Carolina Fans -- My Thoughts in Description
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nbass</b></div><div>i don't think that the canes would ship out a first in a deep class (especially since one of the picks will be in the lottery) and tieksola, who should be a little higher on the list but due to the amount of solid prospects isn't. Personally, the prospect would be someone like clark bishop, anton forsberg, or maybe oliwer kaski. All players that could be on a roster with kaski having good potential as a puck moving d-man
but what do I know</div></div>
It's being reported today that Carolina is shopping that extra 1st rounder though, just fyi. Hmm. You think one of Toronto or Carolina misses? It seems to me like they have a pretty solid shot to both be in it, but it'll certainly come down to the wire. Either way, that's why I said "worse". There's no way they get rid of a lottery pick, you're absolutely right.
One of the most fun times of the season!

My take is, since the Carolina guys seem to be miffed about the first, let's make them happy and take the 2020 second from the Rangers and their 2021 second. And then give them our 2020 fourth instead of the third.

I'd be interested in something like that. The whole point of retaining, taking on salary, and sending a pick the other way is to upgrade into the first round. If the asking price is already two 2nds and a prospect, I'd settle for the two picks you mentioned and not sending one back the other way. I'd even be tempted to take some of the retention away, like $1mil instead of $2mil, to make it an even salary swap.

He'll be in the NHL next season if not after the deadline. Last i checked he's about a point per game in the AHL

I think the Kings will get one of Lafreniere, Stützle, or Perfetti in the draft, any of which would look good next to Vilardi or Turcotte

You have a higher opinion of Kupari than I do. I'm not convinced he's a NHL top six forward. I sure hope he is, but he hasn't shown that he's top six material in the AHL, let alone the NHL.
It's far more likely that we see Vilardi on the RW instead of Kupari.

Not enough for Martinez by himself, let alone with retention and Clifford.
Calgary trade is what Lebrun proposed along with a conditional 4th, but I feel he severely undervalued Toffoli when looking at it through the lens of sending him to a division rival. Just like he severely undervalued Kase's trade. There was a comment from an NHL executive that said something along the lines of "If you're adding a 4th rounder, its because you aren't offering enough and you know it." That's definitely the case here.

Why so much hate on Kovalchuk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>I've only watched a few games since he signed with the Habs but he was excellent in those games, saying that I think the most the Habs will get for him if he's traded is a 3rd round pick.
A lot of the hatred for him is cause he's Russian.</div></div>
And a further lot of the hatred for him was created by people in Los Angeles trying to advance an excuse for misusing him.
Note that even factoring in his stint earlier with the Kings, he's still a pace for 23 goals and 52 points if he'd been able to play a full season. As it is, assuming he tails off and records points at an 80% rate of what he's already banked this year, he'll end with about 9 goals and 25 points, which isn't bad for exactly half a season.

His value has gone up not 100% due to his play but more the fact that he is now making minimum wage to go along with being half productive. He gets a third round pick easily. Second could be a stretch but if a team gets desperate

Seems like a fine B prospect (2nd pairing two-way type), he's more a passer than a shooter so not a real PP quaterback in the making but his injuries are already starting toslow his development.
Tatar= 1st, B prospect, 4th (Fair value)

I mean, value's fine it's only the prospect that I'd change but that's personnal to each.

Trades and postdeadline lines
Kings will likely target a different prospect for Toffoli. LD is not a position of need for them.
Martinez trade seems reasonable, if not a bit of an overpayment.
I'm sure LA would consider that return for Carter if there's no salary retention, but if they're retaining 50% salary for the next 2½ years, there's going to be more/better coming back.
The rest of those returns are fine. If they do acquire that many picks, they'll be spread out over several years, as 18 picks in one draft just isn't feasible. You're only allowed to have so many players under contract or on the reserve list at a time and adding that many at once isn't realistic.
