He was also asked to waive his NMC apparently in trade talks with Vegas, per Friedman (I think), so there is def smoke coming from TB

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>etpeck</b></div><div>Where have all these stamkos rumors come from all of the sudden? Don’t hate the idea if the cost is not to steep. The injury risk has to be baked into his value. Tampa isn’t going to want to take back any salary I’d assume</div></div>
The Athletic released an article yesterday about the Canes draft process and this was said in it. "Dundon takes a chair near the door and settles into his role as moderator. If there is an NHL owner who takes a more hands-on approach to things like the draft, we are unaware of who that owner is. Dundon opens discussions by outlining his plans to ensure the Hurricanes are part of the conversation if a certain top NHL star on a team with a world of salary cap issues formally comes onto the marketplace as has been rumored to be the case."

I think sending Trocheck and Bokk + picks would get it done from the Canes side, not sure about what TB fans think. Trocheck is a very capable C and it would save TB almost 4m a year

I think you're right abour Reimer, for this to work we need to cut 4ish m in cap space. How the Canes do that could be accomplished in alot of ways. This was from the athletic article this morning, im speculating they are referring to Stamkos, but it sounds like they would be all in if he is available.

Yep, with all the UFAs and Buyouts coming off the books next year, we will have 20m+ in cap space to retool the goalies and sign dougie/svech. Gives us a pretty nice 4-5 year window with the core group.

Oh yeah
Why on earth would the Canes do this? I just don't see how a -33 player is worth a former 1st rounder playing pretty well in the AHL, a 1st round pick and a good AHL veteran D (who is also the captain of the AHL team).

Can tell you don't really follow the Canes trading Marty away. He is the glue that holds our locker room together, he is going nowhere.
That being said, would love to see us OS Laine, especially with an extra 1st in hand from the Marleau trade. Dont think there is any way on this sweet earth Dundon would take on Lucic's contract though.

but he doesnt need 600m....he needs 23m and we have sold 3x the amount of season tickets this season, as we did last season due to the success we had last year. So that ticket sales # that was being thrown around, is not accurate at all for next season. "Last year the renewal rate for Carolina Hurricanes season tickets was 72 percent. This year, they're at 91 percent. New plans sold? Up 262 percent."
Plus....I wonder how much money the team made making it to the Conference Finals last year? How much did MTL make in the playoffs? If you think Tommy D cant pay for that contract, I want what you're smoking.

Lol it's almost like our owner isn't a billionaire who didn't just light $70 million on fire for an experiment with a competing football league.....but 23m is hard to come by?

Why we needed cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>I would understand it a lot more had they not included Saarela. De haan for Forsberg and Forsling was a fair trade. Decent #2 d man For a pair of tweeners and gaining cap space. Adding Saarela was overkill. Montreal has been clamoring for a LD. They would have given a better package for De haan straight up.</div></div>
Problem is that deHaan is also out until November/December with his 3rd surgery on the same sholder. The team may not think he will ever be the same again. Also his contract was back loaded with actual cash so this was a money deal more than anything. It may have taken adding Saarela in order for anyone to take DeHaan, who may not ever be the same player and is also going to miss half the season.

Carolina Trade
I can understand why all you WPG fans fell bad after yesterday. It was the Skinner trade 2.0, where the guy getting traded really limits the return due to a NMC. It sucks and the rest of the league only sees Trouba for X, not Trouba for X + extenuating circumstances.
That being said, we have an incredibly deep prospect pool right now, our AHL team just won the Calder Cup and the Canes made the ECF. I do not see a way that we trade Pesce to upset the balance of the locker room. He is Salvin's best friend and was an integral part to our team turning things around, plus he is on an amazing team friendly contract. I think the fan base would riot if we traded Pesce and I think the FO knows that.
Not that I don't think the value is fair, it probably is, but long term team friendly contracts on a top pair RD are worth alot more than a winger in the current state of the NHL, even though Ehlers is amazing. Ive always had a soft spot for WPG though, I hope you guys have a great season next year.

I'm not sure this benefits the Canes really. We have a completely stocked system already and a mid 1st just complicates things more. Plus we have 4 picks in the first two rounds already. If Bean is getting moved its for an upgrade on offense imo.

He will be 38 to start next season. While I think Willy will resign on 1-year deals until he decides to hang them up and retire as a Cane, Rod told him a few days ago to take two months and decide if you want to come back or not.
