No not for the price it would cost against the cap it doesn't. Norris has a long-term contract, he will be playing again eventually. It just makes no sense for Ottawa to spend over $4M on a small, aging center when Ottawa will alreafy have more productive, younger, and cheaper options. Ottawa could've had Pageau for a song before last season and turned it down. The need for a guy like Pageau is even less now than it was before last season.

Yeah Ottawa isn't taking on Pageau. Especially with how well Ostapchuk showed while called up. Stutzle, Norris, Pinto, Greig, Giroux, Kastelic, MacEwen, & Ostapchuk are all centers the team will be looking at next training camp.

Ottawa won't be touching Gauthier even if Evason does get the job. We almost had a "Gauthier" with Joseph this past offseason, no way Ottawa lands themselves in a spot with a $2M bottom six player who can't score and can't defend. Evason is also a long-shot for the job.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AnonymousSensFan</b></div><div>Bad trades dude.
We want nothing to do with PLD. I'd rather super glue Norris' shoulder back together than do PLD.
Whitecloud is on a really good deal and much more valuable than JBD (and I'm a JBD fan). Vegas ain't trading him, let alone paying to do so.
The Weegar ship sailed when he signed with Flames. As long as Calgary doesn't rebuild, he won't be moved. Even if they wanted to, he's a really good RD so it would cost a lot to get him, and Chychrun's value isn't great.
I doubt we get a 6th for Forsberg.
Pinto doesn't sign for that little. He's been playing 1C. If he signs longterm, expect a couple more million on that AAV</div></div>
1) P-L Dubois is a big center who has a defensive conscience who can kill penalties. He's just not a good fit in L.A. Ottawa is barren of top 6 prospects need a replacement for Norris as he is a top 6 center.
2) Whitecloud is a great defenseman... Vegas is in cap hell, they'd like to keep their wiondow open. With less than $10M to fill out 7 spots they have to trim around the edges. Whitecloud is their 6th defenseman with suimilar players in their pipeline they will nbeed to make room for. $2.75M is a lot to pay for a 6th defenseman for a team with no cap space. Whitecloud also has a long-term which would be a little dangerous because not all players who do well as the 6th defenseman perform well when moved up the latter on a less talented team.
3) Agree on Weegar, but there were whispers he might want out until they started winning again. Cgy is rumoured to be still shopping Markkanen, and heard Kadri's name so Calgary might actually be in for a rebuild.
4) Chychun's value isd just fine. He hit double digits in goals which teams love, I believe he's 3rd in defenseman PP scoring. Only being 26 many teams would love to grab him. His value will be high at the draft. Plus defenseman that can play both sides makes them even more valuable, even if he is better on the LD side.

I'm saying he is in that mold of player. Like I said players that play the type of gme like Tkachuk are hard to find today. Back when Lindros played there was Tochet, Leclaire, Iginla.... Today? You have Tkachuk and Tom Wilson, and Wilson doesn't put up nearly the points Tkachuk does.

- take chances : of course but when you miss on pretty much all your "chances", that's the problem
- coaching : yes and it has been one of Dorion's biggest shortcomings
- DeMelo : hindsight maybe for you but many Sens fans (on another forum I have a member for 15+ years) found the move stupid (like a million other Dorion moves) WITHOUT the benefit of hindsight
- DeBrincat : it looks like his mind was already set on going UFA to sign with Detroit. Giving up a 7th OA for 1 year of a player when you miss the playoffs is totally among the reasons why the rebuild stalled
You're right that things could have ended up better with different coaching but Dorion decided to sink or swim with Dorion and he sank.</div></div>
That is ludicrous to think his mind was made up. DeBrincat even hinted he was willing to stay but wanted a massive payday. Dorion believed he would be able to get him signed. Sometimes that's the risk you have to take. Like I said, if this team had a coach that was semi-decent at teaching a defensive structure? We wouldn't be anywhere near where we are in the standings. So most of his moves weren't bad, but became sour with one main decision he refused to acknowledge. One mistake makes many of his moves look worse than they really were.

This is a guy who has been to the Stanley Cup Conference Finals twice, and produced both years. Ottawa's issues defensively isn't as much personnel as it is coaching. We do need to bring in 1-2 guys solid on the PK. We don't have enough grit on defense, I agree there, but Kleven comes in for Brannstrom, and bring a guy like Tanev
Chabot - Karlsson
Sanderson - Tanev
Kleven - Zub
That would be a solid a defense corpse if you have a coach that knows how to institute structure. Ottawa doesn't need a coach that is full on defense, because Ottawa is a team that isn't built to win that way. We need to be a puck control team that has structure, and strong special teams. Gallant, Quennville, Boudreau, McLellan would be solid coaching selections.

