So the above package but switch the '24 1st to a '23 1st? I am doing that in a heartbeat. Is Scheifele not a better player than Ehlers, or I am way off?

Phillips had 6 more points in 1 less game than Pelletier last year. He is arguably a better player and more NHL ready than Pelletier.

I hear ya in regards to Mony. Vlad and Mony are similar players imo, in that they both have prior injury history (shoulder for Vlad, hips for Mony) and if they're not scoring, they bring very little else to the table. STL is set to lose Vlad this offseason for nothing anyways as he is unlikely to re-sign there after requesting a trade. I just see it as a swap of similar players with some young NHL ready players going back to STL to sweeten the deal.

Nothing wrong with Pelletier having another season in the AHL and being #1 on the Heat. He will be in CGY anyways as the AHL team is relocating here (which has not been discussed much this offseason). But I think it translates into a very prudent move for the organization and will improve the Heat franchise tremendously having their players around NHLer's on a daily basis.

Eat Your Heart Out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kster34</b></div><div>Genuinely curious - how do you resign Huberdeau or Weegar in this scenario?
Ebee has 2 years left, at least lucic was coming off the books next year</div></div>
Monahan coming off the books next year - 6.75 mill. Plus Huby's current contract - 5.9 mill. That's 12.65 mill in space. Huby probably in the range of 9 mill per year, leaves 3.65 mill left over.
Include Weegar's current 3.25 mill, plus the space of 3.65 mill = 6.85 mill. Weegar in the range of 6 mill per year. Still 850K left over if we re-sign both, without any other roster moves - just having Mony's contract come off the books.
To take it a step further, in this scenario, Stastny and Raffl would come off the books 2.75 + 1 = 3.75 mill, plus current cap space of 1 mill, plus cap increase ~ 1 mill next year. Total of 5.75 mill in cap next off season even with Huby and Weegar signed long-term at reasonable AAV's.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lsendel3</b></div><div>Firstly that’s in TWO years. You said after next year. Secondly, I don’t think you understand what RFAs mean. Sure they have to sign them and they have a severe advantage on 1) they can only communicate with them until after the season is complete (meaning extensions during anytime) and 2) Buf can match an offer, meaning I’d they really want they can keep all 4 of them for a minimum of 3 on some, more on others (pending age and NHL games played).
Not to mention you are trading Buf Kylington who’s arb eligible and can take a one year deal right to UFA. Exactly what you are screaming what is wrong with Buf defense. Except it happens sooner with him. Didn’t really think that one through did ya</div></div>
They are ALL arb eligible in 1-2 years time. Kylington is arguable better than 3/5 (not Dahlin and Power), and BUF gets cost certainty because he is due a contract now, rather than signing 4 guys all in one offseason. I dont expect a trade to happen without BUF understanding what a Kylington extension looks like..

Right, 5 dman without contracts after next year.. Please explain why RFA status is relevant..? There's this illusion that RFA players are somehow on the roster, they're not, you still have to sign them.

RFA means little more than 1 year of team control if they're coming off a bridge deal, you still have to sign them. I know exactly what Tuch brings for the Sabres - 12G and 26A for a total of 38 points in 52 games. That's 0.73 PPG. He was a -3 last year and plays with speed off the wing. The value of these players is known just through basic research.. it's not some elusive mystery. A top 9 forward (younger than Tuch with similar pts and playing style) and a Top 4 dman is the price being paid for a player like Tuch.

If the flames need scoring depth the sabres might be interested in trading Olofsson, if there was a decent prospect coming back. Olofsson is a good scorer and with consistency probably gets 30.</div></div>

Have to give to get my friend. Weegar is a plug and play replacement for Hanifin. His underlying numbers are actually better than Hanifin's and he passes the eye test with his hard-nosed style of play. Besides, T.O. has become a dumping ground for former Flames defensemen (see - Brodie & Gio).
