Tanking this year??
With a very good young defensive core and elite(?) young goalie, there's not much chance that this team can go into a full blown tank job even if the brain trust wanted to.

thoughts???
High floor, low ceiling is what I'm getting. Similar to picks like Lindholm and Rakell, which seemed sleepy and safe at the time, but our scouts sniffed out some untapped upside that I'm hoping Lundestrom will come to show as well.

Ducks Offseason
I don't think that's enough for Hjalmarsson. The Saad idea is pretty interesting, he brings a dose of the type of forward we need, but I think if Silfverberg is moved it'll be because of cap reasons (extending Henrique, etc.). I don't see the team wanting to take on another forward at 6 mil.

Doesn't matter now, he was released from his contract this morning. I think Grant/Wagner are perfectly adequate to handle the 4C duties next season.

I find most of this very confusing, starting with Rasmussen.

Trades with OTT, VAN, TB
I don't think the Ducks are the right team to deal for Karlsson, and while that's a great haul for EK, I don't think it has quite the high end (potential elite) aspect that needs to be there. Not sure why waiver wire pick up JT Brown belongs in there. Montour's upside is a top 4 (non-elite) offensive specialist. Jones' ceiling is probably in the mold of a more physical Krieder, but the safe bet is a middle-six complimentary winger. The Ducks 1st and 2nd will be later round picks in this scenario, so there's not huge appeal there. I just don't think EK works without Anaheim being willing to give up better value from it's current roster and prospect pool (I'm thinking one of Rakell <em>or</em> Lindholm + Sam Steel + 1st +...).
Not sure why the Ducks move Vermette if they are going for it this big. Doesn't make sense to me.
Hutton/Vanek is cool, not sure if that's enough of a package though unless the 'Nucks are blinded by desire to unite the Megna brothers :P

ANA Trade Deadline: Part 1- 31
I won't argue whether that's a fair price for EK or not, but that's too rich for Anaheim's blood. They'd have almost zero chance of re-signing him, and after giving up so much to get him, couldn't afford to let him walk summer after next, so they'd almost <em>have</em> to deal him before the next playoffs. That gives them one playoff run with him when the team currently isn't even a lock to make it, and EK is playing like a shadow of his former self. I'd pass.
Also, adding EK loses it's luster when I see Bieksa still in the lineup. That guy needs to go!

Deadline Ducks
Trading Larsson for a rental is no bueno. Nash would be great, but if we are moving a kid like Larsson, it needs to be for a defensive upgrade, and someone with term left on their deal. (Obviously that would be Larsson ++, he won't fetch an upgrade on his own)

Nash/Hjalmarson
The Hjalmarsson trade may fall a tad short for AZ. I think they'd get better offers, unless Grant was changed to a better player/prospect. Maybe Welinski + Roy? AZ might be moving Domi soon, Roy is a similar style of player and might be a decent consolation prize.
Nash + Hjal to the Ducks looks pretty though. Drool.

Beauch plays RD as well and played some of his best hockey here on the right side of Lindholm. I also worry about his ability to handle the workload come playoff time, he's already taking games off to lessen the load, those old legs have a lot of mileage.

I wouldn't want to move Ritchie for a rental, but this is a good proposal, nice job. Nash would be a killer addition.

Cole + Perron
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>moli92</b></div><div>why would vegas sell at the deadline? especially to a team in their own division. theyre 1st in the pacific, if anything they will be buyers.
same with the pens. what use to they have for players who cant help them win now? they have one of the strongest cores in the league, they should be all in for a playoff push not selling for prospects and picks. if cole is getting traded its most likely for an established NHL centre</div></div>
I expect the Knights to try and sign Neal soon, but I wasn't sure where they were at with Perron. Nobody seems to know exactly what to make of Vegas in terms of buyers/sellers, I think they'll stand pat for the most part, but I agree that the divisional thing is an issue with this proposal.
I get what you are saying about Cole, but I disagree that they'll get the established center for him, unless it's a low end guy. The only teams that would take on Cole as a rental are contending teams, and contending teams don't move out important center depth.

Cole + Perron
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ShafferPens</b></div><div>Pens have a better use of Cole than a 3rd and whomever that player is.</div></div> I thought the Pens were looking to trade him at some point this season, as he had fallen out of favor. Wasn't he healthy scratched for some games this year? If the Pens are going to keep him for added depth and let him walk this summer, I can understand that. Not the worst move as they seem to be heating up in the second half again.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyNM1510</b></div><div>Seems like an overpayment for Cole. Would rather get a bigger upgrade if we are making a move at defense.</div></div> I agree, it's a slight overpayment, but I think Cole is a bit underrated as a #5 guy. Flipping our extra 3rd this year (NJ's) + a project defenseman with intriguing upside when we still have Larsson, Welinski, and Mahura coming along is a palatable price to pay to add some stability to the 3rd pairing. I'd also rather get a Hjalmarsson or similar top four upgrade, but I'm guessing those talks start with our 1st and names like Steel and Larsson, which I don't see Murray entertaining and I hate the thought of as well.
edit: just to add, I could see Cole as a guy Murray might look to sign this summer, given that we should be free of both Beauch and Bieksa (fingers crossed). We'll have Montour plus a couple of rookies filling out half of our defense if he doesn't add another vet, this could be a good way to audition him. I was thinking of a guy like Jordie Benn as well, who might come cheaper.

The value may be in the ballpark, but it seems like a lot to give up for a rental, especially when the Ducks likely can't/won't re-sign him.

Steel
Steel isn't quite there yet, needs more polish, needs to get stronger. Also, there's no need for him once the Ducks are healthy. It's already iffy that there will be room for Roy, who has earned a spot IMO, can't see where Steel fits in. Also, agreed with the other poster, I wouldn't bet on seeing Eaves this season, but who knows for sure.

Simmonds
Love the thought of Simmonds as a Duck, his contract is friendly as well, but with the addition of Henrique, the emergence of Kase and some of the younger guys, and Eaves technically still signed for the coming years (his future is uncertain), I can't see the need for a move like this. A healthy Ducks team is pretty stacked as it is. The organization's biggest need is down the middle, especially with Getzlaf/Kesler getting older. Steel is the wrong prospect to target in a deal like this and Murray treats 1st like his own children.

selling at deadline
Cogliano (rental) doesn't bring back Miller (RFA).
The Ducks just moved out Theodore and Vatanen, zero reason to consider moving Montour. And that return value is horrendous. He fetches a similar young high value prospect, maybe not elite, but very good.
