Niederreiter to Colorado
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rcsherwo</b></div><div>As the roster stands right now, with KK on the books $6.1m, we (Canes) are only -$1,523,618 over the cap. You are correct if we bury him, we would be -$398,618. However, most people seem to forget a few things about Gards, and our contract situation in general.
-If Gards goes to the LTIR, which has been WIDELY reported, even by the team, the Canes will have $2,526,382 in cap space.
-If Gards can prove he is healthy, we have plenty of assets/prospects to move him and could even retain the maximum 50% of his salary.
We have absolutely no reason to ship Nino out.</div></div>
Thanks for clarifying, that makes a lot of sense.

Great contract for Svechnikov. This makes up for the bad Ned trade. My favorite canes player from my 2nd favorite team.

Great deal for a budding superstar. Svech is one of my favorite players in the league and Canes are one of my fave teams. Hopefully you guys land Tarasenko since Boston is obviously out of the picture

Why we needed cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rcsherwo</b></div><div>Problem is that deHaan is also out until November/December with his 3rd surgery on the same sholder. The team may not think he will ever be the same again. Also his contract was back loaded with actual cash so this was a money deal more than anything. It may have taken adding Saarela in order for anyone to take DeHaan, who may not ever be the same player and is also going to miss half the season.</div></div>
Entirely possible, i think Saarela will end up being more valuable than the 2 they got. Time will tell. Forsberg will be the key. If he becomes a serviceable NHL goalie for them then it will be ok at least.

I would understand it a lot more had they not included Saarela. De haan for Forsberg and Forsling was a fair trade. Decent #2 d man For a pair of tweeners and gaining cap space. Adding Saarela was overkill. Montreal has been clamoring for a LD. They would have given a better package for De haan straight up.

Carolina Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rcsherwo</b></div><div>I can understand why all you WPG fans fell bad after yesterday. It was the Skinner trade 2.0, where the guy getting traded really limits the return due to a NMC. It sucks and the rest of the league only sees Trouba for X, not Trouba for X + extenuating circumstances.
That being said, we have an incredibly deep prospect pool right now, our AHL team just won the Calder Cup and the Canes made the ECF. I do not see a way that we trade Pesce to upset the balance of the locker room. He is Salvin's best friend and was an integral part to our team turning things around, plus he is on an amazing team friendly contract. I think the fan base would riot if we traded Pesce and I think the FO knows that.
Not that I don't think the value is fair, it probably is, but long term team friendly contracts on a top pair RD are worth alot more than a winger in the current state of the NHL, even though Ehlers is amazing. Ive always had a soft spot for WPG though, I hope you guys have a great season next year.</div></div>
Very well said and I do agree 100%. I highly doubt it will be for Pesce but a deal for Hamilton or Faulk is feasible. I love watching the Canes, they have a very bright future ahead!

I watched Feogle play junior in Kingston. Will he be a top 6 foward? Probably not. But the guy is a workhorse, strong on the puck, and plays 200 feet. Seriously underrating a player who should round out to be a really good 3rd line option.

Guys.. Aho is not C..
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rcsherwo</b></div><div>I can tell you don't watch the Canes very much. As a lifelong Canes fan and season ticket holder, I can safely say you are wrong about Aho playing center. He was the BEST center we had on our team the last 2 months of the season when Billy Peters finally let him play there. The organization has been saying for 3 straight years "we view him as a center in this league" and have already said he will get he first shot at 1C this season.
OH not to mention he anchored the top line for Finland as 1C in IIHF and finnished (pun intended) with 18 points in 8 games, to lead the entire tourny. He also has played center his entire career minus the last two years while he transitioned to the NHL. He is ready now.
Your point about him lacking defensive ability against top lines is also just plain wrong, I have no idea where you got that from.
And why in the ever living hell would we split up Aho/TT. They easily have the BEST chemistry of two forwards we have had in a Canes uniform in many years. They compliment eachother extremely well and make each better on the ice. There is a less than zero percent chance Teravaho is broken up this year.
I understand these are your opinions and you are entitled to them, I dont mean any offense but your analysis seems to be misguided.
Aho IS our 1C of the future and he will play there the whole year coming up, you can count on that.</div></div>
Couldn't have said it better myself

