Um, Mike Sillinger's boy is pretty good, and there's a good chance Brendan Gallagher may never play in the NHL again, and even if he does, he hasn't performed up to his contract in at least three seasons, and his contract is one of the five worst in the league (he's owed $27.5 million for the last four seasons) . . .
I think that Jordan Harris' trade value is a first-round draft pick, but I highly doubt Montreal would consider trading him until they have Lane Hutson under contract.

1. SJ doesn't need that cap space at all.
2. SJ's owner is one of the richest (2-5 depending on the list), and has made clear he is totally fine burning tens of millions if it's a hockey decision.

I honestly think this more than gets it done without retention, if Detroit were to go down that road. Keeping the retention slot open for 4 years, plus the money saved, would be equal to a 1st; add on the fact that you've thrown in a pair of 1sts and I'd argue you can call it a day there - throwing in Wallinder and Veleno is overkill.
If I was Yzerman, and I thought Karlsson was a worthy swing to take, I'd package something like Wallinder, the '24 1st from Boston, a roster player like Gustav Lindstrom, and Fabbri's 2x$4M deal for Karlsson with no retention. I've got the cap room this year and next, and the hope is that the cap will jump up enough in 2 years that Karlsson's last 2 years aren't particularly onerous.
It's a very interesting swing to take - I don't think it fits the Yzerplan, for whatever that's worth, but I also feel like if you can get a potential Norris winner without giving up any of your premier assets, it's worth thinking about.

I'm with <a href="/users/Suzuki_Cup" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Suzuki_Cup</a>: I predict that you use the Florida pick to select a RhD like Sandin Pellikka or Reinbacher.

Hoping we get into the top 3.
If Florida pick doesn't win the lottery I'm open to trading it down (or up). Might be better going for quantity if the draft is as deep as suggested.

My personnal targets for the draft
#5 (top4 is pretty obvious) : Will Smith (2nd option: Benson)
#12 : Sandin-Pelikka (2nd option: Ryan Leonard) I really feel like Reinbacher will be our pick though.
Would be amazing getting Hrabal in the 2nd round

A Very Risky Trade Proposal
Montreal declines. They already will potentially have TWO lottery balls, no sense in trading a player like Caufield just to replace him with a player who MIGHT be similar to him.
Note: some people aren’t reading the part where it says BEFORE the lottery.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldHabsFan61</b></div><div>I thought about making a more realistic Lafreniere offer but honestly I’d only do it once the stupidity cools down.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Just_A_Guess</b></div><div>IF there is a Laf trade to be done with these 2 teams, the best time (for MTL) would be in the offseason after the draft. MTL should not move their '23 picks (1sts) imo. Offseason trade I'd send '24 1st (top 5 protected), '24 3rd, Ylonen (who could take the same deployment currently as Laf but at a much lower rate), + MAYBE one other small piece or take back something NYR want to dispose of in return.
Would that get beat? Likely. Should MTL be gutting their picks and prospects for Laf? No.
Dach (3rd overall in the same draft) returned a 1st + 3rd and can play C (something more valuable than just a winger). Laf has had less than stellar seasons (yes I know he's likely to vastly improve but he won't do so on the 4th line) and I'm not willing to move the farm for him just because he's from Frenchland.
Whether anyone agrees with me or not, I really hope MTL does not make a move for him until at least after the draft...if at all depending on the price. I also understand that NYR will likely want more and that's fine, send him elsewhere if you can get better.</div></div>
I posted this on another thread but I feel like it's relevant to our short conversation so far.

A Look at Columbus With Bedard
I like the idea of trading for Kylington, but zero percent chance Texier is moved while he’s in the players assistance program. He’s either a Blue Jacket next season or he stays in Europe indefinitely. I doubt Vancouver goes for the Roslovic trade at this point (tonight notwithstanding). Talbot signing definitely questionable, too. But you definitely get points for a Jackets team that looks acceptable, which is rare from fans of other teams. Good work.

What about Bergevin who is looking for a GM job around the league, is he now untouchable because he was party to this and covered it up.
The people he is talking about are active members of a very small community and it hurts and is shocking to see it.
Do I think it details the Habs season? Absolutely not. Do I think they are distracted that for a lot of these guys people that they knew and worked with are reflected in this negative light, yes I am sure they are all curious and worried and wondering. I also think they are all concerned about how this might change the dynamics of the locker room. If the wrong confidence is betrayed, even a 100 point player could be kicked out of the league.</div></div>
I don't feel bad for Bergy. Habs gave him an opportunity to be a GM and paid him a lot of money. He'll always have a job in the NHL. I don't know if he'll be a GM again. I do miss that Red suit though.
