St. Louis Blues signed Jay Bouwmeester (1 Year / $3,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>You are looking at possession metrics not defense. Those are 2 completely different stats. Possession Metrics does not have anything to do with Offense. He isn't great on offense, but he is one hell of a defender which is what I said.</div></div>
Giving up less shots than how many you're generating is a very important part of being a "shutdown" defenseman. (See Mark Giordano, Brian Dumoulin, Hampus Lindholm, etc.)
Anyway, for one year, it's not the end of the world, but still, he's sub-replacement level at three times the price.

(VAN/PIT) - Gudbranson for Pearson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tatatavares</b></div><div>
Both have played 6 games. It's early, but there is a good chance of this trade working out for both teams.
Let this be a lesson to all the negative nancies who pooh-pooh any potential trade. You can't win anything if you don't take action, and there's no trophy for the person who wishes the hardest to get the lopsided trade of their dreams. A dozen opinions on a forum weigh up to diddly squat in reality.
It's so comfortable to go after UFAs, but most of them end up being anchors. A GM with guts can get a better deal in the trade market.</div></div>
Never, never, never judge a performance by a sample size of so few games. Yes, he's played well for six games. Compare that with over 400 games where he was actively hurting his team just being on the ice. Not to mention, you might want to look at his PDO during his time with the Penguins: it's 105.6, more than 7 points above his career average.

Mixed feelings about this one. Great player, but is he going to be worth that through his age-34 season? I don't know.

Why is he taking a pay cut after the last three seasons he's had? He could have gotten 5 or 6 million in free agency, easily. Maybe more.

Probably not, considering the quantity of goalies heading to free agency this offseason. Still though, I'm surprised he didn't at least test the waters.
