Raw point totals don't bare that out. Voracek is on pace for 96 points this season while ROR is trending towards 56. I like ROR and center is the more valuable position but let's be real here. Elite playmakers are not cheap. Now if the argument is that Buffalo is tanking again and want picks and prospects only... fair enough. But don't be shocked if Eichel starts making noise about his best years being wasted with constant tanking and rebuilds.

Filling holes...that's what she said!
So who would fit the bill as an experienced shut down right handed defenseman? That won't break the bank. The Flyers need a steady stay at home defensemen to partner with Sanheim while he adjusts to the NHL. They have a ton of d prospects but I don't think they have the proper veterans to mentor them and cover some of the rookie mistakes they are going to make as they settle in. Provorov and Gostisbehere are a solid first pairing. Gudas despite being a solid second pairing veteran needs an adult to keep him from doing something stupid so isn't the best choice to mentor kids. And the less said about MacDonald and Manning the better. Meanwhile Sanheim, Hagg, Morin, and Myers are all pretty much NHL ready with 3 of the 4 sitting in the minors. Something has got to give.

Appreciate that. I am not totally familiar with the Oilers but I thought the narrative was they were still searching for a second pairing RHD. And despite the salty garbage he had to carry all season in defensive partners Gudas is pretty solid. And yeah the big ask in Puljujarvi and the pick was for eating the extra 6 million for a couple years. But I definitely get not wanting to trade two Right Wingers for one even if by advanced stats Simmonds is massively better than Eberle. You guys are competitive already and still building so I would be careful about trading youth also.

Congrats on the #2 pick, big accomplishment for the Flyers, they'll get an absolute stud down the middle.
But I don't see Mason coming back. I think the Flyers would be wise to bring another goalie in, maybe Marc-Andre Fleury (as weird as that may look). To me, someone like him is the perfect fit. He won't be there forever, but he'll keep the team in contention while they wait for one of Stolarz/Hart to take the #1 job full time. I'm curious to see what you think of something like that, being a die-hard Philly fan</div></div>
MAF would be a decent fit but I would absolutely lose my mind if the Flyers helped the Pens out by trading for him. If he doesn't waive his NMC the Pens have to either expose Murray which they won't do or buy him out. Let the Pens twist on this one. No teams should help the Pens out by trading for MAF until after the expansion draft. And by then he will probably have been bought out and not cost anything to pick up.
Honestly though I don't think this team competes next year anyway with all the youth on defense and the lack of talent in the bottom six. I would be okay riding the Neuvirth/Stolarz combo to another high draft pick next year then be ready to really compete 2018/19 when a lot of the prospects are a little more seasoned. I think I posted here before next year the team should "Suck for Brady Tkachuk".

c'mon dude. We need a real goaltender. No more Mase. Let it go</div></div>
Ya because a goalie that wins 26 games with one of the worst D in the league is a bad goalie...clearly you don't know much about hockey.</div></div>
Mason wants longer term and assurances the team won't be able to give him with all of the prospects coming up over the next few years. Plus at some of his late season interviews he threw teammates and coach under the bus. Not being there I don't know the situation but it has to be a little uncomfortable in the locker room after some of the things he's said publicly. When a serviceable but not stellar starting goaltender starts dictating terms for his usage to the coaching staff and management it might be time to move on. All that being said I would like him back on a two year bridge but that isn't what would be best for his career and he needs to look out for himself in his next contract.
Also in the above scenario why is the team giving up a fourth for Vegas to take Read. The only guys exposed to Vegas are players we would barely miss. If they don't take Read they will have to take Raffl, Cousins, Weise, Bellemare, Laughton, Manning, MacDonald, or Neuvirth. The only real loss would be Weal if the Flyers don't sign and protect him before the expansion draft. Don't throw away picks protecting 4th liners the team needs to move on from anyway. And while Read is overpaid he is on the last year of his contract and the Flyers don't need the cap space for a year or two for some of their expiring ELCs and Simmonds next contract. I would honestly prefer they not have excessive cap space next year to prevent another Weise type signing.

