Makes no sense for the blues. If we are trading buch it will be centered around a good defensive prospects. Bunting and KK hold little appeal for us

This isn't going to tempt the Blues, sorry. Draft picks and middle 6ers are not high priorities, and neither player is one they want to trade.

If cap needs to be sent out, Andersen and TDA can be sent back (TDA expires this season and Andersen might be able to be LTIRetired, who knows). The Blues would have to retain likely half on Buch or Binnington (more likely Binnington) for the Canes to really be interested. As for a package, how about Buch and Binnington (half retained) for Andersen, TDA, 2024 1st, 2025 1st, Heimosalmi and another prospect of the Blues choosing (not named Nikishin, Morrow, Nadeau, FUS, or Perets).</div></div>
I dont see much of a benefit here. Could likely get a similar package minus Andersen and TDA for Buch alone.
Not sure why we would be inclined to retain half on binnington for 4 years when he's been really good for us these past couple of years given how poor our defense was last year.
I don't think trading Binner should be out of the question. But dumping him absolutely should be. There's no reason to try and facilitate a deal with Buch by tacking on Binner.

Now that kind of deal would really be up to a true Blues fan to evaluate .. I've been spitballing here! And sure don't know about those prospects.

I think you'd basically be putting Buchnevich with Kotkaniemi and someone like Teravainen, Jarvis or Necas. Could boost Kotka up.

Shaking Things Up
Necas is due a big raise after this season, and he’s arbitration eligible so that might scare Carolina into wanting to do something with him before it gets to that point. Laine with 40% retained would probably be less than Necas’s next contract, but there always seems to be some drama surrounding him, so I don’t know if Carolina would want to risk that happening there, even at a bargain cap hit. As far as reuniting Laine with Sebastian Aho goes, how did that work out for Jesse Puljujarvi?
What about Columbus? The draft pick is a nice sweetener, but 40% of Laine’s salary is a lot to retain for three years, especially since they’ll probably end up paying Necas more than what they’ll be saving by getting rid of Laine. On the other hand, if they think Laine’s going to walk at the end of his contract, the chance to sign Necas to a long-term extension might be appealing, though I’m not sure NHL GMs think that far ahead.

He isn't the turnover machine Necas is either</div></div>
Yeah, the more I think about this, the more I like it for Carolina. I think they may be in a "sell high" position on Necas. But I still think the 3 years of salary retention would scare Columbus off. Is there a trade that would work with less or no retention? I was thinking maybe Orlov instead of Necas – 2 years of overpaid Orlov for 3 years of overpaid Laine – with no retention on Laine and Columbus still gets the draft pick, but Columbus isn’t going to need another defenseman once their injured guys come back.

Based on dailyfaceoff, it looks like Drury would likely be the odd guy out, with some tweaking. Martinook can play center right? Duclair would get a spot on one of the power play units too I'd think.
Teravainen - Aho - Jarvis
Svechnikov - Kotkaniemi - Necas
Bunting - Staal - Duclair
Noesen - Martinook - Fast

I suppose it comes down to what the 'Canes want to do with the space they have.. if by the deadline they're just looking for some "depth scoring", then Duclair could be a useful enough piece (I've said before, probably still a 20-25 goal scorer over 82 games), just fine for their 3rd line if they believe in Jarvis/Necas, Teravainen/Svechnikov, and Aho/Kotkaniemi for their top six.

TOR DO SOMETHING

Nylander take home for 9 million with Carolina: $4,870,019.
10 million with Toronto: $4,548,983.</div></div>
I've heard conflicting opinions on the impact of local taxes, and it's not my area of expertise so I can't comment on that, but $9M is getting closer to a number that I think would make sense for Carolina. It depends on the term. 5 or 6 years maybe, but I don't think I'd give him 7 or 8 considering he'll be 28 when it kicks in. I'm still not sure about giving up Necas though.

I don't agree that Pettersson is the only Vancouver player who could help Carolina, but I do agree that Carolina is unlikely to make a trade that could reduce their chances of winning the cup this season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mikeyfan</b></div><div>We just don’t need another Defenseman so Hanifan does nothing, besides I don’t think he and Brind’Amour see eye to eye, thus the trade to Calgary to begin with. As for Rust, Rakell would be a better fit IMO and I don’t think you’d go there.
The Canes are poised to get the cup, if we make a trade it will be for a top winger or Center, who has a better than average PP shot, someone like Nylander. The Canes have stated they will not Rush Svech back into action, so a trade for Nylander may put Svech on LTIR which by the time he is illegible to come back the team cap hit will be below the cap.</div></div>
That's a great point; I had not thought about him and Brind'amour being an issue, I was thinking that was just the move they could make at the time. But if the coach had an issue with him then there is no point.
I like the idea of Nylander, just not sure they will give up what TOR wants, but that could be a really good idea.
As for Rackell, I agree I don't see PIT doing that, but if something else went back to PIT they might consider it.

I KNOW ITS CRAZY BUT HERE ME OUT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Canes aren’t doing this. First of all, and move sending out an RD for a LD is stupid considering that 1 of Orlov or Skjei is already poised to be playing on the 3rd pair. Rust would be playing on the 3rd line in Carolina, since the only player he might beat out of the top 6 would be Bunting, and I highly doubt that ends up being the case. Not to mention, that deal is not aging well.</div></div>
As for playing off-handed is not as big of an issue as people make it out to be. You're not going to avoid playing someone better because of what hand they shoot with. That said, there are transitional reasons why strong side in the boards makes sense. I could see either Skjei or Orlov on the 3rd pairing already; which gives you arguably one of, if not the deepest top6 D pools in the league. And in case of a serious injury you already have a top4 D to slide in. So, it's not stupid. Not necessary, I will give you, but hardly "stupid".
As for Rust, I would have had him on the second line. Aho's line didn't need him, but I saw him slotting on the the second line wing. Having Bunting play 3rd line match ups is only going to help his numbers - depending on who ends up centering that line. He needs a solid playmaker at C like he had in TOR. I don't see him as a play driver, but a good finisher/net-driving presence. Whereas I see Rust better at driving the play. Just MHO

Assuming Nylander and Laine would both agree to the trade, it’s not a terrible exchange of RWs, but unless Nylander also agrees to extend, CBJ would be on the losing end of this.

Personally, I would rather not move Blake just yet. Canes will likely wait and see what he can do in the AHL before considering moving him. He has torn up the USHL, WJC, and now he is tearing up the NCAA. If he is going to be moved, it would likely be for a younger impact player like Meier.
