Montreal Rebuild
Detroit declines. currently in long term mode. If we were contending for a playoff spot, this would be something to think on. But right now, age plays a huge role in decision making

Detroit loves this.. We can move Bertuzzi for 2 first rounders or a First and a top prospect based on your wilson trade.

Going all in this year on the Free Agents eh???? and nothing really on the backside... So your plan is to score goals and hope the goalie bails us out? Rolling 2 rookies and 2 sophmores on D to carry the back end... LOL

Detroit can live with this. Zadina just needs to add some effort to his game and he could be better. Montreal can take that chance

Would Steve trade the 1st
This is an interesting look. I dont think Winnipeg takes it, but lets say they debate it... Schmidt needs to go because they need the cap space and have a pretty packed set of D back there. Swapping Hronek for Schmidt really doesnt help them since the difference is like $1M. Zadina is a throw away right now.. he is high risk / high reward (boom or bust) so his value is nothing because of how last year went. Veleno looks to be a great depth forward for the future but cant replace Dubois. Overall your really using 3 future top 50 picks (including and 8th OA) to obtain Dubois.
If I am Winnipeg I say no, the value isnt there... But if I am Detroit, I wouldnt do it because of the rebuild and picks are important. We arent in a position to give up high picks for players right now.
This trade doesnt work for either team in my opinion

Id rather give up a pick than 3 years of a salary retention. I know its only $2M and we have alot of cap, but I value the flexibility.

What does a Monahan deal look like
Don't forget about what Fabbri and Vrana became after an Yzerman move. This would be a good deal for Detroit if they moved a 5th, 6th or 7th just for Monahan nothing retained. The risk vs reward for Detroit to "pay" for Monahan isnt so bad. The likely hood of a 5th, 6th, 7th round pick making it in the NHL is not very good. Calgary being in a spot that requires them to move his contract works for Detroit to gain more from Calgary. Id look for Calgary to maybe send back a 4th or 5th with Monahan, Detroit gives them future considerations... That would be a win. Overall though, like I said, worst case I would be ok with Yzerman giving up a 6th straight up. Its a one year deal, we have the room, experiment on this one.. say "but what if"... nothing to really lose

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>I'm not a fan of Petry to Detroit ideas either as I wouldn't want my non-contending team to trade for a guy beyond the age of its core. I simply dislike when Detroit fans act like Petry is an abomination while in fact he's a Top 2 defenseman on many NHL teams. He's a high caliber defenseman who in no way should be in the same sentence as DeKeyser and Staal. Those two are employed for veteran presence, Petry is employed for still being a very good defender.</div></div>
IF Detroit landed Petry, I would play him every night, not arguing there. I also would have played Stetcher every night, who was a healthy scratch after returning from injury and showed what he can do in LA. I think most people in Detroit see us getting away from the highly paid older players and sticking with veterans who provide the learning experience to the young players at this point. Like i said before, the part I am most hung up on is the trade itself. I wouldnt let Zadina go for just Petry. I would rather see what happens with a new coach and lose him for nothing if he cant get it together. But the floor/ceiling for Zadina just doesnt match a one for one with Petry. Good player, just not what Detroit would move Zadina for. Schmitt, Martinez, Pettersson are all guys who could fit, carry less term and money, and wouldnt need Zadina in the mix to get.

I like the Toronto play. highly unlikely, but instead of a pick and Mrazek, you are getting a guy you have been able to see play at the NHL and AHL level so you know what your getting. My only thought on that would be we are pretty loaded with D prospects and guys likely to stick around. The biggest holes are really related to having a Center and a veteran defenseman to teach these young guys better positioning. we gave up alot of easy goals last year because we were regularly out of position. Its just because they are all young and just need more time / guidance.
No way that gets you Schmaltz. that is two players worth 0 so its pretty much a filler, a AHL lifer and a 2nd for Schmaltz.
And Copp isnt giving us a home town discount. He will get upwards of $5-5.5 just based on his late season run after the trade deadline, even though i think hes still a $4.5M (tops) player.

He'd be Detroit's 2nd best D by a quite a fair margin.</div></div>
He would be in Detroits top 4, which isnt hard to do.. What Im trying to explain to you is that the trade is very lopsided for a guy that doesnt fit what Detroit is currently attempting to do. He would be our new Dekeyser / Stall.. Being benched may be extreme, but the young guys are getting time in the lineup, so its not too far off. Overall the trade doesnt benefit Detroit in any way to move forward.

Zadina straight up doesnt get Fiala.. Fiala's value is peak right now for him and Zadina is pretty close to the floor. one coming off a great season, the other still a boom/bust situation. Too risky for Minnesota who would get a better offer elsewhere.
New Jersey would likely accept that IF Bertuzzi agreed to sign long term. That being said, i think that is an overpayment for the #2 pick who isnt a sure shot guarantee.
I dont know that Ekman-Larsson fits our needs being 30 and a $7M cap hit. I dont think that gets you him either. 5 years at $7M is not something Yzerman is signing up for. Not sure if you have been paying attention, but not 1 guy is extended past 3 years right now. He is building this team how he wants it and i dont think a 30 year old with term is it.

Ill help explain.. your offer is the same as: Detroit offering you Danny Dekeyser with 2 years at $6.2M for Rem Pitlick... WHAT WOULD DEKEYSER DO FOR MONTREAL? the same as Petry would do in Detroit.

Detroit says No F'n Way, one of the worst trade offers I have seen... You want this trade to happen your tossing in next years 1st as well. Petry has negative value where as Zadina is still in a boom/bust opportunity with an amazing team friendly contract coming up. Please explain to me HOW each team would actually benefit from this trade? The only thing you got right was his contract will likely be around $1.5M for 2 years.
Literally there is NO risk in keeping Zadina, him sucking and just letting him walk later compared to getting a contract from Montreal for a player who is not even remotely close to the age or style of the core making him useless to detroit... My fix for your trade offer is keeping Zadina and giving Staal another contract for 1 year at $2M.

And they were both taken higher the Edvinsson. He MAY become a good player her MAY not. He was the third defenseman taken in his draft. All I'm saying is Stevie Y has traded high picks before and that it could come back that Sergachev was a better player then Edvinsson. If the Wings keep their current roster and wait for all their prospects you will be out of the playoffs for three more years and if you don't see that you do not know hockey out of the state of Michigan.</div></div>
LMAO I love the trolling, you either know nothing about hockey or you love the drama... either way Sergachev doesnt solve a problem. The sacrifice is higher. Detroit with Berggren and Edvinsson is better than Detroit with Sergachev. He is not making this difference that your claiming... Not at the cost. Happy without him unless the offer changes. As is, Detroit goes backwards
