The Time is now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pmatychuk13</b></div><div>Okay that's fair enough, do you think if it was two firsts in that deal they would consider? I don't follow CBJ so I'm not sure exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are, but I did hear that maybe they'll be looking at moving Provorov at the deadline potentially opening up a spot on LD. I guess it all depends also where CBJ sees themselves in their rebuild. If Jenner really is not available unless its a massive move then probably not worth it.</div></div>
It's hard to say. I think it's starting to make sense to trade Boone since his value should be pretty darn high to a team that's looking for a cheap middle 6 addition that can play hard minutes in the playoffs. I think what they'd prefer to get in return for him if he is available is a player who is in the 20-24 age range that they have contract control with and would fit in well with the guys who look like the future of the team (Fantilli, Jiricek, KJ, Sillinger, Mateychuk, etc.). Knies would be the player I'd want the Jackets to target on the Leafs, but even at 50% retained on Jenner and with something else added in I really doubt Toronto would go for that.
As for Provorov, he should certainly be on the block either this TDL or next, but even without him the Jackets have so many LD futures lined up. Beyond Werenski they've got Bean, Mateychuk, Svozil, Richard, Christiansen, Berni, Knazko, Bjorgvik Holm, Strathmann, Makarov, and Hreschuk in the system. Adding another young name to that list isn't likely to help them much. I'd say one more young player with legitimate top 6 potential is probably their biggest need right now especially since things with Laine have taken such a huge step back this year from what they were hoping he'd be going forward.

Does this idea work for both sides
Zero chance Edmonton would give up that much. Honestly as surprising as it may be for fans I think Barrie is boarding untouchable territory. Organization loves him by every report I've ever seen.

Potential trade
I don't think Savard is actively being shopped, and Edmundson is 90% more likely to be traded, but I doubt Hughes would pass up an offer he can't refuse. The only problem is since he can speak french, loves the team and city, and has been a great mentor, i think Hughes will want a bit of a premium, so I doubt a team overpays a lot more than his value. I think he's worth like a 2nd and B to C tier prospect, but I doubt Hughes will give him up for anything less than a 1st + B prospect + late pick, maybe he'd even ask more because he brings more value to the team than his trade value would give us. If you added maybe a second to Barrie and Bourgault the deal might work, but I understand why you wouldn't pay that.

As others have said, you can't move the James Neal dead money. And Holland won't trade Broberg for Chychrun.
It really doesn't make a lot of sense for Edmonton to submit the high bid for Chychrun, as they have their top-4 LHD set for the rest of the decade and they don't like playing defensemen on their offside.

Because perennial 50-point defensemen shouldn't make $4.5M? :shakehead

This just isn't true. He's been fine for Edmonton these past 2 years. You must be looking at JFresh charts lol.
In the past 2 seasons he has scored 129, 15-74-89 +7, good for 10th in the league and an 82 game average of 57 points. His on-ice goal differential at 5v5 in that span was 108-95 (+13), and in the playoffs he posted 16-9 goals. At just $4.5M, he's a steal and EXACTLY what a contending team needs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeypal</b></div><div>No I’m looking at all advanced analytics Evolving hockey, J Fresh, Moneypuck etc he’s horrible across the board league bottom horrible. Just watching him is horrible he makes so many terrible turnovers a game. Did you really just put +/- in an argument that’s when I know you’re clueless. He’s not a steal at all if anything he’s overpaid by like 1.5-2 million hes a 2nd assist merchant that’s how he gets points.</div></div>
LOL, you don't know the difference between 5v5 on ice goal differential and traditional +/- and you're calling <em>ME</em> clueless? :tearsofjoy
Barrie has had a positive GF% Rel in 8 of his past 9 seasons in a top-4 role, his offense outweighs his defense. You mention turnovers, but that's more a perception issue on your part than it is a real issue on Barrie's part, as his documented giveaways rate is decent for a player who handles the puck as much as he does.

I don't know how you can justify this egregious statement when John Klingberg - a guy who had fewer goals, primary assists and secondary assists over the past 2 year AND nearly 50% more giveaways - just signed a $7M deal.

I'm saying the line "anyone with a shred of decency agrees with me" is evidence that you're too far-gone, not that you're emotionally driven. And it's libelous for you to call him a domestic abuser, unless he's convicted or has admitted to it. His ex accused him of multiple transgressions (including beating her and betting on his own games), the NHL investigated all of it and came up with nothing. What caused Kane to lose his Sharks contract was violating covid restrictions.

Off season
Some tips I'd give on my research, McLeod contract is too high with too my term for a player that has shown a step from the AHL to the big league this year, I'd give shorter bridge deal with contract between mid 1 million. Kulak isn't my type of veteran D nor is Miller to make this roster better, the perfect name I want is someone like Nick Leddy or trade/sign from the Islanders defence corps. Miller can be really good if he shoots the puck more and continues defensive development under Manson. Husso can be signed by everyone at that price so I see his contract near 5 million give or take. Barrie won't be something a team wants so it'll be a Marleau type deal but not involving 1st rounders going the other way unless an asset comes back. Kassian can't be traded unless key Assets go the other way like a 1st round pick. Foegle isn't special unless our 2nd rounder goes rather than 3rd for Fischer and a 4th or 5th rounder
