton for extra stability wouldn't be the worst thing and then you have 4 defenders in Biega, Menell, Dahlström and Hutton that can step in if needed.</div></div>
I like Liljegren, but I'd like to see him prove he can play in the NHL before I'm comfortable with him moving up the lineup in case of injuries.
He's been great in the AHL, it really has not translated so far.
Contenders don't leave themselves open to their season being ruined by an injury to a key player.
None of the guys that have been mentioned have shown they make Dermott expendable.

I just think Dvorak has a much higher skill level than Hyman and can make better plays with the big boys and maybe finish off some of the opportunity's Hyman didn't have the touch for. Im open to keeping Hyman but I think Marner needs another option to pass too that can finish other than Matthews.

Dave Poulin
It all depends on Danault and what he beleives his role is. On paper you have him as a 3C in reality he plays more minutes than that.
In comparison Lowery is 7th in TOI out of Jets fwds, 8th 5v5, 9th PP time, and 1st in SH time. That is a 3rd line deployment
Danault on the other hand is 2nd in TOI out of Canadiens, 2nd in 5v5, 10th in PP time, and 1st in SH Time. He is playing a heavy top 6 minutes game
Danault has the resume to go to market and ask for Top 6/2C money. If he gets it, who knows
