ok good to know, so if we took out halak and the pens 2nd, then the Canucks were the ones giving up a 3rd, would that be more fair?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabresforlife</b></div><div>I'd trade Montour for Virtanen I think both teams win but lets be truthful neither player is a game changer - Montour is the RD I want to trade first generally, it's not because he's worse out of Risto, Joki, Miller it's just that he's pretty good all around but outstanding at nothing while Risto may have terrible advanced stats but he's about the only physicality we have on the Sabres, Joki is young enough that the hope is he takes a step to being a solid first pair, and Miller has some very high level skills and you hope one day his play matches his skills.</div></div>
I can agree with this, Virtanen won’t come in and be a superstar either. But he will be physical and can put up some nice goal totals/drive play without too much help.

I don’t necessarily think Hughes needs a purely defensive partner. He’s really solid in his own zone and controls the puck so much that when he’s on the ice they aren’t defending very often.

Stetcher to Florida
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>He’s incredibly mediocre. Tanev is incredibly overrated and an expiring contract. Weegar has a better Corsi than either of them. He IS underrated and under team control.
They are looking to add a d man. Trading one away to acquire one accomplishes nothing, especially when it’s not even an upgrade.
They gave a pile of forwards that can and will be made available to add a big name d man.</div></div>
I get people knocking Tanev for being a bandaid, but when healthy he’s one of the better defensive d men in the league.every team could use him in their top four, especially when trying to make a playoff push

No deal in that case..</div></div>
The reason teams didn’t pick him up is because his cap hit is over 3 mil, this way they trade out a contract so it evens out the cap hit a lot

Realistic Trade Deadline Options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tomato43</b></div><div>Im not sure. I really enjoy the work of Harman Dayal who is the staff writer for TheAthletic who covers the Canucks. I respect his opinion a lot and his opinion is that he thinks the Canucks don't want to commit to Stecher as a main part of ther blue line because mainly because of his size and how much they think his value from an arbitrator will be compared to how much they think he is actually worth as well as him being able to just accept a qualifying offer and going UFA in a year. He is convinced that Green doesn't like Stecher and wants to have him traded. Knowing this he has speculated that the Canucks would have trouble getting a third round draft pick for him. I find that a little suspect since i would gladly give up a 3rd for him.</div></div>
Ya I think the same, he’s worth more to most teams than a 3rd. Are there any players who have started to fall out of favour that the Canucks could get back in return for him?

If you look at tanev you would notice that his deal is expiring next year. They would be acquiring him as a rental because they have a team that could compete for the cup right now.

Vancouver was taking Condon back as a cap dump so that Tampa could fit Tanev under the cap.
