Because you think RyJo and Kovalenko as full time second line players is good depth. Even Acciari at 3rd line is mid.
Never stated Manson was a long term core piece. You put those words in my mouth.
Because you wanna get petty over correcting someone on whether 7 teams is 1/3 league or 1/4 league, get a grip.

Plus like i already mentioned 3 mil of space with whatever amount gets sent down when we add another player. If we can't develop 2 or 3 guys out of our system to play depth pieces then we are doing something wrong in drafting and developing.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArakinSkywalker</b></div><div>A top 2 dman sure gives you a better chance at winning the cup than not having him, any way you look at it toews makes us better. at what point in the lineup above do we not have good depth? even if line 4 doesn't hit we still have over 3 mil to add our usual center depth add at the deadline.
If you are relying on manson to be a long term core i think you're going to be setting yourself up for failure. I don't think he's as good as he played when we won the cup or as bad as he played last playoffs which means your core has a 33 year old average dman only getting slower in it. If byram has any health issues there goes the depth.
7 teams isn't even 1/4 of the league, and if toews is good enough for these other teams to mortgage even more money for him and gut their teams depth why would we just let him walk? Top 2 dmen don't just grow on trees.
I think the biggest take away from what you said is going into playoffs with the attitude of good enough, that's how you get bounced like we did this year cause we thought we were good enough. If you're not the best team you can be you're not going to win the cup.</div></div>

Ritchie is 20 and will be the youngest, the rest of the guys are 22-24 range and if they're not going to start playing in the nhl why are we keeping them around. We also have just shy of 3 mil to add 2 veteran presence like i mentioned in the description so that covers the 2 that don't turn out to be full time nhlers. what else ya got?</div></div>
Entry level players. Who cares if they are 21 or 22. You’ve got all these guys with close to no NHL experience, not proven at all, slotting into full time NHL roles

Brother, is it not a red flag you are relying on <strong>SIX</strong> ELC players to make this work? Chances are at least 2 of Foudy, Oluasson, Malinski, Behrens, Annunen don’t turn out to be full time NHLers

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArakinSkywalker</b></div><div>I don't think the bigger picture is missed at all. i'd think the big picture is winning cups while we have the team to do so. No one is good forever so i think realisticly we have a good 5 years with the offense to win another cup. in the 6th year from now the forwards are over 33 and that pretty much means they will be starting to regress if they haven't already, so i'm not too worried about the 8th year on his contract.
As for your 2nd point, there are only 7 teams using the income tax calculator on this site where he would stand to make more money than colorado and they'd all have to give him the higher cap hit of 8.5 still to offset the extra year. Most of them are in the same position as we are where it's hard to bring in 8.5 mil and not gut depth somewhere else.</div></div>
Toews doesn’t make or break COLs cup winning chances in the next 2-3 years. <strong>Especially if signing him means less money to go around on signing quality depth players. </strong> A core of Byram-Makar Girard-Manson is good enough. Then you’ve got 7.5mil to add a high end top 6F piece or a quality middle 6F and a good third pairing D man. I want no part in paying Toews 7.5mil at age 34+ (for 4 more years).
7 teams is nearly 1/3 of the league. Any motivated team could easily make the cap space if they wanted.

I think we just have to hope that he wants to stay in colorado and extend the window for as long as possible. it's not like 7.5 is shortchanging him by any means.</div></div>
This is a prime example of getting so caught up in the details, that the bigger picture gets missed.
1) you consider it a prize of some sort having to pay Toews 7.5mil at age 38 in that extra 8th year of the deal?
2) you think him earning that additional 500k (about 1% on a 60 mil contract) by staying in COL matters when he could literally just sign as a FA in a state without income tax and earn that additional 4% he’d be losing to taxes in COL

Makar doesn’t PK in my scenario.
PP1 should be getting the first 90 seconds, doesn’t really matter to slot Byram over Girard for whatever remaining 30 seconds are left. The difference is negligible given how little time PP2 gets

We lost a big body with EJ leaving.. you don't want Byram and makar picking up that slack with their own injury problems</div></div>
It’s quite simple.
Makar QB PP1
Girard QB PP2
Toews-Byram PK1
Girard - whoever PK 2
To think you’d rather keep Manson for the 1 year remaining versus the multiple years of Girard is rather short sighted

Lol. I don’t disagree with you often, but we couldn’t be any further apart on this.
Girard doesn’t have the best track record health wise but Manson makes him look like an Ironman candidate with all those missed games and injuries. You think COLs D core is soft? Byram and Makar don’t shy away from playing physical. Heck, even Girards 67 hits in 76 games isn’t that bad

Jets fleeced Kings in that trade.

Put away your fancy charts for a minute and come join me in the real world for a moment.
Prior to last season, Mittelstadt had 3 consecutive seasons where he failed to play more than half of a full regular NHL season. He’s also got zero playoff experience. Before last year he only had a career high pt total of 25. Far from a 2C cup contender resume.
Then Vilardi. Career high games of 63, career high points of 41. 21-22 season had 7 points and was demoted to AHL role. 7 career playoff games experience. Don’t care what the charts say, he doesn’t have a large enough sample size to support your notion that he’s a bonafide 1st liner on a cup contender. Every bit as good as PLD? Based on what evidence? Lol PLD has 3 60 point seasons, 2 50 point seasons has a handful of seasons where he was healthy and played 70+ games. Decent playoff numbers (based on a decent sample size of 35+ games)

Never said Girard replaces Toews but you’ve got 5.6mil to fill 5 more roster spots (about 5 players making 1 mil each). Keeping Girard over Toews frees up an additional 3 mill in cap space to use on signing better players than guys on near league minimum deals.
Neither Behrens nor Gulyayev have ever stepped foot on the ice at the NHL level. To say either fills Girards shoes ( who is an above average second pairing D man) is a huuuggggeee stretch

- Shift Wood to 3LW.
- Colton will need to take a sizeable leap to be a true 2C.
- Look for Oluasson to be a factor by this time (maybe at 3LW and leave Wood at 4LW)
- Ranta probably returns from Sweden and finds a home on the 4th line too

This just further strengthens my stance that COL cannot afford to extend/resign Toews. Undo the Toews signing and keep Girard and you save yourself nearly 3mil in cap space (which you need by the looks of it).
COL fans are too spoiled. Do we all honestly think we could potentially fit 3 #1D men (Makar, Toews, Byram) on the same roster in the cap era? Lol
