Yeah. We poverty franchises like Utah and Anaheim should know what it's like to have not one but TWO real franchise players and $h!t results since Anaheim won the Stanley Cup almost 20 years ago.

Why would you think that that fetid stew of unwanted spare parts would get Anaheim's top goal scorer and points leader?

Wings BS
Welcome to CapFriendly. Sometimes, it's not too friendly.
Anaheim fans are convinced that Trevor Zegras is not on the market, no matter what the hopeful buzz is. So it would take a very serious offer to move him, including an impact player or prospect. Obviously, Lucas Raymond is out of the question, but none of those three players you've included in your offer here is that enticing. In my opinion, about the best fit with Detroit would be Nate Danielson and your 2024 first, or maybe Danielson, Marco Kasper and your 2025 second with something more from us. But since this is the first offer I can remember seeing from the Red Wings, there hasn't been much discussion about a Detroit trade for Z.

You really want to pay that kind of money to Juraj Slafkovsky next summer? And if you do, match a similar offer for Kaiden Guhle?

Sadness
SURE the Sabres are going to trade you three key elements of their future in exchange for one season of Mitch Marner.
Maybe the fact that concentrating 57.5% of the permissible cap in 5 players doesn't work -- a 6-year experiment that even the Toronto brain trust seems to have acknowledged has failed -- has escaped the Buffalo front office's attention, and now that Marner is a short-termer, Buffalo will take him off your hands and give you what you should have been assembling in the meantime.
Don't hold your breath.

<strong>WOW!!!!</strong> that's a huge wager that (1) Thompson pans out, and (2) Thompson re-ups. Since the first is the 2024 choice, will you be able to even talk to him and his agent about an extension before making the trade?

TRADE FOR ZEGRAS DRAFT IGINLA PLUS DUBOIS TRADE
Neither player interests the Ducks very much, so I doubt that they pull the trigger on that offer.
The new regime in Arizona isn't trading away their first top-10 pick in their reign for a third-pairing defenseman, a drop of 20 places in the draft and a future shot in the dark which is more likely to be Florida's pick than Calgary's.
Los Angeles isn't retaining on Pierre-Luc DuBois. However bad you (or we) may think that the DuBois contract is, selling it while retaining on it makes it worse, not better, unless the return is decent, not $h!t.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>shucket</b></div><div>What I don’t understand look at the haul Dubois got, and Marner is gonna be traded for nothing?</div></div>
What you don't understand is that there's a third theory governing Marner trades, which is the one to which most of us outside Leafs Nation subscribe: in addition to (1) Marner should get what you think he's worth, and (2) Marner is going to get a lot less than what you think he's worth, there's (3): Marner isn't going to get what you think he's worth because almost teams can't afford it, i.e., <strong>he'll cost too much</strong>.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>shucket</b></div><div>People think since he has a NMC and gets to pick where he wants to go he holds no value. If he’s available 31 teams will try and make it work and you’ll be surprised the amount of assets they give up for him when they do.</div></div>
(1) That's not what most people think, in large part because (2) very few people think that Marner holds no value. On the contrary: the reason why people decline proposed Marner trades, 9 times out of 10, it's because the cost of paying to acquire him is too high. That's because he's the inevitable result of the by-now-discredited theory of constructing a roster by concentrating a gigantic and inordinate amount of cap space in a very few ultra-high-quality assets.

need offense
Why do so many Toronto guys keep trying to shoehorn Mitch Marner and his $10.9 million cap hit into cap-stressed rosters like Minnesota ($14.75 million dead cap next season) or Los Angeles ($20.9 million to re-sign Quinton Byfield and fill both goalie positions and eight other roster slots)? The proof is in this ACGM -- an unworkable 20-man roster and already over the cap. That's because the proposed trade in this ACGM adds about $6.2 million to Minnesota's already serious cap problem and create an almost hopeless inability to re-sign both Marner and Brock Faber in 2025. Please go play pretend-Marner-is-going-somewhere with teams like Utah and Chicago and Nashville and Columbus.

I can read better than you can write. Los Angeles cannot afford a trade which is cap-negative by $2.4 million and also requires filling yet another roster slot. Can't you count?

Coming to our senses
This isn't the first time that you've expressed what the sane world thinks about a Marner trade. Sadly, there's a significant contingent of Leafs Nation that won't hear because they're just not listening.
You must be as tired of the Marner trades as we Anaheim fans are of the Zegras trades (which always come from non-Ducks fans).
As we used to say in the Sixties, Keep On Truckin'.

Especially when he has a NMC? The proposed trade in this ACGM would subtract one of our only three RhDs, whom we would have to replace at an additional high cost, so it's a non-starter even if the money added up, which it doesn't. Please go play pretend-Marner-is-going-somewhere with teams like Utah and Chicago and Nashville and Columbus (as if Marner would waive his NMC to go to any of those teams!).

Anaheim won't be trading Trevor Zegras to Edmonton even if you make a reasonable offer, which this is miles away from being. The only player on your entire roster in whom we would have an interest (aside from McDavid and Draisaitl, of course, which is ridiculous) is Evan Bouchard, and we know that you're not doing that.

Leafs Retool And Continued Attitude Adjustment
I greatly enjoyed reading your Description and appreciate the effort and insight that went into it.
Jarnkrok's modest cap hit should attract a buyer but I think that $2.1 million is the ceiling for what it will take to re-sign the 6-years-younger Blake Lizotte, so I don't think that LA would be the team.
I think that your UFA figures are well within reason, and likely to be pretty accurate.
Again, really nice work.

Marc-Andre Fleury agreed to his new contract and play one more season precisely because he was given the assurance of an NMC. I don't think that even the prospect of winning one final Stanley Cup would be enough incentive for him to waive it.

Trade Down
I don't think that this is a very good idea for Chicago. Let's assume that the Black Hawks are currently trying to choose between Levshunov or Silayev, Lindstrom or Silayev, or Levshunov or Lindstrom at #2. This trade virtually guarantees that they won't get either of the pair they are considering, and might not get the third youngster, either.

If I were forced to put Trevor Zegras on the market, this is an offer for him I would accept. I think that you did a really good job here.

2nd trade seems like you are swapping extra first round picks for nothing. Why not eliminate one first round each side?</div></div>
Because they're in different years. Montreal needs a 2024 pick, having traded away the two they have right now. And third and fifth overall in this draft plus two firsts in 2025 is likely to turn out better than three 2024 picks (the last of which is probably going to be #29, #31 or #32) and our own in 2025.
