You want secondary scoring from your 3rd line and Monahan supplies that as well as one of the better face off percentages. Who cares about a minor defensive shortcoming?
This trade though is an overpay - Monahan on his own with the cap hit is worth either Lambert or a first round pick but not both. Kovacevic is worth a 3rd round pick based on the odds of a mid to late 3rd rounder playing 45 games in the nhl

Round 1 - one month before the draft
I believe one of the teams with multiple picks in the first round - Buffalo, AZ, Montreal (probably not Columbus since their picks are early), will take a swing at the Russians around 26-32 - notably Trikozov or Perevalov. I am not convinced Jack Hughes is first round talent - prefer Owen Beck and Owen Pickering both in first round

I don't think Kulich falls that far, and will be surprised if Gaucher or Hughes go that early

Revamped Mock Draft
Jordan Dumais ranked 73rd by NHL central scouting of NA skaters - You obviously see something in him that outpaces his small stature and no one sees him as a 1st rounder in any drafts I have seen - Yes a sleeper but not 1st round as that's a reach
Tucker Robertson is not 1st round - you do present something different but that is a large reach based on McKeens or central scouting rankings
Same on Simon Forsmark - - would propose Calle Odellus or Ty Nelson / Luneau or Salmonsson if you are looking for a d-men

I think someone gambles on Gleb Trikozov around pick 29-36 for those teams with multiple picks - he’s a little better than Peravalov imo
Luca Del Bell Bulluz is probably low as is Kulich

Lane Hutson has competed in only 6 games this year at the U18 world championships- the rest of his season is grandstanding exhibition games against inferior ushl and mostly weak NCAA college teams - his body of work imo doesn’t support that ranking . Central scouting doesn’t always get it correct but Hutson is ranked 25th overall NA skaters with at least 15 euros ahead of him - I disagree that he’s the BPA. At 5-8 he appears to be one dimensional offense. We tried the small D with Victor Mete.

Post Lottery Mock Draft 2022
Wright is heads and tails far better than Cooley - take a look at their head to head in the 2021 IIHF U18 tournament - Cooley didn't even score and was outpointed by Isaac Howard. Wright led the cdn team to the gold medal over Russia with 9 goals 5 assists. Cooley and his team didn't even make it to the bronze medal game. In 2022 Cooley faced inferior competition at the U18 with a depleted Cdn U18 team (all their top U18's were with their clubs in playoffs), and the Russians weren't even there. Cooley's team gagged and won the silver medal. Cooley has played grandstanding exhibition games where points and standings don't matter against just powerhouse USHL teams (drip sarcasm) and mostly below average NCAA teams - look at their schedule. Cooley's game is elevated by a lot of good players.
Habs are loaded in their prospect pool at LHD, they don't need a small Lane Hutson. Since they also have pick #33 they can gamble on trikozov or pick a scorer like Jiri Kulich who was awesome at the U18's

Agree - I am not convinced Jack Hughes is a first round pick - I think he goes mid-2nd round. NHL central scouting is never 100% but I think they have him rated #26 NA skaters which is aobut right - with at least 10-15 euros ahead of him

I don’t see leafs gambling on Trikozov with virtually their only good pick in the draft - I see the habs gambling it since they have pick 33 and can play it safe at that point
Owen Pickering is a good player but he’s a LHD which Habs have an abundance of - I think they pick Tristan Luneau Or Salmonsson if Trikozov is taken

Guaranteed a top 3 pick for Habs - not much separation in the top 5 picks - I am not a fan of Hutson - he only played one competitive evaluation series at the U18. The rest were all trumped up exhibition games against USHL or NCAA teams where the points don't matter and he plays with a few talented players that elevate his game. Seen too many offensive defensemen that can't play defense - hello Ryan Murphy deux (12th overall - 2011)

Mid U18 Rankings with explanations
I don’t rank Cooley as high as some and put Nemec in the 2 slot. Cooley plays with a lot of talented players which elevates his game. The points , standings don’t matter for the usntdp- they just go out and grandstand in a pile of ushl ncaa exhibition games with no playoff aspirations. At the U18 any one of the USA forwards could have been chosen for the all star team yet he got it and Nazar McGroarty Howard I thought all outplayed him. Good write ups

Lane Hutson at pick 33 makes no sense - he’s undersized LHD - with Jordan Harris, Guhle, Romanov, Struble, Norlinder, Trudeau, Fairbrother, and Xhekaj in their system the need just isn’t there - you may feel he is BPA but I think they gamble here on Trikozov or go safe with Luneau

Pick 27 - I don’t see the Habs picking Bichsel - you may feel he is BPA but I think they gamble on Trikozov or someone with a higher ceiling and then pick the safety pick at #33. Also Habs have tons of LHD in their pool - Norlinder, Struble Xhejaj etc so at this level need factors in - they would be better served with Salmonsson, Alternatively Nyman, Kaskimaki

Adams' a young GM that sees success since Eichel's departure so he could get excited by it and make a rookie mistake by paying more than he should.</div></div>
I can't see Habs trading with Barfalo in the same division - if Habs trade down it would be #3 and say 27 for Columbus' 2 picks 6 & 12 or whatever - assuming the hawks don't move up to top 2 protection
