He blocks shots because he gets shot on a pile, he hits because he doesn't have the puck much and he also gets scored on a tonne, been on the ice for a quarter of the Islanders goals against. He's a 3rd pair defenceman on the Islanders. He has zero puck skills and how would that work in a puck possession system? It would take about 4 games for the "we need a big slow pylons stay at home defender" crowd to get furious with him because all he does is dump the puck deep and chip it off the glass. Keefe demands possession and he is one of the worst fits for that system there is. This isn't being a homer, it's understanding how the Leafs play and how players would fit into that. If you want to possess the puck you don't get defenceman who literally never do.
Many like to point to Bogosian as proof that we need a big stay at home hitter but what did he accomplish? He was easily the worst defenceman and player on the team who routinely made plays that lost us possession. But he hits!!!!! Too many video game players on here.</div></div>
Mayfield is better than Bogosian, Mayfiled plays over 20 mins a night. 3rd most on the Islanders. mayfield is cheaper than 2 Mil.
It has been shown that the system and style does not work in playoffs. Goals are scored in front of the net a lot during playoffs. So you need guys to move them out.
Also if you thinkHoll is a greta possesion D man your CRAZY. Its the skill upfront that does the leg work in the possesion game due to have much skill they have upfront.
NO point of arguing it anymore, as your a one way mind that the Lefas have the best players in the NHL.

Makes smart plays and keeps it clean. I'll take that all the time. Many fools on here want every player to be eye popping awesome. You don't ever have a full team of amazing players. It's a cap era, you need value and a 2 million dollar top 4 defenceman who does well with Muzzin in a shutdown role is terrific. He's so much better than he gets credit for.</div></div>
Your the guy that keeps saying Mayfield is garbage. Who’s under 2 Mil, plays heavy game and 20+ mins a night. A guy that can actually move a guy out front. A guy who’s not flashy. But yet he’s garbage to you. Your just straight up
The biggest homer on this site.

Better than the past couple of years but generally below average. Holl has been better and he was really good last night. Manson wouldn't have made a difference. TO would have dominated him as well. Lindholm is your best defenceman and every Leaf line completely dominated the run of play. Holl was part of that and was very noticeable.</div></div>
This is so laughable and such a homer.
I’m a leafs fan but can’t stand this. Holl was a healthy scratch this year .. and two years ago he could not even get in the lineup …. No Holl did not help run and dominate the game. Watch the core 4 control the puck .. Holl does nothing and Manson would be an upgrade

Overpay for Chiarot in this trade, however unlike most leafs fans, I think he would be a significant upgrade to the D core and much needed size and grit out front of the net.

He's big and strong and clears the net okay but can't skate, or handle the puck. In a system where defenceman are supposed to stop zone entries, get the puck back and move it up ice under control, Mayfield would be utter trash. He's not worth anything to TO.</div></div>
Wow Big, strong defender and clears the net … sounds pretty good to me as a Dman. That is what the Leafs need.
So utter trash is crazy to say and also crazy to think Holl is better. But that said it’s the reason I love reading your comments cause you think the Leaf players are better than anyone else’s.

It does not weaken the Team, as Mayfield is better than Holl, However the Leafs are giving up a lot in all trades.
Mayfield would be a greta addition though and you get more than 1 year out of him.

Cancer or not, it's like 4 month of hockey and has one more chance. He needs to make $$ as well.
For what he will be signing for if it does not work it's no big deal. I think it's a good risk.
Wait till he scores 20 goals still playing with Mcdavid or Drasatil and what people say.

They would have 7 D with those trades still, and it's to make sure they fit into cap.
I think Dermott and Lily have been better than Holl this year and cheaper.

Ya I understand. Makes sense. Ritchie Value is crazy low right now especially for what he is making.
I was thinking of a UFA at the Deadline for the Leafs to uprgade the LW and get rid of Ritchie, to a non Playoff team with another first rounder,
It would only be one more year of Ritchie to filll a roster spot aft this too.

As for the first, it's a late first and you could possibly shed Ritchie salary. Leafs need a top 6 LW so that Kerfoo can help the third line produce offence as well.

Okay it would be a late pick for Engvall, Like i said I don't care what, just need to shed salary.
Fabbri is a UFA, so that takes away what he will get in a trade. Det could resign him next year if they wouldlike too.
There is a First round pick in that trade.

For some reason on CapFriendly, there is belief that virtually all Leaf Dmen are poor, and other teams bottom enders are so much more superior.</div></div>
Dude, TSN has said that is what they are doing. Does not mean it will happen but they definitley looked into it before some injuries happened.
They do talk to people around the league and within the team more than you would.
Leafs also have Beiga and Menell that have played NHL games vbefore so they do have a 7th D man that could fill in.

Yes your stars need to be good, but take a look at the top teams and who’s won the cup recently and check the production of that third line. Scoring Depth is necessary to win in playoffs. Leafs third line won’t do that. Kampf and Engvall are 4th liners. Soup, Kase and need a upgrade third line C.

His high danger scoring chances against stats are some of the worst in the entire league. He's a 6/7 defenceman on most teams. Including most bad ones. Holl was a good top 4 guy for the past two years and looked fine last night. We all should have known he would bounce back.</div></div>
Not sure you noticed Holl was a healthy scratch .
He was a top 4 due to not having anything else., which could be a reason they have not made it far,
Check Miller’s career stats and how he is playing this year,

Leafs do need better LW. Kerfoot is meh and is 3.5 mill which is alot for what he brings, Engvall needs to be upgraded as he is not a 3rd line. Kase could use something there and more offense could come from that line. Even if that is Kerfoot and upgrade 2nd line LW.
Lily will be good for full time and if need be they have Beiga, Menell that could fill the 6th D man role incase of injuries for now and possibly make some sort of Deadline move for depth there.
