Boston Bruins signed Charlie McAvoy (8 Years / $9,500,000 AAV)
It's expensive, but it's well worth it. McAvoy is three years younger than Jones, which should lessen the chance of this turning into an albatross at the end.

Seth Jones got as much as one of the better defenders in the league... yikes
Great deal for Boston. Will age like fine wine.

Expensive, but worth it. Should provide value throughout the entirety of the contract length.

Market was already set but McAvoy is definitely in a class above guys like Nurse and Jones.

Perfect for a top3 D in the league. Now's the time to play on PP1 and hit 60 pts/season.

If you compare to the look a like, hes better than nurse, werenski not makar, he has more term than werenski and makar, we will have McAvoy during all his best years, the only thing i can see wrong is because of injuries history, but if we protect him we will have a really good contract

Fantastic deal. One of the best D in the entire league signed through his prime. Arguably the best 5v5 D in the entire NHL. Excellent, excellent player.
God I hate that he is a Bruin.

Realignment thoughts
Similar to what I was thinking.
This was how I did it.
Also made name changes to the divisions
For the Atlantic or as I like to call it (East Coast Division)
Leafs, Habs, Senators, Wings, Sabers, Bruins, Rangers, Isles
The metro or (The Cosmopolitan Division)
Capitals, Devils, Penguins, Flyers, Lightning, Panthers, Jackets, Hurricanes
For the Pacific or (West Coast Division)
Oilers, Flames, Canucks, Kraken, Sharks, Coyotes, Ducks, Kings
And for the Central or (Cardinal Division)
Knights, Avalanche, Wild, Jets, Stars, Blues, Hawks, Predators
System I use for playoffs is similar to how the NHL did the playin back in 2020. With the current economics thanks to the pandemic I feel its the right time to introduce the format back. More money can be generated through ticket sales making the players, owners, and league very happy.
Kept the number of games the same at 82 and the game format was also left the same.

Realignment thoughts
Honestly its not a bad idea. I think 5 games instead of 4 would balance it out better. But honestly a divisional shift would not be so bad. I have a feeling it will be done in 2025 once team 33 joins.
As one division should not be a cake walk while the other is a blood bath. That aint fair lul.

Realigned 6 Divisions
6 divisions wouldn't work unless we get 4 new NHL teams. Otherwise it becomes an uneven mess that many teams object to. Conference seeding would be cool, but they would have to stay with the divisions they have right now.

Not a Bruins fan but what I think they are doing is saving cap by not signing him until he is fully healed in January-ish

I’d much rather prefer this setup with top 8 teams from each conference making playoffs. I’d rather see this and have 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 for playoffs. I feel like it’s a better setup. Also gets rid of the “weak divisions” idea.

I agree 6 does not work. I don't see any point in making 8 either, although it would work better than 6. However, I find your set-up a little awkward in that Buffalo literally has to fly over / drive through Toronto to get to Ottawa, and Philadelphia is no longer in a division with their state rival (Pittsburgh) or their nearest team (Washington), etc. I would realign your "East" thus:
Toronto
Montreal
Buffalo
Ottawa
Boston
NYR
NYI
NJ
Philly
Pittsburgh
Detroit
Columbus
TB
Florida
Carolina
Washington
Your "West" is better but WOW does Winnipeg have to travel a LOT. This might work better from a purely geographical perspective:
Chicago
Colorado
Minnesota
Winnipeg
Dallas
Arizona/Houston
Nashville
St Louis
Your Pacific NW and Pacific SW divisions are fine.
As I said, I don't really see the point. But it's still fun to think about.

Any downsizing of divisions someone is getting screwed. In this concept you have 7 divisions you can draw a small circle around and 1 iffy one. Going to happen no matter what you do when you have a couple of fairly isolated teams.

WPG kinda gets screwed here
NSH loses 20+ years of rivalries with this alignment too (DAL even more) -- NSH + DAL moving to the east and DET + CBJ to west? I don't love it, and I don't see DET liking that at all.
And uneven divisions again? Nah, not feelin' that.

eichel comes home
Coyle does not waive and Buffalo does not accept.
Not sure why it’s such a tough concept for so many to grasp. Buffalo has to get a a young A to A+ prospect FW with 1st line potential in return. It’s mandatory. The rest of the pieces are negotiable. Boston’s only piece that closely fits that description is Lysell. Not sure if he’s a big enough fish but any Boston trade for Eichel starts with him or ends without him.
Boston is not moving Lysell for an injured Eichel.
Boston does not have the ability to clear 10m in cap space in a way that works without moving Coyle who has no desire to go and Moore who has no value.
It’s a pipe dream.
