How is that "when healthy". You lose Dermot and Kerfoot and then don't have Hall for at least two weeks. Not wise of the Leafs to get rid of a top six Dman without one in return.
Really an overpay for the middling Hall

And, Marner & Matthews would still be together on the PP/PK</div></div>
I don't think it's necessary. Just look at JT's and Willy's advance metrics. They are very much playing well. Just not getting the results. This is like when Matthews just wasn't scoring in his first 4 games with Thornton on his wing, to many that meant Thornton was a hindrance and prevented him from scoring and when he got hurt and Hyman moved up Matthews went on a spree. It had little to do with Hyman in reality and was just how it bounced. Matthews has been insane all year. JT and Willy have been good as well but aren't getting the results. It'll swing back at some point and everyone will shut up about it. The effort is there, the chances are there and defensively they have been really good. These guys don't have to be 100 point players to be playing well. I fully expect them to be close to ppg players by seasons end. Hot streaks will come.

Engvall has been good too. Vesey is playing his way out of the lineup.

Right now Matthews>Eichel>Kane
Overall career Kane>Matthews>Eichel
By the time they all retire, imo, Matthews>Kane>Eichel (I have to, I'm a leafs fan) (also I still think Kane will have most cups)

My Hot Take On The Leafs This Season
I decided to make this post because I want to give my expectations and overview on the Leafs team for this upcoming season.
I actually feel pretty optimistic about this roster as in my opinion, it is the strongest and most complete team they’ve had since the rebuild finished. Although I don’t think they are as stacked as the favourites Tampa or Colorado, I do think they have enough quality on paper to be contenders and compete against other teams.
Analyzing the roster, they have an excellent forward group. All four of their big guns (Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander) are elite. This can be proven from their high production and play driving rates throughout their careers. As long as they each play at their best level, generating goals should not be an issue.
Furthermore, I feel the Leafs have built themselves to become a tougher team to play against. They now have several forwards (Thornton, Hyman, Mikheyev, Vesey, Simmonds, Anderson and Barabanov) who are known to be hardworking players. These guys will go to the dirty areas and win puck battles so that the team gets possession back. In the past, the team has always been criticized of being too soft. It seems like they went down the Tampa route to add grit.
Another area of weakness has been the Leafs’ defence. I feel it has also been strengthened this offseason. Looking at their on ice results, the top 4 (Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie and Holl) are all pretty solid. 3 of those guys are top pair level guys as they have done well in that role. The bottom pair is rather cheap but both Dermott and Lehtonen have a lot
of hype around them. Bogosian is a weak spot, but if he performs like how he did during the first 3 rounds of the playoffs for Tampa, I wouldn’t be upset.
I’m not going to talk about goaltending cuz I’m pretty confident in them. Overall looking at their roster on paper, they have all the pieces to a contender. The one glaring weakness is that they only have enough cap space to run a 21 man roster. If they struggle and disappoint like they did last season, it will be because their top guys underperformed. One of their guys (Marner) is known to be pretty lazy and cancerous. If he demonstrates his antics again it will be detrimental to the team.
Overall I think the Leafs did a great job improving their team under the flat cap circumstance but this will probably be their only chance to win a cup with this core. They have to make it count.

Under Keefe or Under Babcock

If you honestly think the organization was "happy for him" after that loss, you're nuts. Being happy for the guy who just embarrassed you is a lover's mentality.
Also while it's only one game, it was a significant moment when evaluating the Keefe era so far, and it was representative of the general lack of effort from that team throughout the season and into the playoffs. The playoff loss is a much more significant point, and was easily a worse loss than any of the Babcock series'.

If Sandin and Robertson Have Great Camps
I think Sandin is the odd man out here. For reasons you pointed out, I think that there isn't a scenario where he impresses enough in camp to win a spot, as I think it would mean having to trade someone or losing Lehtonen if they were to send him down. One possible scenario would be that there's a significant injury in camp and Sandin would open the day in the minors but as soon as they can plunk that person on LTIR then they could recall him and potentially play opening night.
If there's no AHL this year though, it'll be a shame for Sandin and Lilgren as it'll be hard for them to continue to develop. If there's special rules around a taxi squad I wouldn't be surprised if the bottom 3 leafs D get used to some sort of rotation to get them all some looks.

My canadian division standing predictions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oodz</b></div><div>The leafs fired their coach, didn’t ice their fully healthy lineup for even ONE game in the season and didn’t have marner or tavares for 6 weeks, Reilly for 2 months, muzzin for2 months and still finished 10 points ahead of u guys. Crazy to think some Habs fans think they are actual contenders and can finish top 5 in the league next year LMAO. Habs are gonna have a tough time even finishing top5 in their division, forget about the league LMAO. and in those 3 games y’all beat us in last year Andersen only played one. Your forward group is average, defense is average both possesses no superstar like the leafs. Rielly muzzin and Brodie Holl make up one of the better top 4s in the league, much much better compared to the Habs. Have fun finishing 5th in the division behind TBL TOR BOS and FLA</div></div>
Bos isn't the power house it was last year especially with Pasta and Marchand out long term. Tampa needs serious help to get under the cap by puck drop opening day or they forfeit the season, so they are going to need to drop some very good players for very very low prices. Which means they too will be less of a power house team. Florida is not going to finish anywhere near the top after losing Dadanov and possibly Hoffman for nothing. The Atlantic will be wide open and considering how well the Habs started last season at the top of the standings after 2 months with a significantly weaker team. I look forward to this season and yes I know it was a bold prediction to say that the Canadiens will finish top 5 in the league but I honestly believe they will. In fact I predict that the top 5 teams will be (Not in any particular order):
Dallas
Colorado
Toronto
Montreal
One of Buffalo, Carolina or the Rangers ironically it will all come down to the goalies for all 3. Whoever can find the best upgrade in net will win that race.

My canadian division standing predictions
I think it shakes out something like:
leafs,
canucks (serious wildcard but I have faith in demko),
oilers (even without klefbom they will be good...it’s called the mcdavid factor
jets (offence and goaltending are elite, defence is one peice/Samberg or heinola stepping into a top 4 role away from challenging for top spot)
Flames (lost Brodie but got markstrom...they are a team to watch)
Canadiens (wildcard. They improved in every facet of the game. I would rank them higher but idk why I didn’t. Just don’t believe in them tbh)
Sens (got better but not even close)
My point is that after the leafs, every team here has major question marks.
For the canucks: can demko and holtby prove to be a good tandem?
For the oilers: can they overcome losing klefbom (they couldn’t a couple of years ago) and can they continue to get average goaltending?
For the jets: can one of the kids make the d-code better or will chevy make an upgrade or will hellebuyck have to do the heavy lifting again in an elite offensive division (I ranked them at 4th because this is an easy fix that makes this team a contender for first in the division)?
For the flames: can markstrom live up to the starter role and can they overcome losing Brodie?
For the Canadiens: can the kids take the next step. Suzuki, danault, and kk are a good centre lineup but they lack a true 1c. I’m just not so sure about them. You need elite talent to get anywhere in the nhl and the Canadiens lack it. If they can bring in a guy like Hoffman, they immediately start comtemding for top spot. But as of now, I have them with the flames.
Sens: sorry but...lol

I feel like all these standing refuse to admit that on paper the Leafs actually have the best roster. They've been the best Canadian team in the regular season for the past few years (average not every year), I don't see them not winning a Canadian division. The Flames could challenge, and the Jets might make a push. But I don't see any of the other teams really contending for top spot.
