Interested as to why. Jarry is a good goaltending prospect, and has shown he can soon be a number 1 goalie--and is on a cheap contract for three years, plus Florida gets a 3rd round draft pick. He is easily better than Reimer already, and can be a good replacement for a young team in Luongo injuries or meh play. It is a first round pick I agree, but for what you get...

Hutton is benched a lot in Vancouver and is a huge liability. As a converted forward playing defense you expect that but his offensive numbers are also not good. I get that maybe gonchar could work with him and make improvements but he is a project and you don't overpay for a project defenseman in a trade and have to pay him almost 3 mil.
Schultz only cost a 3rd and Edmonton picked up half his contract.
Oleksiak was for a conditional 4th.
Thats what you pay for a project defenseman</div></div>
Fair enough, but you’re trading a project forward who—as Sheary has—hasn’t improved in anyway, a contract that sucks (cap relief) and a fourth to move up in the draft and get a decent project D. And Sheary was a RFA and had a good season like Jarry and got a 3M$ raise.

Hutton also plays on vancouver, and is only 25. Not a bad pickup for depth on defence imo. An upgrade over Hunwick in every respect, and can be good I think. Jarry would get around 900,000-1,000,000. Everyone says he can be a starter somewhere in a year or two and had good stats this year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Eller got three more points than Nelson this year, and a 3% higher corsi, with similar zone starts, only a tiny bit more icetime. Nelson had onemore goal this year, but his goal totals have declined the last two years. Eller's just went up by 50%. If he keeps building on that, while Nelson keeps declining, the Caps are much better off with Eller than Nelson.
That Edmonton trade looks fine, value wise, but trading Holtby should be a last resort way to keep Carlson, not just a way to panic andreplace him. Also this team has only one right handed defenseman. Since Ovechkin seems to prefer to play the left point on the power play, with a right shot at the right point settting him up for one timers, they could use a backup right D, in case Niskanen doesn't play all of the power plays. Klef, Carlson, Niskanen, and Orlov would be a fantastic top four on defense. Trading Holtby to slow the bleeding as Carlson leaves is just kind of sad. Vrana for Puljujarvi? Meh. Again, you've traded for a guy two years younger who scores slightly fewer goals and might have a higher ceiling or might not.
Good effort. Nothing wrong with getting slightly younger peripheral players, but if the Caps feel their chief strength is that their coaches build a consistent defensive team game, then that might not be enough marginal value to justify all the turnover.</div></div>
Solid, I agree with what you’re saying, didn’t see much of that. Thanks for the comments!

I'd go:
Sheary-Crosby-Hornqvist

ZAR-Sheahan-Jooris
Dumoulin-Letang
Oleksiak-Schultz
Maatta-Ruhwedel
That's when healthy, of course. For right now:
Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary
Hagelin-Malkin-Hornqvist
Sheahan-Brassard-Kessel
Kuhnhackl-Jooris-Rowney
Dumoulin-Letang
Oleksiak-Schultz
Maatta-Ruhwedel</div></div>
Hunwick definately wasn’t supposed to be in over Oleksiak. But I agree, I just find Sheahan had great chemistry with a Kessel and Guentzel, but

Lines for NYI
I think the first line is perfect, there is chemistry there, and they are grinders and tough to play against like 2016. The second line has shown to work, but I also think Malkin and Rust could benefit from having Guentzel there and move Hagelin to the third line to get some speed going there. The fourth line to me is good because of Sheahan, I think having Simon there is fine, but I also want to see Jooris in the lineup. Really fast guy, can teach him to PK, and would elevate the speed on the fourth line a lot.

Sheahan is our fourth line centre. I did this on purpose, because Cullen is an upgrade over Rowney, and can play LW as well. it would provide another centerman for PK, and would also benefit in important faceoff implications.

No doubt Sheary has a higher ceiling, but he’s also having a bad year and I feel we would have to pay more to receive a good 3C. That was my only thought, but I agree with you on it all!

When the playoffs come I think he will play just fine. He has confidence, and it takes a good player to play with a Kessel. Like I say, he reminds me of Bonino. If he doesn’t show up for the playoffs then you look at that position in the offseason, but it’s not worth dealing Sprong or Gustavsson and a first round draft pick for. We are slim enough as it is.

My Analysis on Riley Sheahan and the Penguin's Third Line Center Hunt
Bonino won two cups and everyone looks for someone like him. I’ll be realistic, Sheahan is playing better than Bonino was last year. Of course he started slow, he came to a team which was playing terrible and played often with Hagelin and Hörnqvist. He kills penalties, wins face offs, and helps Kessel be better which is what a 3C does. No sense in trading future for high profile UFA’s or rentals.
Ryan will be kept as long as Carolina is in a hunt, and getting Cullen doesn’t excel the lineup, especially when he’s scratched on Minnesota. Letestu would be great cause he can do both 3C and 4C, but Sheahan is a good and serviceable 3C.

I was basing it off the Kessel trade. Kessel brought in a A level prospect, and a first and third really. However, Kessel is a higher profile player, so I thought a young roster player, and a couple A/B level prospects, with a pick was okay but
