Name hunting and not actually scouting or caring about fit. Dude was trying to save his job while not caring about the teams future.
Edit: Sorry I thought I was quoting someone else lol

True. But no matter how you look at the move to Utah.....the hockey team is still the Coyotes.
Why trade for 5.3m Jarry. Sign a better UFA cheaper.

Timo Meier, Matthew Tkachuk both got moved in the last 2 years, for players like Brady Tkachuk
Both power forwards, with meier having very similar production to brady, and Matthew of course having much greater production
In fact NJD offered the pick used to take Nemec for Matthew Tkachuk, Brady's significantly better brother. 1 for 1. Nothing else.
When's the last time a Nemec type asset got moved?
a top 2 pick from 2 years ago who's excelled.

I can’t tell if you’re trolling or if you actually believe this. Ur trading for a PPG player and only giving away a useless cap dump player, a decent young player, and a late 2nd. CBJ may not even accept that trade if you take laine out of it 😂

Apart from the fact that a trade can quite easily be made to open said space and, until further notice, Lehner is LTIR eligible which opens up sufficient space.

bottom out
Goalies don't bring in big returns. Comparisons are never perfect that being said. Below are 2 goalie trades where age and stats are similar to Markström.
Chicago traded Fleury to Minnesota for a 2nd that had a condition that could turn into a 1st.
StL traded Allen to Montreal for a 3rd and a 7th

That 2025-26 season with a 6 mill markstrom at age 36 that we'd be stuck with would be brutal.
If I had to make projections for my top goalies in that year, I'm not sure 36 year old Markstrom would be in my top 30.

Gross idea. Honestly looking at a lot of the cap situations, I wouldn't touch Markstrom unretained with a 10 foot pole.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJDevils1317</b></div><div>Yeah, my argument is more the idea of a "huge haul". If he went for a 1st and you walk away from that cap hit and start over with a smaller Seamus Casey trying to be a more mobile D, I can dig it. I just don't see the return being anything bigger than a late 1st and a kicker.</div></div>
I'd agree. The important thing is ensuring we can stay in a good spot cap wise and get Luke and Nemec locked up long term. (Luke should 100% be extended for 8 years this offseason)

Casey and Broberg
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>I am sure NJD would consider that. Casey has more value for sure. Bahl is a more proven asset. Casey has top 4 offensive D potential. Bahl is a solid and big bottom pair guy.
I understand Calgary has Brzustewicz already but it's never a bad thing having a surplus of good young RD. They won't all pan out and they can always be used as trade chips later also.
If I am Calgary I go with Casey over Bahl EASILY.</div></div>
Tough **** for calgary because NJD isn't adding casey to a 1st.
Additionally Brzustewicz and his fear of competition would be pissed if they brought his daddy Casey and buried Hunter on the depth chart once again. Already happened to him twice already, with Casey burying him on the depth chart for the US team, and then taking his spot at Michigan too.

When do we talk about the mistakes from GM
Problem was injuries, youth, goaltending.
We lost Graves, Severson in off-season…Hamilton, Siegenthaler to injuries. Replaced with Hughes, Nemec, Bahl, etc.
Last year we were youngest team in almost a decade to reach 2nd round. This year, if we made playoffs, we would have been youngest team there (by over a year).
I love seeing Zetterlund and Sharangovich finding success…but losing them wasn’t the issue. And Fitzy got extended mid-year…he isn’t going anywhere.

Not much doubt where those "reports" originated from. Anderson won't be going anywhere without paying for it or maybe with 50% retention they get a late round pick.

A) not a real thing that increases trade value on rentals
B) you cannot extend Buchnevich until after the draft, so that means no 2024 1st
