OILERS 2022-2023
Anaheim is going to retain $15 million for that? Really? A team whose internal cap is probably $77 million?

On LTIR, you don't accrue cap space, so it doesn't make sense to hold on to Kassian. I could see him packaged with a pick, or bought out as his cap hit on buyout is only $667k for next season.
To take full advantage of LTIR, you need to be at cap, so having $2.2m unused doesn't help. I'd find a way to use it.
If you want to accrue cap space, I could see them moving Klefbom's contract with a pick to a team that's already in LTIR. If his contract is insured, no dollar impact to the team taking him on.
If all you get for Puljujarvi is a 3rd and 7th, I would hold on to him, and not sign a player like Phil Kessel. Puljujarvi looked good until Covid, and I don't value a 3rd and 7th at all.

I don't think that the Kassian trade is unreasonable. But then again, I've been fighting moronic Jake-Muzzin-back-to-Los-Angeles trades all day, so maybe I'm just worn out.

The way Kane perfomed this season and in the playoffs ..... he's going to get at least $5.5M AAV, maybe more.

We take Barrie if we can keep that 5th. We got enough money next year, and let's be honest, no UFA except maybe Letang is signing to MTL this summer.
Maybe we can flip Barrie for something if he's good next year?

Edmonton Oilers signed Markus Niemeläinen (2 Years / $762,500 AAV)
What's crucial about this to me is that year one is a two-way deal. He and Broberg still having waiver eligibility suggests Edmonton can split their usage in Edmonton and in Bakersfield while also binging in a longish-term upgrade at LHD.

Thread:
Who adds and how much
Edmonton adds Zadina and Namestnikov in an effort to boost depth scoring and not waste another year of prime McDavid and Draisaitl (Holland also trying to save his own job). Zadina is a cost controlled buy-low add. Holland drafted Zadina due to his high level scoring potential and by putting him on a line with McDavid or Draisaitl it give Zadina his best chance to reach that potential. Edmonton also gets out from under Smith's 2023 contract and adds some depth on the blueline.
Detroit takes on 3 cap dumps as an extra cost to add a potential 2C/3C in Holloway and a top4 LD in Broberg.
With that said, who would have to add and how much to make this work for both sides?
