Kerfoot
The Kerfoot trade is ok value but i'm not sure it get's done simply because of the difficulty and cost of replacing him and the versatility he has but for the purposes of this it's not bad.

I think Sandin is bad on the right and good on the Left and this makes no sense. Want to trade Holl because you have some hate on for him? Fine, you need an upgrade period. A RHD better than Holl is going to be significantly more money. Not a problem but then you need to move the cap required. Trading Kerfoot doesn't really get you that so Muzzin has to go and you would have to have the Holl trade done and ready the moment you move Muzzin.

Matthews is untouchable. He's third in the NHL despite playing only 29 games. Trading him for Dri is a side move at best, neither team has a reason to do this but especially Toronto. It get's them nothing.

Agents have zero reason to lie. Also accountants say the same thing and taxes for players don't work how you think they do. You want to believe it because it fits your narrative and your arguments fall apart without that. Lie to yourself all you want. That doesn't change the facts.

That's actually a myth that has been repeatedly discounted by agents and many players. That's not how their taxes work and these days players have money managers who take care of those issues for them. Canadian players aren't worse off in taxes and on Montreal and Toronto they get better sponsorship deals which is taxed completely differently which actually means they get paid more not less.

They have 4 goaltenders and Woll has proven he can be a good backup. They aren't going to trade to get a guy who has been average at best other than his rookie season.

Maybe that's true but the reason you are trying to dump Zaitsev on the Leafs is because he's awful. There's no chance Dubas would take him back. The moment his name came up Dubas would hang up the phone.

As for the Leafs defensive lineup Dubas will be looking for a player who's going to back an offensive D and do it well. He's not going to trade Holl and Leave Barrie and Reilly together.

Would probably cost more than you have here, but could benefit both teams.
Toronto gets the defensive help they need, and the Isles allow Dobson to get more minutes.
I’m not sure this would happen until Pulock is back, though.
Or we could send Justin Holl their way to fill a spot for some time, then he’d move to 3rd pair with a sheltered roll where’d he’d play better.
I haven’t watched a crazy amount of Isles games this year, because honestly they aren’t fun to watch this year, so maybe I’m off on Mayfield.</div></div>
Holl would actually fit in well with the way the Islanders play. I haven't watched a lot of Islanders games but Lou likes shutdown lines and that kind of defensive game and that's exactly the play Holl is good at. He doesn't do well with an offensive D and he needs a solid defensive D he knows what they are going to do.

Deadline deals
The Leafs trade is reasonable the only problem I see is that it's a big hit to the Leafs depth. Kerfoot is actually an important piece and has been really good this season and Hollowell is very promising and waivers exempt. Considering it is tough to say if this would happen and you are giving back a piece that fits the need of the team it's a great trade suggestion. Good work. Dunno if Dubas would do it but it would make him think.

You're assuming people on here have an idea of how defensive systems work, what makes a good defenceman and defensive line. Everyone assumes the more points you put on a defensive line the better. Although to be fair many GM's try this and quickly figure out why it's a bad idea.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Babatunde</b></div><div>Nope, the Leafs do</div></div>
The problem with these is that the Leafs need 2 large Defensive D who can clear the front of the net and can be the NHL equivalent of a fullback. They need to be big, fast, a good passer and crush guys. Not crush guys by the NHL definition of a hit but hit meaning take guys out of the play. Scoring and offence isn't the issue. Muzzin isn't able to be the defensive shutdown he has been and Holl isn't able to be the all around defensive D. He can be a great part of a shutdown line, don't get me wrong. He can't be the partner of an offensive D and that's what we need. We need 2 guys who can shut down the middle while Reilly and Brodie do offensive D things. That's the problem.

At this point teams dump it in on the right side as they know Holl can’t make a breakout pass.</div></div>
Muzzin isn't an offensive D and he's been steadily getting worse because age get's everyone eventually. As Muzzin get's worse so does Holl because while he's a good member of a shutdown pair (which Muzzin and Holl have been) he's not a stabilizing partner for an offensive D. Brodie and Reilly being separated and each having their own Defensive D who can cover for their risky plays that go sideways is optimal. We don't have the players to do that. Because you can make Brodie that for Reilly doesn't necessarily mean you should.

They aren't replacing Holl with an offensive D, that would be stupid. They need a big minute guy who can shut the play down while his partner does offensive D things.

What frustrates me is that people don't understand the role Holl's replacement would need to play. The Leafs wouldn't care about the guys offensive numbers. They want a big minute guy who starts a lot in the defensive zone but rarely gets pushed back there by the play and is rarely on ice for goals against because you don't put an offensive D with an offensive D and it doesn't matter how many faces he punches. The guy needs to be able to let Reilly or Barrie do what they do without worrying about the middle or defensive zone as much as possible. Barrie is wasted in many ways playing with Reilly.

The Leafs want a defensive D to play with Reilly so they can play Reilly/defensive d then Brodie and a defensive D. Brodie's partner wouldn't matter for handedness as he can play either side.

that depends on if you have an understanding of defensive structure and a realistic view of how Muzzin has been playing. Very few people do and most people on this site have a seething hatred for defensive defenceman.
