Playoff Roster If Skinner Does What Binnington Did

They can ask what they want, they won't get a 1st and a top prospect for Hertl as a rental. If he has 2 years left on his contract he'd be worth a 1st + a 2nd + a prospect, but not as a rental.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Wow are you ignorant. Barrie is a top-10 offensive defenseman at 5v5 and has been for years. He's played fewer than 82 games in Edmonton and you want to pin a decade's worth of quality hockey on McDavid and Draisaitl? Irrational at best, psychotic at worst.</div></div>
Before coming to Edmonton he put up 0.62 pts per game. Last year he put up 0.86 points per game in Edmonton. Over 82 games that's a 51 point pace compared to a 71 point pace. So clearly he is benefitting from Edmonton's powerplay and it is 100% fact that he is a defensive liability. The guy lead the league in d scoring and didn't even get a single 5th place Norris vote (TERRIBLE DEFENSIVELY). Add that into Evan Bouchard outscoring him this season while not playing any powerplay time and it makes him very expendable.

It's likely going to be a 27th-32nd overall selection in the draft. It's not that high of a price to pay.

Hertl is a second line centre with an expiring contract, you're overvaluing him.

Not really, Barrie has incorrect perceived value around the league due to his inflated numbers from playing PP with 97 and 29. It's not that complicated.

You do realize he's a rental right? Why would any team give up a first AND a top prospect for a rental second line level player?

Playoff Roster If Skinner Does What Binnington Did
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bringer_Of_Snow</b></div><div>Pretty much common sense you don’t go for it all unless you’ve shown you can actually make a run. Once the Oilers show they are consistently going beyond the 1st round; then those 1st pick rentals make sense.
When you have the two best hockey players in the planet on your team, you aren’t thinking about winning one cup. They want to win a few. I get that you gotta win one before you can string some together, but if you put yourself in a position where you don’t have the 1st round talent in your prospect pool coming up once you’re already at the cap limit and your rentals have moved on, that’s not exactly good news. You don’t go trading all future picks when you’ve made it past the 1st round once in the McDavid era.
Pretty much exactly what Tampa did. After a few years of being a top team in the league but not winning it all, they made the moves using their 1sts to push them over the top. Not to mention, they got cheap, high impact players with term left.
Moving the picks like you suggested is nothing short of reckless.</div></div>
This is untrue. The Oilers are in a position where they have high end young players who are nearing NHL ready and will be able to contribute for years to come, (Samarukov, Broberg, Holloway, Savoie, Bourgeault, Petrov, Skinner, Konovalov, etc.), What would be wreckless is not going for it and losing McDavid and Draisaitl to unrestricted free agency. Trading picks, when you're hovering around the top of the league and have the cupboards stocked with a lot near-ready prospects, is in no way wreckless. It's just not.

You seriously have to ask that? It's obviously because his point totals are inflated due to being on a powerplay with 97 & 29. This creates perceived value, even though it shouldn't. Teams will 100% wrongly pay a premium for his services.

Also I’m taking Barrie 11 days out of 10 over Miller</div></div>
Barrie is absolutely awful. He's horrible defensively and Bouchard easily replaces him as a better 5v5 point producer on the right side who, if given the chance, could likely produce at the same rate on the PP. Barrie gives up way more than he produces and it's not even close. As far as not going all in this year, when is it that you're going to do it then? The Oilers are backed up against a wall in terms of cap space for next season. If they can get solid goaltending I don't see any reason to not go all in.

Holloway by himself is worth more than Kubalik and Mitchell combined. The fact you think the Oilers would throw two high draft picks in there as well is a head scratcher to say the least. Also, Holloway is an untouchable anyway so there isn't much point in bringing it up. Holloway is on track to be equal/slightly better than Dylan Larkin.

In total you’re about $6-7million short on the Bennett, Coleman, Hyman, and Glendening contracts. This is pretty delusional. Hyman is going to walk this year and Leaf fans just don’t want to admit it to themselves!

I’m an Oilers fan and that Trade is ridiculous. No you would need a good prospect and at least a 2nd round pick to get Debrusk. Marody a top 6 forward? He won’t play top 6 in his entire career. I’m not convinced he makes the NHL. He’s had one good year playing with 2 of the best players in the AHL on his line. And you underpaid every free agent so that’s not even close either.

The smart move would be to let Barrie walk. That’s way to much money for him and you can’t have him and Bouchard on your right side. The oilers will let Barrie walk and sign Larsson.

Big (WPG/CBJ) and Small (NYR/CGY/CAR) trades
The Oilers would only get 1 year of Panarin and then wouldn't be able to afford to re-sign him. Then here we are with a big hole at wing with no Nuge, no Panarin, and no 10th pick.

PANARIN
1.) So Panarin would expire after one year of him playing for the Oilers and then the Oilers wouldn't be able to afford to sign him. This means you are moving a very very good long-term Klefbom contract, a cheap entry-level Yamamoto contract, and a promising prospect in Caleb Jones for 1 year of Panarin. Columbus has Bobrovsky and Korpisalo so they won't take Montoya. The Oilers pick is way more valuable than CBJ's because this is a top heavy draft. I don't see the Oilers swapping it in any trade.
2.) Vancouver wouldn't include that high of a pick in this trade and the Oilers absolutely do not want Louie Erickson. Lucic has said he doesn't want to go to Vancouver for personal reasons, he has the NTC so he would only waive it for a team he wants to go to.
