2023 Lightning Offseason Discussion
Just putting this here cause I thought it was cool, from Chris Kenn "For everyone asking, the #Bolts did have 23 on the roster when it was submitted to the league. They accomplished this with a paper transaction that sent Merela to Syracuse as he doesn’t require waivers. Now, he’s back on the roster & corresponding moves will follow in short order"
Tampa's being praised on twitter for the watson contract and how they maximized LTIR space which I didn't understand initially. The Watson move was to maximize Seabrook's cap hit not Vasilevskiy's. They sent Merela down so it was Watson, ABB and Fleury as the extras with Tomkins in and Vasilevskiy on IR. This left them was $2 cap hit left thus successfully maximizing whatever space they could of Seabrook's LTIR pool. Then they moved Vasilevskiy to LTIR and quickly recalled Merela back up. I guess since during the season they don't have to be right at the ceiling, when Vasilevskiy comes back they could just send Merela back down and have the +2$ left or if they really like Merela they send down two of ABB/Watson/Fleury

Anyone criticizing the Leafs for not locking him up from 31 - 34 is legit hilarious.
John Tavares is currently 32 ... and his contract expires when he's 34.
How long has Tavares been "too old, too slow, and over payed?"
A 4 - 5 year term was always the ideal outcome for Toronto.</div></div>
I understand this. I just think it's kinda crazy

Well, i'm not saying it def will, but it could, depending on the kind of money he ends up wanting, and how much the cap actually increases. I did just really look at it though and it doesn't look as tight as I thought it was

Love this deal for Hagel and the TBL. Extremely underrated player. His 2-way game is amazing. Could you squeeze his expiry RFA year, SURE. But you risk so much more in the long run. Lock him up. It's not like TBL has any decent prospect coming up.

Thread:
(NSH/TBL) - Jeannot for Foote, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
There was sticker shock with this trade due to the quantity of picks. If Nashville put out a memo that they would trade all those picks in a package deal for a 2023 1st, I don't think anyone would take them up on it. The 3rd/4th/5th are all at the end of the round. The 1st is protected so it is anywhere from 2-3 years away. The 2nd is a year away and is probably also going to be at the end of the round.
The above is the reason why Tampa had to give up such a strange package. Nashville was probably asking for something like a 2023 1st, and both sides had to get creative. Whether it was the wrong player to go after or not, the picks aren't nearly the value people made them out to be. If Tampa traded a late 1st for Jeannot, people wouldn't care nearly as much despite a late 2023 1st arguably being more valuable than this entire package.

Not to hijack but I was gonna sit them out of the playoffs, then I saw what their healthy roster - defense - will be. They crushed free agency in my opinion. That’s a scary team when they’re all back.
