Its a doozy
Well, if that's the best that the Flyers can do for their new young #1 center, then I don't think it's enough. Besides, I doubt that Zegras is a Briere or Tortorella kinda guy.

The NHL has a serious antipathy to cap circumvention and there's sufficient language in the CBA to allow them to penalize Toronto (and maybe the two teams involved) more severely than they punished Ottawa for the Dadonov debacle. Speaking of Ottawa, I've never heard a GM say "We need to get softer."

That may be reasonable if you consider only single-season value (right now; it will change as McTavish matures and improves while Marner stays basically the same). But NHL24 isn't programmed to assess the shift in value when one player is under team control for 7 or more seasons and the other, only one.

Little interest in Robertson, who would get the same limited ice time here in Anaheim that he gets in Toronto, and even less interest in Jarnkrok, whom every Toronto fan trading him wants to move because of his cap hit (as here). The Ducks would be unlikely to want to trade Vatrano unless they could get a first-round draft pick out of the deal, and that package isn't first-round value.
Right now, I think it more likely that Anaheim re-signs Vatrano to a new contract at the end of the season than that they trade him. But that's before seeing how he plays this year.

UTAH
There has been so much rumor (unfounded thus far here in Los Angeles) about the negative effect DuBois supposedly has in the locker room that I think the new Utah owners would veto any deal for him, and Rob Blake isn't going to pay $30 million of the franchise's money to correct a mistake, no matter how bad. And remember -- two off-seasons ago, the worst contract in hockey was Sergei Bobrowsky's.

20-man rosters are very unrealistic and this one is made possible only by the even more unrealistic $850,000 figure for Cam Talbot.

I gotta admit, "if you get the 17oa pick for Spence I assume you take it" is a pretty compelling argument, especially considering our 2024 dance card and the number of free-agent third-pairing RhDs suitable for immediate employment. This is a trade that could easily happen and although I would miss one of my favorite Kings, I wouldn't be surprised.

Los Angeles won't be trading Blake Lizotte for anyone whose cap hit is higher than the anticipated cost of re-signing him, and Blake's number isn't expected to exceed $2.25 million.

I think that Anaheim might conceivably be interested in Timothy Liljegren, but if the Ducks need a seventh defenseman, they have Drew Helleson and Tristan Luneau (who might even make the team out of training camp) as internal call-ups instead of Conor Timmins.

One of the extremely few realistic and reasonable Marner-to-Los-Angeles trades I've seen. I would accept this one as the Los Angeles GM. Well done!

Yes, the Ducks should go defense if they don't get Celebrini. But a LD is out because with Mintyukov, Zellweger, LaCombe, Vaakanainen, Hinds and Dionicio on that side, Dickinson is overkill.

"Fresh Ideas"?!?!? That's <strong>hilarious</strong>!! This is the fourth time today, and the <strong>NINTH</strong> time this month, that you've proposed the ridiculous inclusion of Brandt Clarke in a trade to Toronto (8 times for Marner and once for Nylander), and on each of the earlier occasions, received unanimous opposition to the idea of including Clarke in ANY trade.
But go ahead. Just put your head down and ignore every single reaction you get. It's a horrible, terrible, no-good, horrible idea for the Kings, but you don't want to listen to what you don't want to hear.

Is this realistic If not what would make it
Welcome to CapFriendly. Sometimes, it's not too friendly, but don't be discouraged. We all had imperfect starts.
Los Angeles has no cap space, so every trade has to be cap-neutral or cap-positive. LaFerriere's minimal cap hit plus Spence's anticipated raise won't aggregate $2.9 million. Marner's cap hit is $10.9 million and then there's the additional cost of the player to replace the roster opening created by the 2-for-1 player swap, hence my esteemed friend <a href="/users/tkecanuck341" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@tkecanuck341</a>'s reference to "$10 million" and my esteemed friend <a href="/users/PuckLuck_77" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@PuckLuck_77</a>'s suggestion to add Pierre-Luc DuBois' $8.5 million to the equation.
Good luck with future posts!

I can't see Utah's new owners giving up the very first first-round draft pick of their regime, especially one as high as sixth overall.
