(BUF/CHI) - Nylander for Jokiharju
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DonkeyLips</b></div><div>Seems like Chicago fans need to calm down. It doesn't matter who their gm is. It doesn't matter what players they trade. It doesn't matter what players they sign. There is not a single thing any human being can do that will make any difference. This team is done for. You all just need to accept that. The Chicago Blackhawks "dynasty" is over before it even started. They have no hope of making the playoffs or even being close to competitive as long as they have Jonathan "Mr. Me" Toews as their captain. He is the worst leader, player, and human being to ever be associated with the NHL. Even worse than Billy tibbits, and that guy went to jail for raping a minor. Toews is the most selfish, arrogant, piss poor excuse for a hockey player I have ever seen. He skates slow to the bench, soft as ever, can't shoot the puck, couldn't make a pass to save his life. Does he know he is allowed to play a little defense every now and then? When's the last time he even won a face off? Worst of all, he can't even grow a proper beard. Jonathan Toews is pathetic and so are the Chicago Blackhawks.</div></div>
WHOA did Toews steal your girl?

I keep saying it, people don't want to believe it. Teams are not waiting on wingers. There are too many other people who want their chance. In 3 years you either got it or you don't.</div></div>
While I think you are right in the fact that teams move guys along faster, I think it is very dangerous to blanket all players into that. There are still late bloomers.

Let me rephrase because I think I was overly harsh. The argument can certainly be made, im just wondering what makes you come to such a conclusion because the numbers don't bear it out. And i am a firm believer in the eye test and all but Zaitsev still falls short there to.

(NSH/NJD) - Subban for Santini, Davies, 2019 2nd round pick, 2020 2nd round pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>That may be the least intelligent comment I’ve seen on here. No offence. People don’t like Subban not because of his play (he’s an elite defensemen). It’s cause he’s an eccentric, energizing, African Canadian hockey player who sticks out from the crowd. He’s extremly talented and can change the pace of a game. Sure his last season was bad, but everyone has down seasons. He’s got a big personality and he backs it up from his play on the ice. Sure he isn’t the best defensively but neither is burns, rielly, letang, karlsson, etc...</div></div>
Man I was with you till that weird insinuation of racism. I think this is a great trade for the devils, but I also do not like Subban and it has nothing to do with him being black. Being "eccentric" doesn't excuse selfishness and poor locker room presence. Although he was much better in Nashville (a city that embraced him btw) he still has a spotty track record. The unsubstantiated claims that people don't like him because of their unconscious or conscious bias is a tad crazy to me. That being said NJ paid pennies on the dollar here. And anyone who says Zaitsev is a better defender are either being dishonest or are just not paying any attention at all.

(NJD/CBJ) - Kinkaid for a 2022 5th round pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>Highway robbery for CBJ. NYD what are you doing?</div></div>
So I am Devils fan, watch pretty much every game and follow the online community abit and when I tell you I was legitimately stunned we found a taker for Kinkaid. I was even MORE stunned by the reaction on here. Make no mistake I seriously appreciate "Blockaid" and all he has done particularly helping hall lead the charge into the playoffs last year. But he has looked awful this year and sports an unsightly .891 save percentage. Goalies typically don't get big returns at the deadline anyway, and many Devil fans thought we were gonna get nothing so I was happy. All that being said cheap insurance for CBJ so it is a solid move.

Make no mistake Brannstrom is legit, many neutral outlets are high on him, don't get me wrong I don't think Ottawa got full value, but people are running down Brannstrom as a result an I don't think that is fair.

It usually manifests itself as a strange condition that will probably never be fulfilled, The CBA does not allow you to trade players for nothing, so this is the GM's way around that.

Just for Ottawa to get back to where they were ... they'll need various trade returns to develop into:
<strong>
Karlsson
Stone
Duchene
Hoffman
Dzingel
Turris
Brassard
Bowers
Phaneuf
Wideman
Lazar
Anderson
</strong></div></div>
This is extremely linear thinking they don't need to directly replace those players, they need to find talent and build a competitive team. Each teams contention cycles are going to look different from the last.

