Resiliated? If you mean terminated, that simply is not possible; they're going to have to live with him, warts and all.

"Easily" is quite the overstatement. The first few years wouldn't be bad but they'd have big dead hits for four years after that that they really can't afford. I'd say there is .00000001% chance they buy him out; like it or not, they're a better team when he plays and since the window is now, they'll roll the dice and keep him around.

Why Marner to Colorado Wont Work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>Isn't Landeskog retiring? When you have to come out to the media and say, I'm not retiring but I have no timeline for my return after missing the last 12+ months I think that's just a way of letting the team put your on LTIR instead of "retiring" and them having to eat your cap.</div></div>
No player is going to leave $35M on the table by retiring before their contract is up. He seems very hopeful that he'll come back, he's just not sure when. It has been a long road (2 years, to be accurate) but he's still in recovery and rehabbing so if he's not ready to LTIRetire, the team isn't going to push him to do that.

Landeskog is my opinion should just hang his skates up. He won't be the same player and his contract in hindering the avs right now. He should become a coach with the avs system for now.
I think the C should go to Toews. People say mackinnon but he dint want it.
Last thing. Kovalenko did better then expected in my opinion. At times he looked out of place but dude was thrown into a fire with no practice and stuff.
If landy ends up on LTIR they can easily get 2 more top 9 players and a 3rd pairing dmen. I'm a try one with no trades and no landy</div></div>
I don't see anyone taking him on full freight but GMs do weird stuff all the time
We can't know what's going to happen with Landy but we do know he hasn't played competitive hockey in two years and had a surgery not many elite athletes have had. It doesn't look good but we won't know until we hear something.

I actually think sending Nuke to the minors is not a terrible idea. I mean, it doesn't save a ton in cap but it might reinforce just how pissed they are. Maybe he asks for a trade; maybe he refuses to report and they terminate his contract. It's another of several options they have.
I can't see Behrens making the jump next year and I'd rather see them dump Manson than Girard. $2.1M is a lot to pay a 4th line C but he was pretty good for them; if they go 4 years, they should be able to shave at least a little off that cap hit. It's going to be interesting to see if Kovy can stick. He obviously didn't get much time to adjust but looked out of place. Once he does get time to adjust, hopefully he can be a solid bottom-six option. Mitts may very well get more. Of course, if Landy doesn't come back they'll have more money to play with; I wonder if they have an internal timeline on his return because if they go beyond UFA not knowing one way or the other, that's going to be tough to deal with.

1. Of course; we assume a lot of things here. But it makes sense for him to want a fresh start; he had to leave the playoffs TWICE and he knows his teammates are, to say the least, not happy with him. \

I could see a trade with something like 20% retention, a 1st and a decent prospect. Some team might do it knowing that, should he reach level 4, they could then likely terminate his deal. It's a risk some team(s) might be willing to take. Not saying it will happen only that it could under the aforementioned conditions.

Thinking that Duchene is a replacement for Mikko is something plus there is almost no chance of him choosing to come back or the Avs offering him a contract; still too much bad blood there.

They can't just terminate his contract; that is simply not an option with him being in the Player Assistance program. Now, if he gets to level 4, that's a different story but that would mean he got cleared at level 3, he was reinstated and then violated the terms of his release from the program so, in that case, he would have to end up back on the ice which means they have to account for his cap hit. And there is such thing as too high a price to pay to have someone else take him; you can't send, for example, a 1st and Ritchie and retain 50% just to get rid of the contract. This is going to take time and has to follow a process to clear up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>batman</b></div><div>180k penalty is very cool.
idk what’s the penalty for the other years tho</div></div>
You should check it out. It's actually -$180K the first year so that's nice but then it goes to:
$519K
$3.019M x2
$5.019M x2
$1.694M x6
I guess if they decide it's worth it for the first 2-3 years but then it gets crazy. Also, ownership would have to sign off which isn't necessarily a foregone conclusion; that's a lot of money to pay a guy to not play for you. I imagine they explore all other avenues including just having him come back and seeing if he can't stay clean; if he helps them win games (which he does), he'll earn a little bit of leash but there will always be the risk of relapse and going to stage 4 which could give them grounds for contract termination. At the very least, in that scenario they'd get a year of LTIR relief and he might never be reinstated after that.

Can't see a buyout; it's possible but I would be shocked. The alternatives aren't great but a buyout isn't palatable. Doubt they bring Ritchie in next season but they should go ahead and get him signed. Doubt Behrens makes it to the NHL next season (if he ever does with the Avs). Can't see them bringing Duchene back; for that money, I bet Drouin would stay.

I think the price for Lindy is fair considering the down year and his age but he'll probably want another year or two and some GM will give him $8M because GMs do that sort of thing.

Just going to reiterate: they CANNOT simply terminate Val's contract so it isn't even worth mentioning at this point. If he goes to level 4, that's a different story but they have to follow the process first; they can't count on having that money available all season so it's useless to pretend as though they can just make that contract go away.

No crazy blow-ups what could Val return
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>Retention, to begin with.
He’s productive; but, yeah…it’s very hard to get over the toxicity here. Otherwise, why would COL be looking to move him?
If I’m CBJ, or really any team, I sit and wait for as long as possible. If someone wants to pay a dollar - go for it. But I think you’re going to see a bunch teams sitting on their hands waiting for the ask to go down. Or maybe some of the TOR fans can convince themselves they can Fix Him™️.
Otherwise, I’m paying pennies and basically keeping the guy on house arrest.</div></div>
They'd definitely have to find a team that is desperate and willing to take a risk; Toronto definitely qualifies, LOL. The upside would be that, if he goes to stage four, it's a year suspension so they can LTIR that for a year then try to void the remainder of the deal. If the Avs were willing to retain, say, 20% of his contract, I could see a team that needs a clearly talented and clutch player who is also clearly troubled. That's more bearable than a buyout but it's still a tough sell.