MTL #2 trade, CAR, OTT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rcsherwo</b></div><div>Few things here. We are not rebuilding, we have been rebuilding for 4+ years. We are only a few pieces away from being playoff competitive. We have a very skilled young core at FWD with Svechnikov on the way and a top 5 prospect in the NHL with Necas. Same with DEF, Slavin, Pesce, Hanifin, Faulk (maybe), Fleury, and Bean on the way. We are trying to compete now and this trade does not help in any way. The new owner has already said we are not going to be a budget team anymore, in case you haven't heard. There is literally no reason to think we need help hitting the cap floor, that's just bad info. We have 3 top RFAs that need money and could easily go after veteran help in UFA. We want young players with potential to compete and that's all we will trade our assets for. Faulk would fit very well in a CHI lineup but this just doesn't get it done imo</div></div>
I agree with you here. Plus, Faulk is much more valuable. This is no offense to Blackhawks fans but they can’t seem to get that they won’t get him unless they give up a lot. Faulk is so good. Most underrated defenseman in the league. Carolina just wants to go younger and Faulks value is like 2 1st rounds and a good forward..

Dream Summer Trades (EDM + WSH + CHI)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Doesn't play defense? He's Edmonton's shutdown forward. He was consistently matched up against top competition all last season, last playoffs, and this season until he was hurt. He's one of the better 2-way C's that might be available this summer. He was on pace for over 60pts this season (without playing with McDavid) before getting hurt. Don't assign a value to a player if you aren't going to research that player. You obviously don't know who or what Nugent-Hopkins is as a player.</div></div>
No research? 39 takeaways and 38 giveaways. highest points total in his 7 career is 56 points...twice. He's 17th on his own team in hits. I don't need any research to tell me the opposing teams shutdown forwards go against McDavid because McDavid is awesome. Also, just google Edmonton Oilers Shutdown Line. First thing that pops up... Puckprose 3 burning questions... #3 "Will RNH thrive in his new role as a shutdown forward? It hasn't gone as well as planned, but were optimistic for his future" ...so...EDM doesn't even think RNH is a shutdown forward. I'm not bringing up Corsi or PDO because there are too many factors like Talbot not having a good year or Kris Russell's secret desire to be a roaming goalie himself. :)

Would Carolina Do This Deal?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rcsherwo</b></div><div>Maybe. We would need to find something to do with Darling and that may be difficult. I would imagine ward isn't going anywhere though I would be happy if we moved on from him. Kokes is a pretty highly regarded prospect to us as well but I'm happy the value is getting closer than the recent Hanifin+ for ROR. Personally I'd take this deal.....</div></div>
I would have no issue taking Darling on, but the issue there is he has a No Trade clause, he could refuse a deal to Buffalo.
But Personally, I think something around Faulk and ROR is extremely fair. Hanifin in a deal for ROR would be trade rape by Buffalo, and the Sabres would have to add a lot for a player that in three years could become one of the top ten defenseman in the game.

not sure if the vegas thing is just to get them to take staal, but looks like giving up too much for that. take out the #1 and I think it works because nyr do have a bunch of G prospects so losing Halverson isn't completely devastating.
you got waaaaaaaaaaaaay too little for stepan. I know he was a failure in the playoffs but the stats are what they are, he's a legit c1 or at worst c2. I do think they need to move him before nmc kicks in, but they would rightfully need to get a lot more than faulk - and if you throw in Gilmour who has a lot of potential, I think a #1 in return is completely reasonable</div></div>
You think Faulk is too little for Stepan?? What stats are you talking about? Is it the career high goals in a season of 22, or maybe the career faceoff % of 45 that scream "1C"? Faulk is consistently a top scoring D man in the league. Second this past season in goals with 17 - which by the way, was the same amount Stepan scored as a "1C".
Sorry, but Faulk is much more valuable than Stepan