(NYR/VAN) - Mazanec for 2020 7th RD pick

But because they had noone to bring up to the NHL and Markstrom got injured, they had to put in a poor DiPietro to get lit up like a Christmas tree. I’m surprised the Rangers couldn’t squeeze out more, Gorton must’ve felt bad.</div></div>
I mean its hard to call a 7th rounder a "mess" its a small blunder for sure, but no one is saying this if Dipietro played well. I doubt any development was harmed and its a very minor asset.

Vegas Golden Knights signed Nate Schmidt (6 Years / $5,950,000 AAV)
Ok I feel the need to point something out here. One thing I will say to all of this, I do not think people are taking into account that Vegas is a brand new franchise, Lets take Cody Glass, the teams first draft pick, for example his ELC won't even start till next season and will run for 3 seasons, in 4 years Vegas will have plenty of space to sign him with the cap dumps they took from teams coming off the books. What I am saying is Vegas does not have to worry about cap space to sign their own draft picks yet, so they can be more aggressive signing their own guys, and what the hell are they gonna spend their money on anyway? Have you guys seen the defensemen class next year, its very barren now, Schmidt likely would have commanded something similar on the open market. Again its either extensions like this or overpay for free agents. If you don't the money is just gonna sit there. In a vacuum this signing is bad but I would rather keep the band together and bet on my own guys.

Ok seriously, what is with people down voting ELC'S? You see a few no's every time a draft pick is signed. Is it draft picks they didn't like? Do they just not know the names? Worried about the contract limit (I know it doesn't count for this year)? WHY SO ANGRY, I just don't get it.....

It is because the deal is prorated for this season. Its 1.2M 1.4M 2M, nice round numbers but because the deal is now prorated it throws the cap hit outta wack, also makes it a different cap hit each year.

Vegas Golden Knights signed Shea Theodore (7 Years / $5,200,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>I'm surprised this deal took so long to materialize. How much more did Theodore want? He only scored 29 points last season in 61 games and saw a ton of PP time on a great team. He's got a high ceiling, but this deal really makes the signings of guys like Seth Jones ($5.4M AAV), Shayne Gostisbehere ($4.5M AAV), and John Klingberg ($4.25M AAV) look like incredible values. Vegas is clearly paying for potential. Theodore's performance to date does not warrant $5.2M AAV for 7 years.</div></div>
I read from multiple sources that apparently the hold-up was that Theodore's camp wanted a two year deal, and Vegas wanted to lock him up long term. Which is strange because I feel like its the players who usually want the longer deals, apparently Vegas won the staredown. Hope that answers your question Brian

Detroit Red Wings signed Dylan Larkin (5 Years / $6,100,000 AAV)
This is a great signing, however I will say that the wings cap mismanagement seems to have precluded them from making a competitive 7 or 8 year offer. To do so would have pushed the AAV to high and they would have struggled to get under the cap this season. I sincerely doubt that putting Franzen on LTIR is enough and there is no way that an NHL team plays with no scratches. So what do you guys think they will do?

I guess my point is idk why people (caps fans none the less) can't appreciate what Orpik did for the team. He killed himself for the team. And like it or not I think other players feed of that. Would I like a squad of 6 young puck moving defensemen? Sure, but there are many things that go into winning in this league and Orpik provides the culture needed while still being a passable 6th/7th defensemen. Now with that said I also think he should not be blocking young guys, all in all though? helluva guy to have around.

I know I might take **** for this but I think this signing is fine, I've watched alot of "Day with the cup" and generic shows on the caps run and he is revered by his teammates . He is also a crazed warrior with what he played through on the cup run. We all have our careers and i think people can relate when there are people at work who are great to work with. We have to remember that these are human beings and the caps struggled mightily to "get over the hump" and guys like this made it possible. So as long as he is not played out of his depth and is 6/7 dman I think this is fine.
