<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>I mean it's what you have always said the Ducks wanted in a package for Zegras, either Our 1st + Beck + Mesar or one of our top forwards (Suzuki, Slafkovsky or Caufield) or <strong>the Jets 1st + a top 4 RHD prospect</strong>. This package satisfies the 3rd option, Barron is a top 4 RD prospect, his ceiling might not be as high as Reinbacher's but it is still top 4, it is still higher than Mailloux's as well and heis only 22 so he still has time to develop.</div></div>
You're conflating several different statements we've made over the past three months, and just plain inventing some things, whether intentionally or not I don't know. Personally, I think that you've taken what we've consistently said and are mis-characterizing it in your own mind. We've always been very specific and never used the words "top forward" or "top RhD prospect." Specifically, we've listed three possible formulations for a Zegras trade: (1) Slavkovsky; (2) the Montreal first and a top forward prospect like Beck or Mesar; and (3) Reinbacher and your 2025 second. I don't ever recall any of us mentioning Suzuki (why in the world would we need a center?!?) or saying "the Jets first and a top 4 RhD prospect." What I recall MY saying was that we would take Reinbacher and the Jets first in response to this very proposal (Barron and the Jets pick). Finally, it's absolutely untrue than any of us have ever said we'd trade Zegras for Caufield.

sabres playoffs 25
I'd much rather have the choice of re-upping Frankie Vatrano at whatever he's going to cost if this season is as productive as he's been with us than having to carry Jeff Skinner at $9 million for three more seasons no matter what. And we're full up with bottom-6 wingers like Peyton Krebs. So No, thanks.

Marner
Anaheim declines and Gibson already has. Anaheim won't be a destination for Marner unless he comes with an extension for under $10 million AAV, which seems unlikely.
Dillon and Myers for $5 million each is cuckoo.
We'll be re-signing Gus Lindstrom. He's played well for us.

"Lucky"?!?!?
If their pick had been in the top ten this year, they would have one of the first ten selections this June instead of an unknown pick in 2025. How is that "lucky"?

Then why in the world are you putting him with Sidney Crosby on your first line?
You think that he'll <strong>tail off</strong> playing with Sid?!?
Considering the context, this might be the most asinine comment ever made about one of the greatest players in the game.

Utah wants to be competitive
With their own first-round pick (sixth overall), Utah can get a better LhD prospect than your namesake and then give you a second-round pick for Savard and a third-round pick for Harris. Barron and Lamoureux look about the same and Utah won't need Beck since they'll be going after big-name free-agent forwards in order to be competitive now.

Move back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joblow</b></div><div>I would be surprised if Anaheim draft at 3rd and doesn’t pick one of Demidov or Lindstrom.</div></div>
I will be shocked, outraged and disappointed if Anaheim picks second or third and doesn't select Levshunov.
Demidov is at least a putative RW (although he's left-handed) but Lindstrom is duplicative of Zegras, Carlsson, Gauthier and McTavish. If we get screwed a third time by the lottery process, I'd rather we choose Helenius, Parekh, Yakemchuk or even Buium (who I understand plays well on his off side) than Lindstrom.

C'mon, Habi, Utah isn't trading the sixth overall pick in this draft for Mike Matheson and Justin Barron.
Use the excuse that you were loading it and it just went off -- good thing it didn't hit the china cabinet.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habslife</b></div><div>Ok so do you think you will be competitive next season without a quality defender? Tourigny would take Guhle any day.</div></div>
I <strong>know</strong> that they won't be competitive without their best RW. Don't you?
Of course Tourigny and Armstrong would take Guhle . . . for a high draft pick or picks.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habslife</b></div><div>Yes but Utah will want to be competitive this season and they don't have any defense signed for next season. <strong>They can always draft an extra def.</strong></div></div>
That's the argument for Montreal doing this, not Utah.
Do you just not get the point that Utah can draft a defenseman more highly rated than Guhle with their own pick? Adding a defenseman doesn't make them more competitive unless they're adding Adam Fox or Quinn Hughes or Cale Makar.

Move back
The only way that the Montreal first gets ahead of the Anaheim first in order to draft Levshunov is if the Habs win the second-place lottery, in which case I see them using it themselves.
Were you thinking of Dadonov? (Mikheyev is with Vancouver.)

How in the name of all that is holy does adding defenseman Kaiden Guhle while subtracting 0.77 PPG first-line forward Dylan Guenther make them <strong>more</strong> competitive than they are now?!?!?

Don't look now, but you hit the "Send" button on the Montreal 2024 first, not the Winnipeg pick. I don't think it matters because I don't see Arizona trading out of sixth overall for Jordan Harris and some delayed gratification.

The next step
Toronto would accept that offer but the other four teams would decline, two of them insulting you while doing so.
Cole Caufield: 205 games, 81 goals, 68 assists = 149 points, -39, $7.85 million AAV
Trevor Zegras: 211 games, 55 goals, 99 assists = 154 points, -40, $5.75 million AAV
I'm not even going to ask for credit on the 11 games at the start of the season Zegras played with an injury so severe that he was able to score only one goal and one assist and eventually landed him on the LTIR list for 6 weeks, or the one game he played only three shifts before breaking his ankle.

Chychrun probably gets the Bo Horvat return (first plus a good prospect) but Laine's and Norris' health histories probably limit the returns for them.

Minnesota declines because with Brodin signed long-term, Middleton and Merrill on the books for another year and Lambos, O'Rourke and Peart on the horizon, Guhle is a luxury whereas Boldy is the best possible RW for Kirill Kaprizov and there is no internal replacement for him.
Anaheim declines because the offer contains no impact asset like David Reinbacher or your own 2024 first. It's no accident that Barron has become the most-traded young player in Montreal ACGMs lately -- he's the most expendable despite the fact that he's a nice prospect.

Wrong. See the original posted trade and the actual conditions on the Calgary pick, in the OP's comment immediately following yours.

Blowing It Up
Even with an extension, Marner isn't worth Zegras and Celebrini or Levshunov, so this would depend on how the draft lotteries shake out, but I doubt that we'd be interested even then because Liljegren and Petruzzelli aren't needle-movers.
Edit: And note that it's conditional on Marner signing an extension in advance, which almost never happens.

No. If the Calgary 2025 first is in the top 10, as the OP predicts, then Montreal doesn't get it and gets the Florida 2025 first instead, which could be #32 overall.
