AH LOL - I must have forgotten to change team (TBH - I was looking for a Leonard trade... and couldn't find one that made sense for the Caps)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Agree with that sentiment 100%. This is the price for not going scorched earth type of rebuild unfortunately. Last year for sure was major drop off. This year however Im less worried. I know everyone is creaming their pants for Lindstrom but the truth is anyone from 3-10 is interchangeable. They all have equal potential, just different playing styles and abilities. All I ask from this mgmt is to take the BPA in their mind and not reach for a position just for need. If its a dman, take the dman.
Like I reiterated, the dman available at 5OV this year may make all other dmen in the entire organization available. Including Hutson for example.</div></div>
I would love to see Demidov or Lindstrom sneak by... but I'm realistic. Also, I agree that BPA is the way to go -> Good Dman can be leverage to get good forwards - AKA Drysdale and Gauthier.

Trading 5th OVR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Trading the 5OV for anything other than a legit, already top player, would be a bad move.
It literally makes more sense to move Guys like Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj, etc than trading the 5ov.
I think people need to hear this: The player taken at 5OV this year is likely to be the best player of all players drafted since Hughes and Gorton have been at the helm, with the exception of Slafkovsky. It makes more sense to move any player we've drafted since Slaf than to move the 5OV.
Just because 5OV is not a unanimous pick does not mean it is less valuable, so we should trade it.</div></div>
Fair enough. If we look at the 2023 draft picks after Reinbacher - a lot of people would also be happy with Benson, Michkov, Ryan Leonard.
After Slaf's and Hutson's pick - I'm starting to trust Bobrov and his picks. I just hate that we are once again outside the concensus/creme of the crop top 4...

I don't think its a weak draft - I think its a Dman heavy draft.

I can understand BUF fans not wanting to prolong the rebuild. I think the talent is there... the players just need to put it together (they would need a MSL type coach - let's hope Lindy will be up to the task).
In that situation its hard to trade for what you got vs. what could be.

Agressive for playoffs 24-25
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ht42</b></div><div>If Kent Hughes isn't able to trade the Jets pick during the Draft, I can see Hughes trading it a make that trade latter in the offseason.
Don't forget the 50 players roster and you can't have more than 23 players on the NHL roster (and don't said that sending Dvorack to the AHL is a good idea.............)</div></div>
Well we have 46 contract and you don't have to give an ELC to players rigth away. Moreover, some ELC will expire and you can always move some contracts if they don't have a high cap space.
This is terrible asset management.
You trade 2 first round pick 1 for 1.... then you add Barron, Dvorak (1 year left at a cap we can afford), 2024 2nd round pick (COL), 2024 7th round pick (WSH), 2025 4th round pick (DET)
Dvorak will not cost Barron, a 2nd and a first to Dump... and if its the case, we'll just keep him and let his deal expire - have have 20M$ in cap space and roster space. You can just WAIT a year and keep all these assets. Dvorak will play on the 3rd or 4th line.

Dvorak has got a year left... he'll be a UFA at the end of the season and we can afford to sit him, Anderson and Gally with our cap space

Future playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>In my personal opinion, this approach is too cautious like what Ottawa, Buffalo, Anaheim, Edmonton and Arizona have done for years. It's good to get fully loaded with prospects and have a deep pool but eventually you have to turn the corner and move into contention. Suzuki will be 25 heading into next season, Caufield, Dach, Newhook and Guhle will all be 22-24, we need them to start playing meaningful games down the stretch, if they make the playoffs its even better for their development as a team</div></div>
I agree, but the assets I mentionned (The WPG pick, the second round picks, the two 2025 first round picks, as well as the pick we will get for Barron, Harris, Matheson, Savard (so maybe two extra first round pick and a 2nd/3rd round pick), can all be used to pick up a decent RFA or notable "unhappy player".
Rather than wait in 2027 - I would love to see the habs acquire a Necas, Zegras, Jarvis, Quinn, Peterka, Wyatt Johnston, Rossi, Dylan Guenther (AKA a good top 6 RFA) - It just has to make sense in term of price.

Future playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Don't get me wrong, I love the look of this lineup however hedging all your bets into this many unproven young guys is very risky. I personally do not see any of Mesar, Tuch, Kapanen, Konyushkov, Engstrom or Barron as part of the Habs future lineup. I also am very hesitant to say that Dach can remain healthy enough to be considered to be part of the Habs future lineup. I do love the Iginla pick though if the top 4 are the way you have laid out. I also really love the goaltending and other 5 D corps picks, I hope we can find another Xhekaj type of D man for the 3rd pairing to make this a really tough D to play against.</div></div>
We'll have other prospect by then as well! Namely The WPG pick, the second round picks, the two 2025 first round picks, as well as the pick we will get for Barron, Harris, Matheson, Savard (so maybe two extra first round pick and a 2nd/3rd round pick) .
So, while I agreed that Mesar, Tuch, Kapanen, Konyushkov Engstrom or Barron are big question marks and that Harris and Barron are likely to be shipped out this year or the next, the potential trades and draft pick will 100% change the look of this team in the bottom six anyway.
Like - pretty sure we will get another top 15 picks next year that could end-up being another Caufield - this management has also done VERY well so far with later picks.
I don't think Dach is more injury prone that other... just terribly unlucky. What he showed last year was very encouraging and he had the best metrics offensively AND defensively of any forward on the team. And he is 23, so plenty of runway still!
This line-up is more a look in 2027:
Slaf - Suzuki - 2024 first round pick
Caufield - Dach - 2025 first round pick
X - Beck - X
X - X - X
while the D core will likely have Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher and Xhekaj as the "core" .

I just hope MTL and TML get to a similar level for a few years - those are alway great game, but it's not AS fun when one of the team is rebuilding.
Your core is approaching it's peak, ours is starting to form - I think 2026-2027 will have epic rivalry games.