Flyers trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>
So here's a question then. Think back at how you felt about Ghost last year. There was a pretty similar thought for him as Provorov this year...keep in mind Philly isn't my team...BUT I'd dare to say even more! Provorov isn't in the top 7 in Calder consideration on any Calder Memorial tracker (outside of Philly) that I've seen. Ghost had pretty serious consideration to win the whole thing last year!</div></div>
That is mostly because Calder voting is skewed towards scoring. Ghost is a much better offensive defensemen than Provorov. Provorov is a much better all around player than Ghost. Even at his best last year nobody thought Ghost was the best defenseman on the team. Just really gifted offensively and an exciting player to watch on a somewhat boring roster. This year almost nobody argues that Provorov is already the best defenseman on the team. (To be fare they did field some real weak Dmen this year so take it with a grain of salt.) And that is as a 19 year old when Ghost was a 22 year old rookie.
None of this is to put Ghost down but he is what he is. And while not the defensive liability some of the fan base like to label him as he isn't the complete player Provorov is. Ghost is phenomenal at certain aspects of the game while Provorov seems to excel at everything. This is all just my opinion and to be fair Provorov could have an even worse sophomore slump than Ghost. I just don't think the team would be willing to give up on a blue chip young defenseman like Provorov and trade him until they were sure exactly what his ceiling was.
Personally I am not so far gone as to think a Provorov/McDavid trade is equal value. I just think with this franchises need for a defensive anchor to build around that he will be valued way above what any other team would be willing to give up for him.

He is pretty much universally considered the only untouchable on the current roster. And while the team is stacked with defensive prospects other than Ghost and Provorov the four best prospects have a combined two games of NHL experience. If you wanted Ghost and a pick for Panarin that would probably work for the Flyers but Ghost is due a raise next year which wouldn't work for Chicago. Morin, Hagg, Sanheim, or Myers would fit Chicago's salary cap but are completely untested in the NHL so you would probably end up asking for some major sweeteners to do the deal. And depending what you ask for the Flyers with as conservative as Hextall has been will probably pass. Like I said I like the thought just not with Provorov.</div></div>
Yeah, I hear ya. I did think about the Ghost trade, but due to his salary it would have to include some other major pieces, possibly even Morin or Konecny, which is worse for PHI than just Provorov hence why I didn't do it. Ghost is probably due a $4.5M salary and that's not a real decrease in cap which is what CHI needs. I'm just looking at how much Panarin would help Giroux! They'd be a LETHAL combo!</div></div>
Agreed. But part of the problem is psychology. Philly acquired Pronger and thought they had a keystone defenseman to build around for years. Then he had that freak injury and his career was over. They have been scuffling to find that cornerstone top defensemen for years. Now it looks like they finally hit on one with Provorov. I just don't think they ever let him go in a trade unless one of the other prospects surpasses him or it is something ridiculous like McDavid coming back.
A Ghost/Morin combo trade would not be out of the question since they are both LHD even though Ghost plays on the Right side. The Flyers need RHD as they only have one (Gudas) on the current roster and one prospect (Myers). So letting two of the lefties go is possible but would be really expensive.

Yeah the Calgary trade hurt but I kept imagining Provorov with Hamilton instead of MacDonald and felt better about it. That just screams dominant first pairing for the next decade. And yes the lines aren't really optimized but they are throwing some of the older mid-level prospects out their to see what they have.
Fair enough with Aube-Kubel he was a massive disappointment every time I saw him in Lehigh this year. I took him out and let read have the spot. Keep in mind part of this is to see what they have in some of the older prospects and the other part is a little bit of a one year stealth tank.

Based on...? I am not saying you are wrong but would like to know what your reasoning is. They have to many top six right wingers and are weak on left wing. Why not try the left handed Voracek at left wing for a bit. He has done it before, admittedly very rarely, and had some success. If you don't think that Voracek, Giroux, and Simmonds play a complementary style fair enough. But to start the season what does it hurt to give it a shot and see what happens? Honestly if any of the lines were going to be questioned I would have thought the second line would have been the one with Cousins playing that high up. .