How was this not a disaster? Pretty much every Sens fan think it is, except a few Dorion die hard fans still in denial.
The problem with DeMelo was not acquiring him, it was to trade him stupidly for a 3rd round pick when we could use him up to this day... Dorion basically chose Nikita Zaitsev over him
And Duchene... I mean, we paid a 4th OA pick + Turris (look what he returned) + recent 1st round pick (Bowers) + 3rd to get him. All we have left now is Lassi Thomson
Stone... all we have left is Erik Brannstrom (I like him but you need to get A LOT more than that for a franchise player like Stone)
Murray when acquired was already the most injury prone player in the NHL. Not only that, the contract Dorion gave him was absolutely horrendous and ended up costing a 3rd + 7th to dump 75% of the final 2 years
Nothing wrong in taking risks (I play with Crypto) but problem is that Dorion nearly bats for ZERO when he takes risks.
Dj Smith was not the main issue, he was one of MANY Dorion issues.</div></div>
No It's not the disaster it was because if you're going to win in this league you have to take chances. The real issue is that the team hasn't progressed the way it was supposed to. This team does not have a talent issue. Our issues are coaching. I don't care what moves you make? When you rank 26th or worse on both special teams? You cannot win in this league. To start the year Ottawa was surrendering 28 high danger chances a game!! That is coaching!!
As for Demelo? I liked Demelo and like you would've preferred to have kept him. Unfortunately you don't seem to understand the definition of hindsight? When he was traded we had defenseman like JBD, Brannstrom, Englund, and Jaros in the pipeline who many believed had good upside. BUT AGAIN!!! Under DJ Smith not one single defenseman in the organization progressed. Under DJ Smith's reign not one single defenseman ever became better than they were. That is coaching. Had we made the playoffs? Maybe had some success? DeBrincat likely stays making that trade not so bad. He brought in a solid 1st line talent to play on our 2nd line!! To do this he didn't give up any of our prospects or young roster players. That is how you build a team. Had Ottawa finsihed 13th - 15th overall that trade woyuld've been great, DeBrincat would've been a piece that moved things in the right direction. But coaching has absolutely killed this team. They played pond hockey for 4 years, now Martin has to come oin and coach out 4 years of pathetic coaching to get these young guys playing in a structured environment. The coaching was Dorion's biggest mistake because had he huired Martin 4 years ago instead of Smith, the team is wiinning and the moves that were made would be way more valuable. But we kept Smith for too long and this is the result.

I disagree in terms of what Ottawa needs... No team wins the cup without an elite puck moving defenseman. Chabot is the closest thing we have to a 2-way defenseman and I don't think he's quite good enough.
These teams do not win the cup without these players;
VEGAS; Pietrangelo & Theodore
TB; Hedman & Sergachev
COL; Makar, Toews
Blues; Pietrangelo...
Ottawa doesn't have a defenseman with this type of Pedigree. Chabot is decent but not quite there. Sanderson is solid defensively but offense doesn't come naturally to him. Karlsson gives the team that element, but would depend on the cost and the cap hit. Ottawa won't be giving up any 1st rounders, especially a top 10 pick in this draft... Plus likely doesn't take on the $10M left on his 3 years. But if Pittsburgh eats $3M? The cost was a 2nd rounder - and a solid prospect? (Boucher, Guenette, Ostapchuk)... I could see Ottawa chancing this. Personally I wouldn't.... But I can see Ottawa going that route especially with Alfy becoming more entrenched in the franchise again.

Ottawa laughs at that trade. Ottawa is looking for more players like Giroux.... We aren't going to give him up. Not to mention if Ottawa is a seller at the Trade deadline he would bring back Ottawa an absolute fortune. Ottawa might take Karlsson back but Pittsburgh will have to retain money, add a sweetener. Karlsson having a NMC limits the places he'd be willing to go.

DJ Smith was just one of his disasters. I'm totally getting it, don't worry</div></div>
DeBrincat wasn't a disaster, him leaving aftyer one season. If you're going to be a GM that win? You have to take chances. No GM plays it completely safe and wins. Murray made sense, he was the best goaltender on the market at the time, and was a 2-time Stanley Cup Champ. Stone & Duchene wanted to leave, and Duchene acquisition was to support a group that had gone to the Conference Finals the year before. Again, that's a move you make if you think it's a piece thqat gets you over the hump. DeMelo acquiring him was an issue? He was pretty good when he got here.
Most of these are only issues because the main issue (DJ Smith) made them issues.
