Nobody is trading Clayton Keller.... I like the Yamamoto deal though. Makes a ton of sense all around.

So, because Keller was bummed about the vote, he's leaving a franchise that's being built around him specifically? Lol no.

I was just curious because COL is in a serious cap crunch that isn't getting better anytime soon - and Toews is due for a good raise after this upcoming season whereas Girard has 4 more years. So they don't have much leverage on their trades which could lower the value a little.</div></div>
I wouldn't describe the cap crunch as "huge". if the cap doesn't go up $4M this summer, it likely goes up $8M next year. It'll be tough, but they can probably find a way to make Toews work... That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see them move him and keep Girard's more favourable contract.

He's had a couple poor seasons, so his value is probably at the lowest it's been in a while. Regardless, he's still a fairly young, legit top 4 defenseman and the change of scenery could bring a return to form. The Pens might take that.
I doubt it. Toews would probably be the best defenseman on quite a few teams.</div></div>
The thing Girard has going for him, above all, is cost control. He's a really good player, under contract until 2027 for just $5M.

I might. I'm really on the fence between those two. Toews is a much better defender, but Girard has a much better contract.

That's fun... Devon Toews is one of the top defensive dmen in the entire NHL on a sweetheart contract... so, let's not start with the comparable. This trade is an easy "No" for the Avs.

Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I'd 100% take Girard for the LAK 1st, but I doubt Colorado goes for it. We could use an actual defensive-minded 2LD (Z is almost a rover and Gavvy was both more offensively gifted and less defensively gifted than people give him credit for), and Girard is locked up for a while at a good AAV and fits the timeline.
If you want centers, we could do Roslovic half-retained or Foudy, but I don't know if either interest Colorado. Would the LAK 1st, Roslovic ($2M retained), and a 2nd or 3rd get it done for Girard? If you're looking to move him, CBJ are interested, but it's got to be for pieces we might actually move. What's essentially "you're stupid for not trading a borderline-untouchable piece for this" isn't in good faith.</div></div>
There could be something there with Roslovic. Not for the 2C role, but it would be a cap savings and Colorado could also use some depth scoring. I would entertain that. It could free the Avs up to make another move for a 2C.

I’d still do it. It’s not like the Avs are desperate to bring a defenseman into the lineup.
In fact, Helleson and Behrens might be more aligned with Colorado’s timeline.

That’s a good point on Barron. It depends on who they end up trading with. If it’s Philly or Vancouver, I could see both of those teams holding out for Barron b/c they’re both looking for NHL ready prospects.

I love Burakovsky, but if/when Kadri leaves they'll need to replace him at C... And I think Nichushkin should be the priority over Burky. Nichushkin is the better 200 ft player, and his cost is likely lower. I also think with Newhook and Olausson on the way up, Burakovsky's offense can be replace. I don't think they have the pieces to replace everything Nichushkin does, especially without Kadri.

Filling Holes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>Georgiev has been awful. I might take a flyer on him as an addition to Kuemper and Francouz, but I wouldn't trade the latter and rely on him.
I like the DeBrusk addition, but I'm not sure the trade makes sense. If it's Compher and a kicker, then I'm in. Not sure I want to give up a couple good prospects though, and I'm also not sure Boston would be looking for just futures.
Kulak for cheap (like a 4th or 5th) is fine I guess. My biggest concern here would be cap space and whether it could be better utilized elsewhere. Plus I feel like Johnson, Murray, and MacDonald give the team pretty decent depth options when there are injuries.
Overall I think you are focused on the right holes for the most part. The only one of these acquisitions I'm really in favor of though is the DeBrusk one.</div></div>
Kulak would be a great acquisition provided Ryan Murray is out long-term. Last I read, it doesn't look good. Jack Johnson had an okay start, but he's not good enough to be in the top 6 full time. I'm not married to Kulak, but I was trying to find pending UFA's on a team that's probably not going to make the playoffs.
Maybe you could play around with some of the trade values, but I think Georgiev would have more success in Colorado. The Rangers leak scoring chances more than almost anyone. He'd be an upgrade on Frankie, and he's 25, and under team control after this season.
And yeah, I love the thought of Jake DeBrusk in an Avs jersey.

I think they're getting a lot of that out of Nic Aube-Kubel. He's a buzzsaw out there. I like the chemistry he and Jost have... And Darren Helm has been a revelation on the PK. I like way their fourth line looks when they're at full health, we just haven't seen that this year so far.

I do like the idea of Kessel though.</div></div>
No. It's an 8 team TRADE list... not an 8 team NO TRADE list. That's only 8 teams he's willing to go to. The competition isn't that great. I wouldn't give up more than this for Kessel.

Then AZ can keep him... Maybe you can change the prospect. But I'm not giving up much more than that for an all offense 34 year old on the last year of his contract. Especially considering he has an 8 team trade list. That's not a lot of competition.

Why Not
John Gibson isn't going anywhere in a trade that doesn't contain multiple first round picks... plus at least two high end prospects. Likely more than that if they're taking Murray's contract back.