It works cap wise since Silfverberg and Vatanen make 8,625,000 combined. The problem is they have 2 and 3 year terms left respectively while Jake has 7 years at that cost. This would be their fourth high money long term contract and would lock the Ducks in cap hell for a long time. And Voracek would be the youngest of the four long term contracts at 28 years old the others are all over 30.

The problem is MacDonald's contract and his usage. The 4th's are to take 3 years of $5 million Cap hit for a bottom pair defenseman. And unfortunately the Flyers coach insists on playing MacD with Provorov dragging the kid down. I would give up more to ensure MacDonald doesn't hinder the kids development any more than he already has. Nothing personal against MacDonald. Seems like a really nice guy and has been really professional given all the ups and downs over the last couple years. I wouldn't even mind him as a 7th Dman but the coach insists on giving him top line minutes over better players so he needs to go. And the contract is an obstacle that requires the overpay.

The Edmonton trade is in favor of the Oilers. A lottery pick (13th Overall), Jake Voracek, a decent goalie prospect, and a veteran forward for Leon Draisati and a bag of pucks.
Personally, I would only do the Montreal trade, the most realistic IMO. I would definitely do the Arizona trade in a heartbeat. The others, IMO, seem suspect to happen</div></div>
That's fair.
The few times I saw Ceci play he looked flat out bad and I thought they were souring on him. So I was looking for him to get a change of scenery bounce back. If that isn't the case eliminating him from that trade is no big loss.
Arizona might be overvaluing Crouse as he has bust written all over him right now. But again eliminating him from that trade isn't a big loss as there are kids on the Phantoms who could take 4th Line LW right now .
As for Draisaitl I hope you are right about me overvaluing him but I think with Jake's contract and Draisaitl's upside he is going to cost a fortune. But if he could be had for less great.

Before his injury last year Del Zotto was more than just a puck mover he was their best defenseman driving play and locking it down defensively. It is just this teams luck that all of their UFAs decided to crap the bed this season and drive their trade value down. That being said he is still only 26 and has shown he can be a very valuable second pairing borderline top pairing defenseman. There is just the risk of inconsistency. If there was no risk involved he would be worth a lot more than Franson. You are right about the advanced stats and I am honestly not sure about whether Del Zotto is regressing or it is more of Hackstol's mismanaging his talent. Worse case they should still flip him for at least some draft picks. No way you let him play out the string and walk for free.

Why not expand this to a three team deal or at least add another component? The Flyers go out and acquire another center to package with Giroux instead of Konecny who barring a major change is a winger now. For instance the Flyers could get someone like Girgensons from Buffalo, Lazar from the Sens, or even Hanzal from the Yotes. Depending who the second center is would determine if there needs to be a bump in the compensation coming back.

I hate to break this to you but this is a fan site where fans throw out ideas for trades they would like to see. And if you think Flyers fans are the worst on here with overvaluing their own players you obviously haven't been paying attention. Try not to call out an entire fanbase just because of your bias. If the trades being suggested offend you and you are tired of commenting on them here is a novel thought...don't.
That being said Raffl & Hagg for Manson causes Cap issues for the Ducks so wouldn't fly. Streit at 39 is a rental and not getting a 2nd. Weise is a borderline terrible contract that the team is going to have to eat or pair with a decent asset to get rid of. Tampa needs defensive help so a foreward and picks probably doesn't get you anywhere with them. As for the CBJ trade don't really know enough about Bjorkstrand to care. Generally though these TDL rentals are traded for picks and not established prospects.
Just my thoughts.

That is kind of the point. By the time all of the Defenseman are up and seasoned and one of the goalie prospects pan out G, Jake, and Simmonds are well into their 30s and 2 of them will still have years left on big money contracts. Unfortunately those contracts also make them hard to flip for high end prospects. Also like I said in the notes this wasn't a serious trade. I just wanted to see what it would look like. And honestly I don't think the line up is any worse after the trade.
Realistically what is fair value for G and Jake. With those contracts and that many years left at there respective ages what could the Flyers get for them?
