Edmonton Oilers signed Evander Kane (4 Years / $5,125,000 AAV)

And the NHL clearing a player means nothing when it comes to whether or not he's guilty.</div></div>
Just FYI, you two repeating that I'm misusing the term doesn't make it so. It is a written defamatory statement that (given the evidence we have) is untrue. Definition of libel.

Secondly: anyone with a shred of decency would not support their team acquiring someone like evander kane. It is not a high bar to set. Don't kick the **** out of your spouse.
Third: the nhl investigated the gambling on games, not the rest, and after the Beach stuff do you really trust their investigations anyway? Come on now don't be silly.</div></div>
If it's a false statement then it's libel. What makes you think I don't understand that term?

I'm saying the line "anyone with a shred of decency agrees with me" is evidence that you're too far-gone, not that you're emotionally driven. And it's libelous for you to call him a domestic abuser, unless he's convicted or has admitted to it. His ex accused him of multiple transgressions (including beating her and betting on his own games), the NHL investigated all of it and came up with nothing. What caused Kane to lose his Sharks contract was violating covid restrictions.

I can see you're emotionally too far-gone already (given the "shred of decency" line), but hasn't this already been investigated and nothing came of it?

Bad return for Zacha, but if it frees up capspace to afford Gaudreau, I can understand why they pulled the trigger.

EDM is finally starting to be appealing for UFA players because of their playoff run. Good for them.

Also, totally no tampering here, just a normal 8 second contract negotiation</div></div>
I think there is a one or two day window that teams can talk to agents before free agency opens. That is how Johnny hockey knew he was not going back to Calgary. His agent know that other teams were going to offer much more.

i mean you have to go all in before mcdavid wants out... its better than 4.5 M for koskinen
and by the end when campbell falls apart, mcdavid will likely have asked out and theyll be rebuilding

Massive upgrade on Smith and Koskinen. Don't think he's a game changer, but it gives Edmonton stability for 5 years, something they finally needed.

Pittsburgh Penguins signed Casey DeSmith (2 Years / $1,800,000 AAV)

We just gave a #3 Goalie $1.8m Per.... Sooo Bad</div></div>
Agreed - the injuries are the biggest concern, but really - who cares when his breakout season was?
Isn't it more relevant to ask what can he provide and what's it worth?
Are his career stats what you would expect to see from a decent back up? I think so.
I know it sounds like I'm defending this signing as if it's a bulletproof plan, which it's not, but I'm just wondering - what are the better options? Holtby or Halak?
The only thing I can think of is Fleury at $2M - but I gotta think he's gonna get more than that somewhere else.

He's proven he's capable of being an NHL back up - 96 starts | 2.67 GAA | 91.5% SV
Pittsburgh has gotta be shrewd with where they put their money. There may have been other options that appeared more appealing, but this feels like a secure bit of business handled.
