We still need more cap room
I didn't realize how badly Vegas crapped the bed trying to fix what wasn't broken after their incredible 1st season.

I definitely like the thinking though. It's not a bad idea at all. And who knows maybe Victor Rask could find his game in Boston lol. I just think there's a lot of risk to that. But I'll tell ya one thing, the day the Bruins buy out Backes, I am getting sauced LOL party time

Contenders still
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OTTrebuild</b></div><div>Yeah I agree, the connoly deal is a stretch, but for a middle 6 player like him he may take a pay cut to take a longer term deal for the security because he is used to the 1 year deals lol. But definitely think he is worth more in a shorter term deal.</div></div>
I'd love to bring Connolly back, but he is only 27 and will get some decent term. Also, he really doesn't drive play and is a liability defensively. All he does is score, which is good obviously, but when he is cold he doesn't bring anything else. I'd love to see burky get a full year playing consistent minutes with Eller & Hagelin.

I wouldn't mind that move, but VGK can't take on any added salary. Also think Connolly is gonna get way more than that. Super interested to see what happens with Burky cause even though they qualified him, they could try to agree to a different contract with maybe lower AAV. IMO burky would play looser with a multi-year deal. Maybe 3 x 2.5M?

Hell ya, this is a really good idea, and honestly one of the first I've seen on how to deal with Backes. I don't think you really have to include the picks though, mostly because if you do this deal after the first, Minnesota saves 7 million dollars in real money. So, give Rask a shot, and if he stinks, send him to the minors, saving the, I believe it's gone up, 1.1 or so million. So it's kind of the same as eating half of Backes deal to get rid of him, but, I think it would be much easier to move Rask after next year than it would be to move Backes.
A+. Best of a bad situation, huge fan of this concept, even though I think Rask most likely goes on waivers and to the minors, with Studnicka coming up.

Honestly as much as I hate to say it, I'd rather keep Backes. Rask has been miserable and is close to playing himself out of the league. I'd rather keep Backes for the season and buy him out next offseason than pay Rask 4 million for 3 years.

Drop Stecher from the trade and maybe it's getting closer (VAN won't trade Horvat anyways), but LMFAO at the guy who says Barrie "isn't even a huge upgrade over Stecher." Delusional.

If Stepan can get back to 50+ points again then I can see it’s possible. Zucker will get to 30 a couple more times at least.

Apparently Barrie should be traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>As much as Barrie May get traded, it's not for that package.
Stecher is a very similar player that's younger, under more team control and cheaper than Barrie. Horvat is one of the best two way forwards in the league and has been talked about as one of the making leaders on the team. & again is younger than Barrie and Horvat's younger and better than Soderberg. The picks are irrelevant because we don't know the position of them so it's one team moving up for free basically.
Nothing about this offer says that Vancouver should take it</div></div>
Not gonna argue that you should trade Horvat. He's a great player on a fantastic contract. But as for "nothing about this offer says that Vancouver should take it"? Barrie's a 60 point defenseman that can quarterback your PP1 and a BC native. Throw Hughes behind him to learn and you've got a pretty damn good looking D-corp. So I disagree entirely on that sentiment.
Soderberg gives you your stopgap. Make it Kerfoot if you want someone younger with more potential. As far as the value goes though, that's pretty damn good for both sides. It's just a question of need/fit, because it's obvious that Horvat means a great deal to that team.

I like Stepan, but I'd honestly rather go after the Yotes 1st round pick in a Zucker trade. Interesting trade, though.

100% agreed. And, if he does get off to a hot start. Come TDL, they'll probably be able to get something in return. Lots of options here.

Possibly more if that salary cap is less the 83 million as some are reporting, so trading Reaves maybe even at a loss might be required ... these trades seem fine though.
